Kingsland Red Posted 26 May, 2016 Share Posted 26 May, 2016 Following many missives to the club, including a strong comment on my season tickets return, I had a phone call today from a club representative regarding the PA system in the Kingsland (and Northam ?) I am not sure if he knew what a babel fish was, but the guy who phoned apologised on behalf of the club, and was clearly aware that those seated in the Kingsland (and Northam ?) have not been able to understand anything from Kenzie, Kelvin, MLT, Krueger, Lawrie and the 1976 team or anyone else communicating with the fans for some time, albeit "Justin Gladys" and his North Car Park Closure announcements seem to be loud and clear. I am advised the club are getting it sorted out as a "priority stadium project" ( Krueger speak) ready for next season. Here's hoping.
suewhistle Posted 26 May, 2016 Share Posted 26 May, 2016 I wasn't in my normal seat so ended in the Itchen wing towards the Chapel. I can confirm it was c**p there too. Fine down in the concourse, FWIW.
Deano6 Posted 26 May, 2016 Share Posted 26 May, 2016 I only get to a couple of games a year not I live abroad so it doesn't affect me, but I hope they do get it sorted as it seems to be a real bugbear for many on here. Good on Ralph if he's made it a priority.
JackanorySFC Posted 26 May, 2016 Share Posted 26 May, 2016 I sat in the middle block of the Kinngsland at the testimonial match, right on the halfway line. Normally I wouldn't give a **** about the PA system, simply not on my list of priorities tbh (my ST is in block 2 and my main priority is making sure we beat the queue at half time for a pint) but Jesus, it was seriously bad! Big £ to sit there too I imagine, couldn't make a word that Kelvin/ Matty/ Rickie/ Franny's fit daughter said. Pretty annoying actually as that's the main reason I went. simo Posted 26 May, 2016 Share Posted 26 May, 2016 (edited) Thats not the gist I got from their reply to my email last week!? "We are sorry to hear that your enjoyment of our home fixtures have been hindered by our PA system. We are fully aware of the problems a selection of our supporters face when it comes to hearing the PA system in certain areas of the stadium, however this is a huge project, the logistics of which need to be carefully planned and we have taken further steps towards achieving this. We look forward to updating fans as soon as we can!*As our knowledge is limited on this subject, this is a topic that will be under review come the end of the season within our Operations Team." I wouldn't hold your breath . Edited 26 May, 2016 by simo

I wouldn't hold your breath . I complained about the PA System in the Chapel when Rupes was chairman and he acknowledged this but advised the club had other priorities. I complained again about three years ago and had a reply similar to that above. I even suggested moving the speakers at roof level about 20 foot under the stands in the Chapel as an experiment so that the sound would be "trapped" more. This went unheaded too. It is amazing that the club claim inexperience ion these matters when we have a major sponsor who specialise in sound! Let us wait and see but it is about time this was sorted. John Boy Saint Posted 27 May, 2016 Share Posted 27 May, 2016 I would think that for security reasons the tannoy system is vital Pardon? As as has been said before you would have hoped with VEHO there might have been someone to have worked with on this. I expect this has been looked at, but when the stadium is empty with no background noise from 30k people gabbing away, then again as others have said, strange how Justin wishing Maude from Freemantle a happy birthday, and Ampshoires own North Car Park Darth Vader can be heard. angelman Posted 27 May, 2016 Share Posted 27 May, 2016 Center of Kingsland. Can hear half time scores and that is about it. The 1976 interviews were a complete joke and didn't even bother to try and listen
Alanh Posted 27 May, 2016 Share Posted 27 May, 2016 Based on the comments above, the fact that the half time scores, birthday announcements and North car park closures come through loud and clear suggests that the speaker element of the PA system works fine. Perhaps it's more to do with the wireless mic that is used pitchside, or the microphone technique of the person using it.

I wouldn't be so sure. I bought a set of Veho headphones a few years ago, and the sound quality on them was terrible. Wish I hadn't wasted my money. East Kent Saint Posted 27 May, 2016 Share Posted 27 May, 2016 As said before , the young lady is totally incomprehensible in Kingsland , the 1/2 time scores are just about heard OK . The security issue is obviously for stadium evacuation in case of fire , bomb etc. I seriously worry about evacuation times as we all have to go down the stairs to get to an exit to the concourse let alone get out the stadium . I think you would find if they asked you to evacuate the stadium for no obvious reason there would be a bit more gusto about the pace of deoarture, instead of the final whistle ambling that goes on, like stopping turning round and talking to your mate or stopping on the landings at the top of the stairs to exit the "bowl" to tell your mate that you will see them next week and probably give them a call when that conversation could be had on the concourse. The wireless mIke is part of it but if there is a Video on the large screen, that cannot be heard either. The club stopped showing the managers's pre-match information a few seasons ago. It was a joke when WGS was giving it. I can hear Justin Gladis giving the half times clearly so why everything else is so poor is confusing. S-Clarke Posted 27 May, 2016 Share Posted 27 May, 2016 The PA system is clearly not fit for purpose tbh. I've been to other grounds and although it's not loud, you can still make out what they're saying. You can strain to hear as much as you want at St Mary's, but you'll never work it out. There were times last season where i tried to lip read the half time player interviews or whatever else they had. The club did just send out a survey and I suggest everyone puts the PA bit down as an improvement to the 'match day experience' section.... The PA from Northam block 41 row S is completely inaudible and has been for at least 10 years. Weirdly at Kelvin's testimonial I sat in Northam Block 43 Row S and the PA was crystal clear - was it that the crowd was quiet, or do the away fans get a better PA than the home fans? Also, the best thing about the shatty PA is not hearing the bo110cks music after goals, so brace yourselves if they really do fix it...

Not to mention that people would evacuate along pitchside too which would really speed things up.

Absolutely fine at the Testimonial, and also completely clear in the men's loos at half time, so not the mic or mic technique.
