Did Virgil just say he wants to stay for "another couple of years"?

Well if you think a player of his level is gunna stay at Southampton for 6 years than you my friend are bonkers. The extensions mealy to keep him a couple more years and rise any price that is offered.

I think he meant on top of the current deal, relax.
I don't he did mean that, I took it that he'd be here for 2 more years. That would be a fantastic result as it at least gives the club time to how ambition for him to stay longer

What a time to get a run of form going, Europe is suddenly looking on again and I never thought I'd be saying that after Everton.

So, this season we've beaten

Chelsea (a)

Utd (a)

Spurs (a)

+ thrashed Arse at home.

Not sure when that will be repeated again.

Bonkers season hopefully topped off with a Europa place again :D

So we win our last game = 63 points.

West Ham beat Man Utd and lose to Stoke = 62 points

and

Man U lose to West Ham and Bournemouth = 63 points and a worse GD than us

and

Liverpool don't win all of their games at Watford, Chelsea and WBA

and we finish 5th!

Bournemouth doing the double on Utd might be pushing things a bit too far. Maybe Utd beating WHU and then we win our last game with Liverpool getting a draw somewhere to leave us 6th is more realistic.

What a win, great defensive display. Right in the race for Europe now having gone under the radar this season.

I said last season in a way we would have been better starting poorly then creeping up the table. We got to 2nd and the expectation was too much

Great display by Saints. Rode our luck slightly to get the win but you have to do that away against a good spurs side. Now need to keep our foot on the gas against Palace and hope others drop points.

Lovely composure by Davis for the 2nd. Coupled with great workrate, got into great attacking positions today and showed just what an asset he is to Saints . My MOM.

Fantastic save by fraser at the death. At fault for the 1st but i'll take a terrific keeper inside his 6 yard box who's got a slight flaw in terms of sweeping.

Martina was the weak link 1st half but clearly helped by instruction after that and did better. still think we need to invest in a top drawer right back in the summer though.

Glad they took off Son who was causing us all sorts of problems.

it was a fantastic result but Spurs were not at the races today. I like to think that it was us who caused it,not their disappointment from the other night

I think it was us that caused it. They looked a very good team but we ground them down and they ran out of ideas.

Whatever happens with the final league position it's great to see us put in such a storming finish to the season - excellent stuff!

Last 8 games - W6 D1 L1, including wins against Liverpool Man C and Spurs. Great effort.

Thing is IF we finish 6th we still need to hope West Ham finish above Liverpool - think I'm right in saying that if we're 6th, Liverpool 7th, Palace win FA Cup, and Liverpool win Europa, that 6th wouldn't get Europa (I.e. 5 CL spots and 2 Europa which would be 5th place and Palace)... right?

Saints will play a lot better and lose games but who cares - we've finally stuffed Spurs at their place. Davo, Long, Bertrand very good and special mention to Romeu, who once again was far more effective than Clasie. Not a great game from Vic today; maybe he's staying!!
Disagree. As Souness said on tv, which I agree with, Wanyama kept Kane quiet all game, and that's not easy.

We've now beat every team in the PL in Koeman's 2 years. 6th is on the cards and that could be automatic group stage, no extra-early preseason which will help, especially with Euros stopping some of our lads from getting a break.

I'm currently watching the game on Sky + "as live" as I've been at work. Told colleagues not to tell me the score. I've just seen the Spurs goal go in, and I've buckled and looked at the score! Well looking forward to the rest of this game now!

(The wife still thinks I don't know the score though, so I'll act dumb. Shouldn't be too hard...)

Actually I'm overthinking it aren't I, if Palace won the cup then 7th wouldn't mean a European spot so wouldn't matter what Liverpool do in Europa final I.e. 6th is fine regardless. A Utd cup win and West Ham 7th would still be good though as straight to group stage then!

No idea!! But I read that if Man U win the FA Cup and Liverpool win the Europa League, then England has 8 teams in Europe.

For the first 30 minutes we were played off the park; and they did look a class above us.

Didn't agree then and don't now if Tadic had crossed to Davis and Forster had not been anticipating an off side whistle we would have been deservedly one up

Yes North London Yobos had the ball more and all the possession but our plan was to defend deep suck them in block their wingers and hit them on the break and it worked beautifully from the onset

Class result. Forster quality at the end, after his inability to come out of his goal decisively cost us.

Second points tally in 2016 to Leicester. Great work from Koeman, lets keep him and build on the momentum.

We have a good team so lets have an ambitious summer.

Yep! It needs a 6 year contract to keep them here for 2 years? You couldn't make it up.

Hopefully what he meant was a couple more years longer than he first thought.

He meant he had signed an extra two year extension not that he would be here for two years !

Tadic with 12 league assists now. Only two players have more (Ozil and Eriksen).

Since he made his debut in August 2014, only Cesc Fabregas (25) and Mesut Ozil (23) have more Premier League assists than Dusan Tadic (19)

You may all thank me. Went to my lucky pub and had a "few" pints of Hole Hearted, felt the tension, my agitation and blood pressure rising. Even at 1-0 down I felt we'd score and was even thinking it was time for Davis to step up, but!!!? I'm off for another cuppa and Amlodipine...

They played well but created little and their goal was fortunate. Meanwhile we looked likely to score on the break and would have done if Tadic had pulled it a yard further back.

You saw all the weaknesses in the Poch system today.

This incredible, bright future, Spurs team has agreed total of five more points than it got last season if I'm not mistaken. And that in a weak season.

I maintain that they have not improved much at all and will be lucky to finish top 5 if Utd, City and Chelsea get their act together.

Meanwhile, we remain quite frustrating to watch at times but are arch-pragmatists. Beat Palace and a good chance of European football again... get in!

That's better Charlie, feels much better than praising every other team doesn't it?

We are a good side with a great manager, really, really hope he stays for a very long time
