Saint Charlie Posted 2 June, 2016 Share Posted 2 June, 2016 @bigadamsport: For those #saintsfc fans asking, I have nothing concrete on Koeman - I have tried club & we are trying to speak to agent. But..1/2 @bigadamsport: 2/2..but only way things could change after Koeman was adamant he would see contract out is if he & board have not agreed transfer strategy No denials...no confirmations. Doesn't sound great though. Will be such a blow for us if true. Especially to a midtable team.
angelman Posted 2 June, 2016 Share Posted 2 June, 2016 It is indeed complex but you've also missed plenty of other parts of the complexity - you focus entirely on the "board showing ambition/money where mouth is" line of argument which is quite a narrow view. He might just want to do something different at the end of three years. One can sense the aching desperation for a few on this forum to start wailing and whining about lack of ambition when he goes but sometimes not everything is about you. It might just be about him. He's lived in England for two years, maybe three is enough. Maybe he is a contractual purist and just wants to be free next summer come what may. Maybe he just wants to sit tight and be available when the Dutch job comes up. Maybe he backs himself to be a Champions League level elite manager and wants to free to take that on. Maybe he wants a crack at Serie A. Maybe he wants six months off next year. There's a heck of a lot of complexity that expands far and wide beyond Les Reed saying you have forty or fifty million in the transfer fund. That, clearly is not the only dynamic. What does this word "ambition" mean? Seemingly it is about how much money the club will spend and that is it. If so, then football really is in a sad state. Bewildered Posted 2 June, 2016 Share Posted 2 June, 2016 I wonder if we will look to Laudrup for a Danish option? Laudrup would be a huge gamble IMO, the last months of his stay at Swansea suggest he crumbles if things aren't going well. trousers Posted 2 June, 2016 Share Posted 2 June, 2016 Outside of the Europa League spots and we attracted a manager of Koeman's calibre. With European football, some of the very best managers in the world would be knocking on our door. If he does go, we'll get someone in that's better and the club will continue to grow. If Koeman doesn't want to be a part of that then it is his loss, not ours. I hope Koeman stays but the future is bright whatever happens. Saint Charlie Posted 2 June, 2016 Share Posted 2 June, 2016 This There is only so many times you can keep getting new people in though and keep improving. Plus there is the impact on players, some of whom signed new contracts presumably with Koeman as their Manager next season. Also players like Davis and Fonte who commented how frustrating it was when MP left. Will some of them start doubting the club again? The likes of VVD, Bertrand, Forster, Long who signed for Koeman might be disillusioned. Backroom staff disruption too. Lots of unecessary change IMO and saying we will just keep improving is an easy soundbite. Eventually it will go the other way. Bigger question for me is that it is Everton. What did Reed and cringe Krueger say to Koeman which made him feel Everton are a good step for him. Arsenal yes, Barcelona yes but we would be gutted if Van Dijk or Bertrand left us for Everton. Dr. Kucho Posted 2 June, 2016 Share Posted 2 June, 2016 Have been going through the Dutch media and all are quoting the same guy, Tim de Wit. Been having a quick look into Rob Jansen, Koemans agent. He seems to represent a whole host of players, so could he be in Liverpool for someone else. Jansen did confirm to Fox Sports in Holland last week that he was in negotiations with us for a new contract. So could this all be a trick form him to get us to pay Koeman more? I am surprised it was broken by the Dutch media, would have thought that the tabloids would have broken this story with all their dodgy connections. Will keep my eyes on the Dutch media today (this was my 3rd post, so any updates will come tomorrow)

Ashby Saint Posted 2 June, 2016 Share Posted 2 June, 2016 FWIW My take is this. Koeman wants to honour contract, but not extend it. May be he does want the Arsenal job next Summer (and who would blame him). Saints do not want the speculation affecting the team and want him to sign or go. He may well go, but that will be because the club do not want him for just next season.

Yorkshire Saint Posted 2 June, 2016 Share Posted 2 June, 2016 I think what is most frustrating as a fan is the smoke and mirrors by both the club and individuals albeit Mopo Lallana Clyne possibly RK ... If reed is playing these negotiations out through the Media aka we are in a good place with negotiations etc etc he is either incredibly bold and taking us all for suckers or incredibly nieve ! Equally I ask myself what would I do .. And with a business head it is probably I would do exactly what Reed has done and received inflated amounts of cash on over rated nonsense ... Some would say the only person to have gained greater success since leaving saints recently is MoPo ...
Suhari Posted 2 June, 2016 Share Posted 2 June, 2016 From the Les Reed video........the most recent facts we've been passed. Taking the view that these are the facts, and that Les wasn't bending the truth or knowingly misleading us. Summary... Ronald Koeman's Future - Ronald buys into the club's culture and values - We aren't pulling in different directions - Ronald ticked all the boxes - we're building the team around him and cooperating with him in terms of recruitment - we've found someone who buys into us and is a good coach and tactician - we want to play good football and do all of the things that Ronald wants, there's a meeting of minds - he's done a great job and will continue to do so - we're always planning for the future - we're now at a point of discussing the detail of a new contract for Ronald - agents and lawyers are now involved - everything's going very positively *END* There was also the newspaper article where talks were 'pleasant'. Until I see something factual from a credible source then for me the sky is still where it should be.
