South City Si Posted 13 May, 2016 Share Posted 13 May, 2016 I agree that the idea of a platform /station sounds convenient / attractive to some ......even a bit .....romantic. Wasn't it Hull's Boothberry Park ground that had a platform on one side of the stadium? The only drawback at SMS is that it might only be used 20-odd times a season. Yes would only be used a few times a year for football but then they want to 'improve' area so could use SMS for concerts and events if they expand or build a venue near it. Looking at the city plans they wanted to turn the aggregates wharf into 'Saints Square'. I think the council own a lot of the land around SMS, also was talk of an indoor ski slope thing where the dump was.

Sour Mash Posted 13 May, 2016 Share Posted 13 May, 2016 (edited) quicker exit times might also persuade some of the usual early leaves to stay until the end! The entire access to the stadium needs improving.....takes ages to get out and away, no railway station nearby, no decent parking nearby, driving into and out of the city on match days is a fookin nightmare You've got to be on a wind up? How many Premier League grounds have a mainline station as close to them as St Marys? Not including St Denys, Bitterne and Woolston in walking distance. No way will a new station be built near St Marys, 100%. All that is needed, and should be quite easy, is to build another footbridge over the railway, south of the current one to take a load of people from the Chapel and southern sections of the Itchen and Chapel. No real incentive for Network Rail, the council or even the club to shell out best part of £750k for it though. As others have stated, surprised, that both the ground itself and the footbridge gets Health and Safety sign off. The only way it might make sense would be if the line could be connected to a Park and Ride somewhere near Eastleigh, such as in the old railway works, perhaps. Shuttle services could link to the Central station at non match days. Otherwise since it doesn't link directly with Central Station there wouldn't be much point. Toomer Posted 13 May, 2016 Share Posted 13 May, 2016 (edited) Compulsory singing lessons for the Chapel end. Some of us older supporters that sit in the Chapel were stood on The Milton when there was a much better range of songs (some not very PC ) not just OWTS anti Pompey songs and player name chants. But the PA is poor and needs upgrading also get rid of the tweets on the screen some are going worthy. Edited 13 May, 2016 by Toomer
doggface Posted 13 May, 2016 Share Posted 13 May, 2016 I was always in the cautious camp to keep the capacity 32k because of the cost vs demand. However with the finances in the PL as they are now and with our ownership, I think the club would be foolish not to up the capacity to 40-45k by adding a tier on Kingsland and Northam. Our competitors are moving on and we cannot afford to be left behind. They could then push the away fans further to the right in the Northam and let them take part of the 2nd tier too. Think the Etihad on a smaller scale. Would also help improve the atmosphere.

alehouseboys Posted 13 May, 2016 Share Posted 13 May, 2016 The acoustics, they're sh*te. Might improve the PA in the process. Other than that, safe standing. And I don't know why some bang on about another tier over the Northam thinking it would improve the atmosphere for home fans there, I think it would probably kill it. Saints 'singers' would just split themselves over the upper and lower and end up singing different songs and lessen the effect. If another tier goes anywhere it has to go over the Kingsland, longer, allowing more seats on capacity.
eurosaint Posted 13 May, 2016 Share Posted 13 May, 2016 Decent wiFi Top priority IMO, it's ridiculous in this day and age that we struggle to even follow other scores during the match ! Not beyond the wit of man to install a free Wifi system particularly as they have it in places like Old Trafford already, I believe !

Southampton Parkway has loads of parking these days and it's a fiver all day on a Saturday. The line is already set up to go straight through to SMS. Simples. Would, make getting out of town easy, especially for away fans.

angelman Posted 13 May, 2016 Share Posted 13 May, 2016 The footbridge is a pain. Agree. Also getting out of the stadium from high up the stands is a pain in the backside. Would be good to have another exit at the top of the stand straight out the back of the stadium to ground level.

John Boy Saint Posted 13 May, 2016 Share Posted 13 May, 2016 PA is top of the list, although I was amazed at how bad it was at WHL last Sunday, when that brave little nipper came onto the pitch with the bladed legs you really had to strain to hear what was being said about him. A paint job of the concourse would be nice, there are times in the dead of winter when it feels pretty depressing down there because it's so drab. Stud mark of doom Posted 13 May, 2016 Share Posted 13 May, 2016 Better beer I went to see a harlequins match a couple of months ago - could believe the choice and quality of ale at the ground. If they can do it...
