Lighthouse Posted 9 May, 2016 Share Posted 9 May, 2016 Something which occurred to me about yesterday's game was how typically Poch it was, with regards to his time in charge at St Mary's. Bags of possession, take the lead and then cock it up. Indeed, Spurs have thrown away a lead in their last 3 games. Anyway, looking at our season we've only thrown away a lead on 3 occasions and managed to pull something back on 8 occasions. The points difference is a bit skewed as you only get 1 point if you score an equaliser but lose 2 if you concede one. A definite improvement from Koeman it would seem. Points Dropped Leicester (h) - 2 West Ham (a) - 3 Chelsea (h) - 3 Total - 8 Points Gained Newcastle (a) - 1 Chelsea (a) - 3 Liverpool (a) - 1 Villa (h) - 1 Sunderland (h) - 1 Liverpool (h) - 3 Everton (a) - 1 Spurs (a) - 3 Total -
Patrick Bateman Posted 9 May, 2016 Share Posted 9 May, 2016 It was very much a typical Pochettino match if there is such a thing - certainly in the time we had him at Saints. Spurs have been brilliant this season mostly, but that was poor yesterday. All that sideways passing and possession and they surrendered a lead. Summed up many of his "no plan b" matches with us. He's still a quality manager though, so I'm putting it down to a deflated squad with a couple of regulars missing.
nta786 Posted 9 May, 2016 Share Posted 9 May, 2016 (edited) this is usually something i always complain about, because before the liverpool game this season the last time we had won from behind AT HOME was aston villa in 2012. this season has been an improvement in that regard, under poch as soon as we conceded it was like our heads just dropped... So not Chelsea away this season then?
LainPain Posted 9 May, 2016 Share Posted 9 May, 2016 Koeman is a better tactician then Poch ultimately, despite Poch's strong plan A. His main strength is player development, seen with us and Spurs. I read somewhere that Spurs have dropped the most points from leading positions, something like 20.

sadoldgit Posted 9 May, 2016 Share Posted 9 May, 2016 Apparently Spuds have lost 20 points after being in a winning position this season. Something for the What Ifs to ponder on.

Didn't we do something similar under Poch? Not to criticise too heavily, he is an excellent manager but I do wonder about the mental strength of his teams. For all the talk of Leicester being strong enough to see it through, it has been Spurs who have well and truly bottled it over the last 3 games. For all the talk of Leicester being strong enough to see it through, it has been Spurs who have well and truly bottled it over the last 3 games. I am not sure if it's mental or physical. The downside of the pressing game surely has to be the physical effort and therefore likely to involve the risk of running out of steam in a game. I think I read somewhere Liverpool are up there too for points thrown away and they play the same pressing type of game?
Lighthouse Posted 9 May, 2016 Author Share Posted 9 May, 2016 Man Utd at home another 3 dropped?????? You're right. For some reason I was thinking Martial scored first.
tpbury Posted 9 May, 2016 Share Posted 9 May, 2016 The best teams in the world would have zero wins coming from behind. Fact.
