My top 5 things we need to address for next season.

(1) Sort out why we are **** for 10 matches before and after xmas.

(2) Get Townsend in if the toons go down. We were after him before and he would sort out the problem with our left and right flank if Tadic is having a bad period.

(3) Steven Davis needs to become a squad player which means we need a decent energetic midfielder like Ross Barkley.

(4) Tie down Wanayama and Mane as they are so important for us.

(5) Get Charlie Austin fit.

This could easily see us challenging for a champions league place.

Steve Davis was once again one of our best players today. Mad how fans can't appreciate what he offers. Far better than Wanyama and clasie in that midfield.

If nobody offers what we want then surely they won't be leaving.

Simple as that!!!

Which has to be balanced by the club making sure they don't leave on a free. It's not as easy as tying them down they both know they are wanted by other clubs with much deeper pockets than Southampton. Those two will be gone this summer people need to deal with it.

I like Davis, he is a good player. But. This is a position we could improve in. Sigurdsson, he has 11 goals and 3 assists to Davis' 2 goals and 3 assists. Those extra goals could be an additional 4-6 points.

I would love to see Saints assert themselves as the next best team after the big clubs (which we are 110%). We are so close to challenging the top 4 and only need 2-3 players (if we can keep Wanyama and Mane). Next season needs to be the season we go for it!!

Mane and Wanyama are as good as gone, I am staggered there are people who think otherwise.

Sadly this is probably true.

Funnily enough, I wonder if we could put a bid in for Walcott as a replacement for Mané? Granted his wages will be big but the transfer fee shouldn't be too much.

Plus, when you look at what he'd bring to the table in terms of pace and finishing he'd probably suit our style quite nicely. He's not the most skillful player in the world but with our system the way it is, he wouldn't have to be. Mané's a wonderfully talented player but what made him effective today was simply his ability to run through one-on-one and finish. That's a job Theo could probably do quite effectively - and we get more out of Long when he's alongside a pacy strike partner as well.

1) Don't sell Mane

2) Don't sell Wanyama

3) Don't sell Forster

4) Don't sell Fonte

5) Don't sell van Dijk

The Leicester model is not about buying; it's about not selling.

If we could invest in getting Chambers back, that would be a good summer for us.

1 - We aren't Leicester

2 - How many big money offers did they fend off for their players last summer?

Agree with your comments Stan, although I think Mane is going to be nigh impossible to replace. The other facets of his game which was so effective today were his touches, lay offs and passes, often one-touch, often to a player in a dangerous position. I just haven't seen many players like him who on the same day can play winger, striker and attacking mid with such impact.

Mane has been utterly brilliant for us. I don't think I have ever seen a player run as much and work as hard as he does for us in my whole 50 year history of watching Saints. The only other player who'd compare is Kevin Keegan. He's improving and so he'll be even better next season. If we could even hang on to him until January before the owner needs to sell him, she could make another 10 million. If she cashes in in the summer, she'll lose that and we'll lose one of the best players we've ever had.

1) break the cycle of selling very important players every summer

2) actually manage to get at least one sought after player to sign a new contract

3) stop having "positive talks" with Koeman and actually reassure him that ambition is there to kick on to get him to sign

4) start believing in what an excellent team we could be if we just invest in one or two areas

Indeed a great player, him and Townsend with a Pelle replacement would surely have us knocking on the door for champions league.

I think $hlong does a lot more running, unselfish running for sure, than Mane

If players want to leave then they won't sign a contract, it doesn't matter how much money we offer them unless we go crazy and thankfully we won't! Remember P*rtsmouth...

Fact is we can't offer Champions League football anytime soon. Sure, maybe we could if we kept all these players...but the individuals don't care about that, they just want to be at a big club already playing there.

Not sure mane covered more ground than anyone yesterday. Was unplayable.

Long definitely covered more.

pffft yeah they bravely held off all those huge bids for their players.... be interesting to see if they hold onto Kante and Marhez this summer.

Wait...Wait...Wait...So now we WANT Townsend?! I can't keep up with this forum.

I do - so should England -if only as an impact sub. Of course the purists will bemoan his lack of finesse and he is a greedy bstard. Ask the Geordies what his impact has been.

The title of the thread is called "going forwards", not "coming 10th" so the list of things which we need to do in order to go forwards is still perfectly valid and not as unreasonable as you've gotten yourself to believe.

He was sh*te when we had him and he's still sh*te now.

Have you seen the performances he's put in for Arsenal.

The word "liability" springs to mind.

Either one of Soares/Martina are better than him.

I've got to be honest.

When Arsenal coughed up £16M for him I was surprised.

I didn't think he was worth that.

The fact he's English probably pushed that fee but on footballing ability alone he wasn't and isn't worth what Arsenal paid.

Don't give him airtime, hopefully he'll be banned soon.

WTF?

This forum is soft as sh*te.

Honestly.

This is just convo.

Lol..try RAWK or FightingCock you'd be in tears and that's not even the REAL trolls.

Note to admin: If you want to ban me by all means ban me but F*king hell lmao.

The difficulty we have is that we rely on Davis to play our way. Anyone who can score goals and marshal midfield like him is earning £100,000 a week at a top club. We'd all love an upgrade who can bang them in from 30 yards but we'd risk losing other elements of our game.

Wait...Wait...Wait...So now we WANT Townsend?! I can't keep up with this forum.

He's been great since moving to Newcastle, which has swayed a few. I'm still not sure but I'd love to have him here in his current form.

The problem with Davis is he ain't getting any younger and we really don't have anyone else to play in his normal position other than Mane (who is off) or JWP (who isn't up to it) we really need to buy at least one younger player who can play that position if he is better than Davis and can bring a few goals to the team that would be great.

1. Sign Koeman long term, which may be dependant on 2 & 3.

2. Try not to sell anyone at all, at max one key player - Wanyama, and if we do sell early replacements of real quality.

3. Get someone in attacking midfield No. 10 role, someone like Ox or Sigurdsson who will add goals from midfield, a sensible but high quality signing. (i.e. someone that fits the ethos not a high profile signing for the PR)

4. Get Jay Rod and Austin fit

5. Get another centre back in to challenge Fonte/Virgil.

This squad is basically one Mahrez/Payet away from the Champions league challenge this season IMO, so if we can hold on to what we've got and 2/3 that improve the squad, whilst keeping/getting others fit we'll have chance.

This. Koeman was waxing lyrical about another fantastic Davis performance in his post match interview. As long as that continues and Steven keeps getting picked then it isn't an issue. The answer to the huge number of our fans that still don't rate him, as I do, just file under dinlow! :D
