The9 Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 (edited) Liverpool need 2 goals in 2 minutes or a Saints win on Sunday all but guarantees us Europa League. Edited 11 May, 2016 by The9

Shroppie Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 1 1. Shouldn't make any difference Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
shurlock Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 1 1. Shouldn't make any difference Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk It's far from irrelevant. Would have meant that a draw on Sunday might have been sufficient to finish above the scousers and get at least 7th.
James Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Liverpool need 2 goals in 2 minutes or a Saints win on Sunday guarantees us Europa League. Not if Palace win the cup...
The9 Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 (edited) Awesome, it's (nearly) in our hands. Edited 11 May, 2016 by The9
angelman Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 I'm OK with that. It's in our hands to finish above them. So be it. Obv not as good as a Chelsea win, but at the start of the game, would have settled for a draw.
Saint Charlie Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Good result. If we both draw and potentially if they draw and we lose narrowly then we still finish above them.
St Lej Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 FFS, knew a defeat for them would have been too much to be true.
Nordic Saint Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Finishing 6th would be nice, but even if we finish 6th or 7th, we'll need Man Utd to win the FA Cup. Finish 6th and Man Utd win, then we qualify directly for the group stages. Not if we finish above Man Utd. 5th is looking distinctly possible as both Man Utd and Palace will rest players before the cup final and West Ham should struggle to do better than draw away to West Brom. In fact, we could finish just 2 points off a Champions League place.
Jimmy_D Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 So, win on Sunday, and we finish above Liverpool for the very first time. The last team we need to tick off the list.

Makes a slight difference, but realistically the starting point on Sunday is a win for us. Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
The9 Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Not if Palace win the cup... Yeah, well, that IF Man U and West Ham both win as well.
Donatello Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Liverpool need 2 goals in 2 minutes or a Saints win on Sunday guarantees us Europa League. Why do you keep saying this? :S
Lighthouse Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Surely they will rest players at Stoke on Sunday?! They're 8th, knowing even a win could be meaningless, meanwhile a win 3 days later would guarantee them Champions League football.
Pamplemousse Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Not if we finish above Man Utd. 5th is looking distinctly possible as both Man Utd and Palace will rest players before the cup final and West Ham should struggle to do better than draw away to West Brom. In fact, we could finish just 2 points off a Champions League place. I'm assuming they will finish in 5th. Bournemouth at home should be a comfortable home win.
CB Fry Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 One point better off than Liverpool with one game to go ain't half bad. I don't think we will finish sixth but expect us to secure seventh now. All we can do is win and I think we will.
Pamplemousse Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Man Utd v Bournemouth, Swansea v Man City and Stoke v West Ham live on Sky Sports
Saint IQ Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Liverpool need 2 goals in 2 minutes or a Saints win on Sunday guarantees us Europa League. Even if Palace won the cup?
The9 Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 How? Ok, there is a slight chance it isn't. If we beat Palace... we need either a Man U defeat at home to Bournemouth or West Ham not to beat Stoke, or Man U to beat Palace in the Cup Final.
trousers Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 we could finish just 2 points off a Champions League place. That would be fantastic and frustrating in equal measures
markr27 Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 The West Ham love in continues - its game is live on Sunday on Sky Sports.
St Lej Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 To be fair, if we can't beat a Palace side who will no doubt be much changed and with one eye on the FA cup final, then we'd have no one to blame but ourselves, so you've gotta be happy with things as they stand, heading to Sunday.
The9 Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 FFS, knew a defeat for them would have been too much to be true. Doesn't make any difference to us unless we're planning on losing and Liverpool win on the weekend anyway.
Lighthouse Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 The West Ham love in continues - its game is live on Sunday on Sky Sports. Show some respect, this is the last time the West Ham team bus will ever depart from the Boleyn ground.
Saint_Ash Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 I think we'll finish 6th, west ham Will draw away with stoke and we'll win. We'll go above them on goal difference.
Saints foreva Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Let's just make sure we do the busy so that if the opportunity arises we're there to take full advantage. I don't really fancy United to win the cup after that dog**** they put on last night.
Roger Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Surely they will rest players at Stoke on Sunday?! They're 8th, knowing even a win could be meaningless, meanwhile a win 3 days later would guarantee them Champions League football. Pay attention. West Ham are at Stoke not Liverpool. They are at west brom. What's wrong with people that's a great night for us. It's in our own hands whether we finish 7th or not and then if we win we need West Ham to not win at Stoke or Utd to beat palace in cup final to get in in 7th. Much better chance after that result. Cheer up.
The9 Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Stoke v West Ham live is probably the main match that matters in this scenario, more likely to be close fought than the others.
shurlock Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Doesn't make any difference to us unless we're planning on losing and Liverpool win on the weekend anyway. Wrong. A loss tonight would have meant a draw against palace would have been sufficient to finish ahead of Liverpool (barring them beating WBA by three goals).
markr27 Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Just get the 3-points and see what we win! Jackpot (5th), Millionaire Raffle (6th) or a lucky dip (7th)
Saint Charlie Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Wrong. A loss tonight would have meant a draw against palace would have been sufficient to finish ahead of Liverpool (barring them beating WBA by three goals). Yeah it clearly makes a difference if we don't beat Palace. But our players, at home with a fully fit squad, must be confident. I fully expect WH to beat Stoke but if in January anyone had said we would need United to beat Palace for European footy we would have bitten their hand off, so if that happens it has to be great.
Shroppie Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Show some respect, this is the last time the West Ham team bus will ever depart from the Boleyn ground. At least they've got a reasonably intact team bus. Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
Roger Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Wrong. A loss tonight would have meant a draw against palace would have been sufficient to finish ahead of Liverpool (barring them beating WBA by three goals). Jesus you are miserable aren't you. That was a fab result tonight. We will win Sunday anyway and I think there's a good chance of Stoke not losing to West Ham. Even then we still have a chance with Utd. I'd have bitten ur hand off for that result tonight before game.

S-Clarke Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 Great result, we just wanted them to drop points, wasn't bothered about them losing or drawing. 7th is in our hands.
Saint Charlie Posted 11 May, 2016 Posted 11 May, 2016 I can't believe people aren't over the moon with that result tonight mate. They are. But that Benteke goal still makes a difference.
