If one improvement could be made to the ground

could we please please have a new PA System, the current one is more than useless and an embarrassment, you can never hear anything in the Northam and think it is like this for most of the ground. The only good place to hear the tannoy is in the loos.

I'm a little in love with Kenzie but the one improvement, seriously, would be to put the away supporters in the Chapel...heard all the arguments but it would improve the home support atmosphere no end (and it's not bad as it is before we go down that one!).

Oh really ? I thought the only place it couldnt be heard properly was the Kingsland and because the majority were ok with it we had to put up with it !

In that case yes please sort it out finally, its great having Le Tiss and ex players on the pitch but if you have to rush down to the loo to hear what they are saying its bloody ridiculous.

I've been moaning about the poor p.a. system since SMS opened. I emailed Rupert about it and always mention it in every survey the club carries out. Obviously no one at the club is listening either. The actual p.a. Announcer, Justin Gladdis seems to be more audible but any pitch side announcements are a complete waste of time. Very frustrating.

I think there in lies the issue, the guy on the PA is fairly audible, as is the voice of doom about the North Car park being closed etc but the pitch side one is abysmal, and that hasnt always been the case, I could always here Mike Osman

I would copy where LCFC put their away fans seeing as they have the same setup. They use the wings rather than behind the goal. Palace cup game was a complete joke.

We should definitely look to add many more seats (15k great but definitely extend the Kingsland upwards by as much as possible) and add more capacity to the footbridge but other than that, finding a solution to us needing a full end of loud fans, the frankly s£$t PA system (it would surprise people how much this would probably cost though) and also more sales points at half time for food and drinks would be my main things to invest some time, thought and money in.

Safe standing area.

This....I often sit/stand in Northam row G which is right on the border between where the stewards get stroppy if you don't sit down and where they don't bother, presumably for fear of starting a riot.

I moved to the itchen for exactly that reason. Interesting that Celtic have had approval to implement safe standing

But I know most of the stewards anyway. haha.

if there are any on here, love to know who you are....usernames etc..etc..be quite funny.

Especially if it was some of my nemesis on here accusing me of being "GlasgowSaints" or any of the others....I'd frikking wet myself haha

I can't think of a single thing that's worth hearing from the stadium announcers.

One thing that does need changing - getting out and away from the ground is a bit of a joke, can't think of any other grounds where it takes so long.

Safe standing but it seems in the corner of Northam Stand/ Kingsland people manage to stand anyway so I'd say add 8,000 seats to make 40k stadium just to increase the atmosphere and create cheaper seating for people who can't afford to go every week if anything else but the club probably won't see it as cost effective and there's always the risk of having plenty of empty seats on view.

It really is amazing how long it takes to get out of the ground if you sit near the back. You'd think there would need to be some sort of maximum evacuation time required in case of some sort of safety incident. I can't see how we possibly comply to that.

Reasonable request is new presenter PA. Its painful. Also stop playing/turn down music when the players are on the pitch directly before kick off so we can feel the atmosphere and get it going.

Moving away fans would be great but as we know not likely to happen whilst we are at SMS.

The PA, surely? I kinda wanted to hear what Lambert was saying the other week, but it was just mumbled echo. Not even worth trying to hear it. I can also never hear the score announcements, which is kind of annoying, given that checking the phone for updates is a no-go.

So yeah, there must be a way they can throw money at that to improve it. Anything would be an improvement I'd have thought.

quicker exit times might also persuade some of the usual early leaves to stay until the end!

The entire access to the stadium needs improving.....takes ages to get out and away, no railway station nearby, no decent parking nearby, driving into and out of the city on match days is a fookin nightmare

There's no point in a station without trains. Who would run them and where would they go?

You obviously don't leave the ground via the footbridge, Whitey. South West, Southern and Great Western trains all slow down there already on the line running from Bournemouth to Brighton, so stopping there on match days would be no problem, and all points in the country would be accessible from there. A lot of fans travelling to the stadium watch the train pass the stadium and then have to walk back to it from Southampton Central. I've heard a rumour that the council would require the football club to foot the bill for a small station there before they'll grant permission for any stadium expansion. That is just an internet rumour though.

Ladysaint is right. The tannoy system is rubbish. Surely it wouldn't be too difficult to sort that out.

i believe the King Power Stadium was built using the plans for St Mary's. I guess that must have saved Leicester a bit. There are media reports that Leicester are considering building a 2nd tier on their East Stand ( the copy of the Kingsland) to take their capacity up to 42,000. If they do, maybe we can use the same plans.

...perhaps the presenters need a bit of microphone training.

It can help if people are taught to hold the mic. properly, and no amount of enthusiasm can replace a good speaking manner and a proper " speech delivery ".........

If it's purely an equipment problem, then surely we'll have a bit of spare cash to replace it after " the dead wood " is off the books.

Like everybody else I have at times been caught in the crush at the bridge but there is no room for a station north of the bridge, and that would still be the other side of the bottleneck. There could be a platform squeezed in behind the bike sheds but that would require trains to drive up the spur and then reverse back onto the main lines and then possibly change direction again, none of it ideal. I am aware that trains regularly use the docks spur for car freight and that they often stack up there for the cleaning sheds.

The real answer is to improve the bridge and I did read recently that plans are underfoot to 'widen' the existing bridge route by installing a new bridge alongside the current one.

I agree that the idea of a platform /station sounds convenient / attractive to some ......even a bit .....romantic.

Wasn't it Hull's Boothberry Park ground that had a platform on one side of the stadium?

The only drawback at SMS is that it might only be used 20-odd times a season.

You mean along William St/Milbank..that road past Spartans Gym?..

That's a flipping clusterf*ck in and of itself round there.

Especially seeing as you CAN'T turn left at the junction at the Prince's pub.

You can only turn right or continue straight ahead.

Why they don't allow traffic to turn left there is beyond me, because that causes a right bank up all along that road.

My Dad has an office on that road and he gets people parking on his property there on matchdays, but he lets it slide as people are normally pretty polite about it and don't take the p*ss.

so he doesn't mind.

The powers that be will not let us move the away fans so lets just water down their support in that area of the stadium. Expand the northam with another tier by between 3k and 5k all these extra seats can be taken by saints fans. Split the away fans over the two levels (like they do at man city), we would then end up with about 2/3rds saints and 1/3rd away fans in the northam. Would change with cup games but still an advantage for league etc.

I thought that was a bit of an odd set-up...their away fans area is in the same place as ours essentially but there are kids and families where the 'Northam' is with all their noise coming from the 'Itchen' part. Much as I hate them those artificial clapper things made a lot of noise too....
