Rivals/Other Prem clubs transfer thread

Most premiership clubs have a decent transfer budget each summer and will spend the money they receive from transfers (as a minimum) Palace got £25m for Bolasie & £10m for Gayle, they probably had £20m to spend before selling and have bought Townsend (13m) Tomkins (10m) and Mandanda (free)

So as it stands, Palace have a NET spend as well?

ffs Palace have sold their soul to a new investor as have Everton that is where their new money is coming from !!!!

Transfer fees are only part of a deal , wages are now a higher percentage of a clubs turnover than ever before , why don't you get that ?

If you want Saints to go down the -10 points route again then buy 6 £50 M players on £250K a WEEK and watch the club in free fall while the same said players continue to have first dibs on their £250K a week !!!!!

I wonder how much of this is the constant hype of PL and people being bombarded with ManU/C, Liverpool, Chelsea etc spending big and getting big expensive squads and wanting that, while not realising that we should actually be looking more at the likes of WBA, Stoke etc.

Agreed. I'm getting sick of the media, especially Sky, equating the importance of the Premier with the obscene amount of money being thrown around.

I would love to see streaming destroy the Sky/BT empires

PL streams that it gives to other broadcasters, hence how you can watch any PL game at 3pm on a Saturday
I dont watch streaming and so it is all new to me, but who provides the cameras and editing etc, or is it just like someone holding their telephone up?

Yep - on Monday Night Football they were discussing this "could be the best season ever". What they mean is, lots of the big clubs look strong again. Hard to see how last season could be improved with Leicester winning the league, Spurs (even though I hate them) in the top 4 and Saints and West Ham in the Europa spots.

One of the things that's making it so interesting for me is the amount of new managers at the 'Top' clubs...... have Utd got the 'Special One' or the guy from last season? Will Conte and Pep be able to do it on a rainy night at Stoke (cliche I know, but they're not guaranteed success).....the teams with momentum from last season might still surprise. Klopp (sadly) is a decent manager, ....ditto Poch, who no-one seems to be mentioning; but top 4 for Spurs wouldn't surprise me. WHam could be an outside bet for a top 5/6.

Although I'm probably wrong and it'll be a 3 way fight for the title, with Liverpool or Arse getting 4th. Which would be dull.

It's proper cameras like any televised match game, as it is sold around the world. PL logo on the games. Who does the televising of it I have no idea. I imagine that there is a company specialising in it, and Sky, BT, ITV, BBC etc etc etc all use them. Maybe someone knows!

The whole world gets to see every Premier League game live. It's only in England you don't.

Why is it impossible to have a conversation on here? Within a couple of posts on every thread it's just ridiculous extremes. Apparently it's sell players and spend nothing or spend so much we go bankrupt. Nothing in-between.

This, ask the club to spend money we have recouped in sales and suddenly you get accused of wanting to bankrupt the club.

People always make out how amazing the big clubs are. They always sign more players but often get it wrong. You'd think City will be better, but teams will love to beat Guardiola, depends how quick he learns and how distracted they are by the CL. Who knows how their defence will hold out and if the new keeper will do alright. I can still see them losing a fair few away games.

Utd will do well, not in the CL, Mourinho with a point to prove but still a few weak spots in the team. Arsenal, well will they ever get it together? Still beatable. Chelsea look stronger but their defence is old and pretty dodgy, can't see them winning it.

Spurs are slightly better than last season on paper, but will the blow of messing it up last season hurt them? I don't think they'll do as well.

Liverpool still have a pathetic defence. Lot of attacking talent but they'll lose plenty of games.

It'll be exciting as so hard to predict who'll win it, but don't think anyone should be fearing the big teams. Yes Utd can spend 89m on a midfielder, yet he's not as good as the ones they used to produce for free.

I have said on another thread somewhere that I wouldn't be surprised if we saw one or two unfancied teams being amongst the pack and one or two big names struggling again, for the reasons you have listed. I doubt it will be as mixed up as last season, but what I really meant by "hard to see how it could be improved" was in response to presenter & pundit views that the big teams looking strong equates to it being an exciting season, whereas actually the best seasons are the ones like last year.

I suppose part of their job is to big up the season ahead - not sure Sky would be happy with a presenter who said "after last season, let's face it, this one is going to be a wash out. And you mugs at home have still shelled out for our ridiculously priced sport subscription package."

NBC Sports or BeIn Sports usually are the network the streams use
again, they I assume are the agents who rent off of the provider. Do Sky etc put their own equipment in or is it an agency connected to the PL who then supply it all? The point being if Sky and BT pull out and if theyprovide the cameras etc there wont be any stuff to stream.

Yeah, but what if we can't spend the money we have recouped in sales, as it's earmarked to pay off debt? just putting that out there. (not that i know)

Exactly. That shareholder debt does have to be reduced. So it's quite possible (or maybe a proportion of TV money has been earmarked for that).

WEST BROM INTERESTED IN SLIMANI

Sky sources are telling us there is interest from West Brom in Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani.

We're told the clubs are not far apart in their valuations of the player.

West Brom are deciding whether to proceed given Slimani would miss a month in the New Year to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations.

SCHLUPP ‘DEEPLY UNHAPPY’

Sky sources are telling us that the Leicester winger Jeff Schlupp is “deeply unhappy” at his club’s refusal to allow him to talk to West Brom, who have seen two bids for the player – the latest worth £12million - rejected by the Premier League champions.

The 23-year-old was told recently by manager Claudio Ranieri that he could not guarantee him first team football, and that he would be better off looking for a new club if he wanted to play regularly.

Leicester seemed ready to negotiate with West Brom when they made their latest bid last Friday. Schlupp was even removed from the matchday squad for Saturday’s Premier League opener at Hull with expectation that the deal would go through on Monday.

It appears now that Leicester have taken a different view by turning down West Brom’s offer and insisting that Schlupp sees out the remaining three years of his contract.

The Ghana international has been at Leicester since signing youth forms in 2005. He featured in 23 games for the club last season.

Not an extreme do not spend but live within one's means , a big signing is OK ! plus the club may have tried to make the big signing but have been rebuffed .

We do not know yet but to say we could spend millions just because clubs with new money can is mistaken !

Was the club rebuffed or did they not offer enough? Wasn't the comment our last bid was rejected..sounds like the club were willing to sell but we weren't willing to pay enough.

This still blows my mind.

in America, NBCSN televises 3 to 4 matches on Saturday, 2 matches on Sunday and the Monday matches when they occur. The remaining matches are streamed live on their virus free website. No dodgy Russian streaming sites.

Jesus mate you really have turned into just a happy clapper to the board haven't you? With the sky money on top of that I think this is laughable.

The premier league themselves film the game and the broadcasters be it Sky/BT/NBC put their branding on that feed.

West Ham's Andre Ayew out for 4 months.

Yeah, just saw that. He's also got the AfCON in January, and it's apparentley at 'least' 4 months - Some west ham fans aren't expecting to see him again this season.

This will have a bit of a knock on effect......WHU will not let Sakho go now, so WBA won't get him. so Berahino stays there...

West Brom pulled out of that week or so ago I thought? Think they're trying for Slimani or Benteke - won't see Berahino leave until replacement in.

Though I'm sure he'll (finally) go to Stoke.

Fair play to Leicester shown bags of ambition this summer. Jumped from level 4 to level 3 allowing them to hold onto 95% of a league winning side. Kudos

Like Forster, VvD, Long and Tadic signing long term deals? Are we level 3 yet because of that?

Naah, also remember Leicester are paying Vardy and Mahrez a 100k a week I think.

My bet is our highest is VVD/Forster at around £70k
