Truth be told though, I would have quiet liked them to come up. Same as Bompey, a nice bit of pseudo-rivalry in the absence of our fishy friends.

Glad they are not coming up. They have the weirdest mongrel support going. Full of corporates who rocked up post the Amex and everyone else supports Chelsea or Liverpool.

I am conflicted. I like Brighton as a place to go and watch football and have a beer and suchlike, but I don't ever want them to get in the Premier League, the bunch of turds.

I really wanted to them to come up. Good club, great city, good bit of rivalry and another southern team to further dismember the northern/London monopoly.

Still, good to see Sheffield Wednesday back in the big time potentially. Always nice to see a club get back to the top after being on the brink

Much rather Sheffield Wednesday come up than Hull.

Don't really mind either, but Sheffield is closer and has some great pubs.

Mixed feelings about Brighton. Another few south coast Premier derbies would gave been fun and emphasised the pitiful state of the fishy lot, and it would be a new ground for me. but I find their fans a strange bunch and a touch arrogant.

They were robbed last night. Once they were one up I thought they'd do it but a fluke goal, aided by a push missed by the officials, destroyed their momentum.

Do we have a good bit of rivalry with Brighton? It's only the promotion season I think I ever gave them a second thought, and that was mainly because we were trying to get promoted too, could have been anyone really.

I'm pleased they didn't make it. I find Brighton to be a rather self-satisfied place, full of media types, it would be another media w***fest if they get promotion. London-by-the-sea so no thanks. Plus I'm surrounded by Seagulls fans so really don't want the rivalry.

I seem to recall both the games the season after in the Championship were feisty affairs with red cards being shown in fair numbers as both sides hadn't quite got over the previous season.

After that I think both sides just forgot about each other. Also I think it was more the teams respective mangers the two sets of fans didn't like .....I still think Gus is a knob even now.

I often wonder what happens to banners like that after they're finished. That banner was relevant for literally one day

At least Brighton wouldn't be as annoying as the Bournemouth fans. Brighton have their own rivalry with Palace so that would keep them occupied.

Perhaps next season will be our year when we finally get to play the skates in the cup.

Hard on Brighton with them finishing 15 points above Sheffield.

I realise that the playoffs maintain interest right to the end of the season but it's unfair that Brighton's points total compared with Sheffield's gives them no advantage.

Maybe just have one leg with the team with the most points playing at home.

Sorry to disagree, but Brighton know the rules at the beginning of the season, as do all the clubs. Finish top 2 - automatic promotion, otherwise it's play-offs. Brighton needed to beat Middlesbrough to avoid this but they failed.

What happens if 3rd to 6th place are only separated by a couple of points and goal difference? A separate rule?

Plus if Brighton had such a points difference one would expect them to beat Sheff over 2 legs. They failed again.

Would have liked them to come up, if only to really annoy the skates.

Other than that they are just another club like Norwich - everyone knows they are there but don't really care enough to put effort into a proper rivalry
