Saints Eye Giggs as their Next Manager.

We need to start this as a rumour. Really. It has everything needed to get traction and possibly cause various meltdowns in various corners of the internet.

No way we would consider Giggs. Would be a dreadful appointment. If we are going to start a rumour at least go for Steve Evans.

No, it's the response from a childish knob. I saw nothing to resemble gloating in your post and if RK does take the Everton role, you will have got a first rate manager. I just hope he remains at Saints. But if he goes, nobody died.

I agree that some of the responses were shall we say a little infantile, but I suggest that the Everton fan posting on this forum was fully aware of some of the responses he would provoke.

@richaskam: Unclear how close Koeman to Everton is , but hear contract discussions etc with #saintsfc did not impress him. Could develop quickly #efc

From the way Reed was speaking in that video, slightly reluctant to praise RK and the Guan comments, it could be that we aren't overly fussed about keeping Koeman (for some bizarre reason).

Could still be negotiating tactics. We can hope, but Saints would rather see him walk than be blackmailed.

There is still the possibility that he will refuse to extend and commit further, but reject Everton too, keeping options open for next year.

Everyday this drags on a little more of my respect for Ron gets erroded until I say f*ck it and I'm getting near that now.

Fortunately today I have nothing to do than refresh this page and trawl twitter looking for ITK and prospective up and coming coaches, I am officially sad.

So, to save me from trawling through the 20 pages of undoubted drivel, bed-wetting and abuse that have appeared on this thread since yesterday morning, can anybody offer any further evidence other than yesterday's tweet from the Dutch journo that this is happening?

FWIW, I think the club are in a win-win situation here. They obviously would like him to extend his contract, otherwise they would not have offered it. But if, as seems likely, they don't want him to enter the last year of his contract without committing to the future, then they will already have begun the process of identifying his successor. Then if he decides to accept Everton's offer, they can make it look like they didn't want to let him go and claim a nice windfall in compo from Everton, rather than sack him and replace him, which many people were expecting this summer anyway if he doesn't sign the extension.

We use the compo from Everton as a dangling carrot, alongside the promise of EL football next season, to entice one of our targets to join us; Koeman gets a massive pay rise to go to Everton... Everybody's happy.

I'm certainly not going to lose any sleep if he does decide to jump ship.

Its an easy negotiation tactic for him, I dont see why he necessarilly wants to go to Everton, its not a particularly big step up, and will take work to get them where they want to be. If for instance, he goes and fails, it will be an expensive mistake for his CV

Its also however, a convenient situation, he is able to push his agenda with us, which I hope he is, the majority of which I think will be centred around transfers and the future. It allows him to try for his favoured option and still have a backup plan.

It will however, IMO be an indictment of our own ambitions, and if we can meet them, which would be a shame considering we are so close to upsetting the top 4. However this is Saints, we have recovered before and will again.

A likely scenario. He has said, on several occasions, that he'd honour his contract.

Why? He's got an offer from us which he's considering, which is completely reasonable and normal. As of now, nothing else has happened.

Ronald Koeman's Everton talks not as advanced as Dutch reports claimed. #SaintsFC still confident he will extend his stay at St Mary's #EFC

(Liverpool/Everton reporter)

Interesting. He also says this just after:

@RichardBuxton_: More Dutch media claims, this time De Telegraaf reporting Everton hope to announce Koeman as manager within next 24 hours #EFC #SaintsFC

@Elko_B: According to De Telegraaf, Everton want to announce the Koeman appointment within the next 24 hours. https://t.co/xp7GB5IRHN

Nobody knows!

Wow this thread escalated quickly, nothings happening to miserable doom overnight. I guess that's what happens when you run out of biscuit puns. From what I can tell though nothing has really changed since 5pm yesterday other than more spurious tweets and debatable ITK's?

I call that as b0ll0cks. Other reports said that, if Saints agree, representatives would meet over the weekend.

De Telegraaf were making wild claims yesterday too.

There are 3 parties involved in this.

