" Poch, Toby, Levy, Paul Mitchell, Talk sports, St Charlie your boys have taken a hell of a beating today! A hell of a beating!"

Travelling back from the in-laws during the match had to listen to the whole game on a fuzzy Talk****e commentary which quite frankly was awful. This result is so good, though, it was even worth putting up with Stan Collymore :D

For me, today's result was probably the one I have enjoyed the most this season.

As most of us on here will know, winning today means that if we get anything from the final home game against Palace, the club will have bettered last season's highest Prem points total of 60, reaching either 61 or 63. Whether that leaves us 6th, 7th or 8th depends on the results of other teams. But this does mean that since the Leibherr purchase in July 2009, the club has improved its end result every season by moving up the leagues or achieving more points. Sooner or later, when the pundits and journalists report on Saints' results, such as today, they may notice that the original project to grow this club over a set period of time, is continuing. It is beginning to appear that Southampton is not a little club having an occasional moment in the sun but that it may actually be on the way to even bigger things.

Although we have lost players in the close seasons, often reluctantly, one remarkable thing about today's result is that only three players who were with the club 3 years ago (Fonte, Davis and Ward-Prowse) played any part today. Inevitably, as fans we tend to focus on the players and the manager but that statistic suggests that much of the credit must go to the Board who have presided over the project of continuous improvement. At next week's game, Katherina, Ralph and Les all deserve to be shown the fans' appreciation, as well as Ronald, the coaches and the players.

A sane and realistic view. It seems that so many don't remember where we were 5 or even 10 years ago. It's so nice to go into a game hoping that if we win, we might get into Europe AGAIN as opposed to we still need 3 points to not get relegated. The turn around is truly incredible and we have to believe and support Kat and co as they have totally and utterly transformed this cub over the past years.

I fancied it today , . Once we went 2-1 up they were as flat as **** , most sides would have done them from that position , Had they needed to beat us today , they would have done . I really don't recognise or understand the gloating on here , they were there for the taking and we didn't need to play particularly well to beat them . They were flat , understandably so . Having said that , we got the job done . Long , VvD , Davo , outstanding . Tadic was in and out , Martina a liability, Fonte was dodgy , FF at fault for the goal . Don't get me wrong, I'm chuffed as **** to do them , but let's not get carried away .

All the talk of Man U finishing in fourth, it is possible for them to finish sixth. West Ham win midweek and both Uniteds to lose at the weekend, combined with a win for us and we are fifth!

I don't think I can quite fit the words 'possible, Man, Utd, lose, home' and 'Bournemouth' into a sentence but you're right, mathematically speaking.

I'll hold my hand up, I thought we were completely out of it. Whoever had money on us to beat City and Spurs, whilst West Ham, whilst the Swans beat Liverpool and West Ham, you're buying the drinks.

Forster really doesn't like coming off his line, does he?

Seems slightly worse since the injury, even though it wasn't a strength of his before.

Could be something that may put off other clubs potentially.

Note: obviously great win etc, not taking anything away from that!

Kane was an obvious distraction -and a strong case can be made he was interfering with play (and hence offside). Nothing to do with his injury. Forster has seemed reluctant to come off his line since his Villa gaffe last season.

Can anyone tell me the words to the song that sounds like a dodgy achy brake heart, That the saints fans are singing on the link on saints fc just after long gives his shirt to a fan

We've got Van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk

I just don't think you understand

He's Ronald Koeman's man

He's better than Jaap Stam

We've got Virgil van Dijk

That is still going round in my head on a bloody loop, walked out of Basingstoke station whistling it in the tunnel :p

First trip ever to WHL so a very happy boy at the final whistle.

That second goal was like super slow motion, crap a daisy cutter, Lloris has got that, oh no he hasn't, must be going wide then,............ It's in the back of the net!!!!!

Mention for the Spurs fan in the blue shirt giving it out first half, turned around and found he was alone in his rant as someone in our lot, oh dear the bloke got the full force of the Saints fans back at him, when the second went in we had the shirt off his back literally.

It's not often a post get's me significantly motivated to post, let alone re-post, but please re-read this. Football management and boards will quickly get the blame when things go wrong, but seldom get the accolades when things go right....

What a time to get a run of form going, Europe is suddenly looking on again and I never thought I'd be saying that after Everton.

So, this season we've beaten

Chelsea (a)

Utd (a)

Spurs (a)

+ thrashed Arse at home.

Not sure when that will be repeated again.

Bonkers season hopefully topped off with a Europa place again :D

I remember the complaints that we hadn't beaten anyone in the top half!!! Special mention to Davo today. Works his socks off and deserves MotM award.

the start of the Press Pass, they mentioned saints and how 'refreshing' it is for a club not being on the beach after 40 points. And that Koeman could be poached in the summer

The most satisfying win of the season by far. I thought we started slowly and Spurs seemed to start with a point to prove, but we got the 1-1 at the right time. That seemed to kill off any belief they had and from then on in it was us who had the better chances. Although they had more of the ball, most of that was between the CB's and sideways in midfield. The amount of times you saw the likes of Erikksen stopping, looking, then going back is great credit to our organisation. There's 'putting men behind the ball' and then there's tactically holding a shape and having ways to evolve from that shape into an attacking move, and we mastered that to the T today.

Perfect away performance and now Koeman can say he has beaten every single premier league club in his 2 seasons here.

In my honest opinion, I cannot see both Liverpool and West Ham winning both of their remaining games - it would be incredibly freakish if they did, so as long as we win on the last day I think we'll be in the same position as last year - rooting for a team in the FA Cup final!

Why not get carried away? We turned over Spuds in their own back yard. Id say we have every right to get carried away with a wonderful end of the season run of results!!!

And if they want 2nd place and to finish above Arsenal they did need to beat us.

Name the teams that have this record over their last 6 matches

2 wins | 3 draws | 1 loss

9 points

Newcastle, Sunderland, and..... Tottenham :D

.

.

..oh, and West Ham, but it is not as amusing if I had included them.

Thing is IF we finish 6th we still need to hope West Ham finish above Liverpool - think I'm right in saying that if we're 6th, Liverpool 7th, Palace win FA Cup, and Liverpool win Europa, that 6th wouldn't get Europa (I.e. 5 CL spots and 2 Europa which would be 5th place and Palace)... right?

Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

If we're 6th and Liverpool come 7th and win the Europa 5th gets the first EL place, Palace get the Cup Winner place and we'll get what is effectively City's League Cup place through the league because they have to at least finish in the EL places. In that situation 6th would only put us in the 3rd Qualifying Round though, bit annoying.

Basically it works out that Liverpool can only cost themselves EL qualification by winning the CL, not anyone else.
