Sour Mash Posted 28 May, 2016 Share Posted 28 May, 2016 Great news, hopefully an expansion next summer. Always maintained that if tickets were reduced I think we could easily fill 40k per week maybe even 45k for some games. Now it looks like we could get 35k minimum at these prices. Obviously good form helps and finishing 8th 7th and 6th in consecutive seasons gets more plastics out of the woodwork I'd like to see the ground expanded, but can't think of many/any that have expanded significantly while being in a comparable situation to us currently. We haven't got big waiting lists for season tickets or anything like that.
Nordic Saint Posted 28 May, 2016 Author Share Posted 28 May, 2016 There aren't many clubs with season tickets as expensive as ours. The club sets the price to just fill the ground, and you could argue they've got their pricing exactly right as we have averaged more than 30,000 in all of our top flight seasons at St Mary's. It's not just about the money though, is it? If it were, we'd only need a capacity of 100 as long as we filled it with billionaires. Football is tribal and the big tribes ultimately prevail. It's all very well trying to stay a small, non-threatening tribe which never grows, but the trouble is, if we do that, some ambitious, expansionist tribe will one day take over our territory. It's what happened to us in the 1920s when Portsmouth built a much bigger stadium, while we stood still. We suffered from that lack of ambition for the next 50 years. angelman Posted 28 May, 2016 Share Posted 28 May, 2016 How do you increase the size of your "tribe"? Make U11 season tickets in the family bit £50, which is what they are. That's £2.63 a game which to me is ****ing good value for money for a nipper. No idea how many tickets at that price are available though. U11 behind the goals is £9 a game and in the wings a little bit less per game. Not sure you can complain about that. Even the non-premium Kinglsnad/Itchen seats work out at less than £12 per game. Our season tickets are roughly the same as others, can't think of anyone that is significantly cheaper that is expanding. And it's our cheapest seats, for the cheapest games that sell slowest anyway.