Southampton FC - silent apart from some time ago saying talks progressing well

Ronald Koeman - silent apart from answering a direct question pre holiday as to whether he will be here next season

Everton FC - shouting their mouth off saying they hope to sign him to a £5m - £7m package with £100m - £175m war chest (figures seemingly vary)

Anyone else saying anything, isn't a player, just a hanger on. They may well be right, but they can't all be right as they don't all have the same story. So really, as said, not enough information is available to know what is going on with any certainty so best take things with a pinch of salt until they actually materialise. And when it does, we can all get on with our lives just like we were doing last week.

Having just ploughed through the night's posts, my take on it now is this.

1. Everton have not met Ron or agent but have widely advertised that they're offering the £7m and £100+ for transfers.

2. They then assert that this will clearly be enough to get their man. This is interpreted, first on Twitter, then by their ITKs, then the media as it being a done deal. But they still haven't spoken to Ron or got permission from Saints to do so. So, contrary to ludicrous statements on the Everton forum, it's not a done deal - yet.

3. Meanwhile, Ron is contemplating Saints' contract extension offer. Good, but nowhere near £7m, and probably vagueness over transfer money. He's still not sure about the club's ambition. He also wants to be free next year if Barcelona, Arsenal and possibly others come calling.

4. Saints' position is probably that he extends or goes. They don't want him running down his contract, and there will be, as always, other fish in the sea. They, correctly, won't match silly money.

5. Ron is therefore weighing a better setup, Europa League, mainly established team, chance of CL at Saints against way more money, no EL, massive rebuilding job (which if successful would really make his name),potentially (perhaps) bigger things eventually at at Everton.

My guess is that, although the money will be a big attraction, the key factor in Ron's mind will be where he can most enhance his reputation to encourage the really big move. If he takes on Everton and turns them round (and he'd have all the cash he needs to do that) the sky will be the limit. There's plenty of room for improvement there, but a problem could be lack of patience for instant big success, and failure could dent his CV. Perversely, the potential for improvement at Saints is less. We're already EL and can't improve by many league places next season. If he stays, he has to at least get EL again and preferably CL to cement his reputation. A season where the EL pressure sees a drop in league form would hurt his chances.

I think there's still a chance he'll stay, but it's now slim. If he does go, we move on, without blaming the club. We employ ambitious managers. They will always put their career prospects first, it happens.

Reed said in the YT video, we want a stable summer, to build on what we have with minimal disruption and to focus more on who comes in player wise rather than who leaves.

Just frustrating that at Saints there is always so much change.

Just so I can be sure that I've got all the details, could you post up a list of everything that has happened this summer?

Maybe put it in a spreadsheet format so we can sort the copious amount of data more easily.

Thanks.

We have seen these type of rumours before and it normally ends up with the player or manager leaving. Unfortunately, I think he'll be off. :(

Why the sad face?

If he is off, then that means his heart wasn't with us and surely it is better to have someone who actually wants to be here, or is desperate to be here.

Perversely...I'm quite excited by the thought of us having a new manager hunt. It goes against the sane and rational decision to keep Koeman that I know I should be thinking. But then I'm the sort of person who will move my house furniture around every 6 months just to have a room feel and look different. A new manager means a new managers favourite player buddies, and the rise and fall of other dressing room characters. Players have to push themselves to earn their place with the new boss. There's also the chance of more exciting attacking football. I appreciate Ron's defensive tactical nous (especially looking at Woy's complete lack of it) but I preferred Pochettinos more attacking edged play from a spectator point of view.

Breaking news:

SSN understand in last few minutes Everton have held talks with RK about new ground and transfer funds and must now agree compensation with Saints thought to be around 3 Million :(

Why is their new ground relevant to Koeman? He won't be there if/when that is complete.

Staying with Everton, and more on the reports in theDaily Mirror this morning that Southampton boss Ronald Koeman could be tempted to join Everton by a £7m-a-year salary.

Unclear how close Ronald Koeman to Everton is, but I hear contract discussions etc with Southampton did not impress him. This could develop quickly.
