Who do you want to go Up and Down?

Boro drawing tonight sort of puts Brighton and Burnley in the driving seat.

If Burnley beat Derby on Monday night they are all but promoted, barring a big shift in GD in the final round, as Boro host Brighton in their last game.

Remaining fixtures

Brighton vs Derby

Burnley vs QPR

Charlton vs Burnley

Boro vs Brighton

The unfortunate 3rd placed team looks likely to be joined by Hull, Derby and Wednesday in the playoffs.

Personally I'd like to see Brighton, Burnley and Wednesday come up. Brighton just because it would annoy the Skates, Burnley for family reasons and because I admire them for sticking with Dyche. Wednesday just because we haven't seen them for a while.

To stay up, I'd like Norwich but I think Sunderland.

Didn't realise Boro v Brighton was on the last day. Brilliant - should be like a bonus play off final.

I want Brighton and Derby to go up but not fussed about either Burnley or Boro. Probably prefer Burnley at a push. Boro going up will only fuel the Gastonettes on here and we'll have five years of people droning on about how he single handedly promoted Middlesbrough.

Burnley and Brighton. Nice to see Chris Hughton come up as Newcastle go the other way.

Don't mind who for play offs. Soft spot for Hull but maybe because we always beat them and Steve Bruce always gracious in defeat.

Although nothing in grand scheme of things doesn't the parachute money get redistributed to PL teams when those in receipt of it come back up. So we could paint another hashtag on the seats or something.

Living in Brighton most of their fans have only been going to games for 3 years since the new stadium opened and are pretty clueless. Many support other teams in the PL.

Would be great for the south coast to have 3 PL sides but by about October they will get pretty tedious.

Chris Hughton and Paul Barber (CEO) came into my work on Wednesday for a Q&A session. Was interesting to note that Tony Bloom the owner his currently having to put about £1.5m a month into the club to keep it running. Just shows how costly it can be to get out of the Championship and Brighton have good attendances to balance it and haven't spent the fortunes some others have.

They also mentioned their Academy currently tends to take the players "Chelsea and Southampton don't want" which I liked. That said, they have invested a lot into their Academy and the owner is very wealthy so if they established themselves they could be decent competition. Nice place to live and close to London/Gatwick so attractive for players.

Would like Brighton & Hull to come up, but expect Burnley., Middlesborough and 1 other.

Rather it isn't Boro, or Derby as still hold some resentment over out loss at the Riverside in the Championship, and our play offs with Derby.

Going down - would be pleased to see the back of Allardyce, but expect them to get out of it and Norwich and Newcastle to go.

Yeah Brighton games were fun always a red card and a bit of needle ...might no be the same, now though, without Gus there. Quite like Norwich to stay up but having the feeling Sunderland will stay up by the skin of their teeth again. As for the others quite like Steve Bruce and Hull (pretty much a nailed on three points) so nice to see them sneak up through the play offs.

Got a mate in Norwich who put us up all over New Year, so want them to stay up. Would also like one of Newcastle or Sunderland to stay up too, as I like going up there. Obviously that can't happen, and Boro coming up isn't really the same.

My only real interest in the Championship is which teams' grounds the wife hasn't been to, so she'll want to see Derby or Sheffield Wednesday come up. Unless Rotherham get given 50 points from somewhere I won't be going there any time soon and that's the only ground in the top two divisions I haven't done ( until West Ham move).

Brighton I have mixed feelings about, like the place and the transport links, can't stand the team or fans. I'd rather they stayed in their box.

the question is who do you want to stay up out of newcastle and sunderland?

I'd rather Sam went down. video clips of him chewing his gum, with his mouth wide open is horrible

That and the pundits for weeks have been saying it will be sunderland as 'Defoe only needs 1 chance'

Newcastle look unrecognisable from the side that was dreadful at ours. Benitez is a very good manager and I like him

I think newcastle will do it and if Rafa stays, they will not be in this position next season, that is for sure

Newcastle have a tough next game against Villa.

Agree gum chewing is a good reason just doesn't beat Mike Ashley losing money for me though.

The gum chewing IS annoying, but it's not my main reason for wanting Sunderland to go down.

I just really dislike them.

would like to see Norwich stay up as it is a good away day venue. Friendly locals and places to eat and drink. But they won't. Got a funny feeling that Newcastle will escape. They have Villa (a) (3 points) followed by Spurs at home (who will have lost the title by then)

As the wife is a Norwich fan, obviously I want them to stay up. They won't. They've not had the results the other two have. As for the other two, Newcastle have put together the better form and have better players than Sunderland, but after doing a bit of fixture Maths, I think they'll run out of games just at the wrong time.

So IMO it's Villa, Norwich and Newcastle for the drop. If I had to pick between the two Northern clubs to stay up, I'd choose Sunderland anyway, as they'd be more beatable next season than a resurgent Newcastle! (Especially if Rafa stayed.)

As for going up its so tight for autos, but Brighton will miss out by a point on the last day, and Hull will win the play-offs. So Burnley, Boro and Hull for promotion. As for who I want, Brighton to win the play-offs would be my alteration. South coast derby next season.

Burnley, Brighton and Wednesday up. Sunderland down. I can't stand Sunderland mainly because they have a knack of nicking points off us and their sack manager, bring new one in before playing Newcastle and staying up before doing it all over again is annoying. They've outstayed their welcome and are stinking the place up.

Also, never got over Boro beating us at their place before the Coventry match, them and David bloody Nugent can stay away.

  • 2 weeks later...
Looks like Brighton will struggle now. Got more points than us when we got promoted

And struggling big time with injuries, shame as it would be nice to have another south coast team in the Prem, leaving only the Skates to fester in the 4th division :)

I still hope Brighton do it, but it now appears a tall order.

If Brighton don't manage it then hope its Hull, a fairly inoffensive club really. As a final resort,or perhaps putting it another way, anyone but Derby.

Good bet that it wont be Derby. 2-0 down at home to hull leading to HT and they are all over the place

Looking good for that so far. 0-2 down to Hull at HT in their home leg.

I never want to see Derby back in the PL ever again either. Still haven't got over them beating us in the 2007 playoffs by kicking lumps out of our best players, then watching their fans on the pitch goading us afterwards. Horrible city and horrible club.

As my nearest club Norwich has been relegated, and Ipswich didn't make it to the play-offs, I very selfishly want Hull to go up. This means that I can stay at my cousins in N Yorkshire for both Hull and Middlesboro as well as my summer holiday with him during Scarboro cricket festival!

Amazingly Burnley was his home club as although he lived in Yorks there was an easy bus to Burnley and he didn't like Leeds.

I sincerely hope Brighton don't manage it, and get seriously thumped on the way back down to whatever sticky brown patch they end up in. I was getting nervous when they were close to automatic promotion.

Spent several years in the area with many 'acquaintances' who were Seaweed fans - as a South Coast 'rival' I got stick regularly. And the arrogance was extraordinary, them having recently been to the Cup Final v ManUre. This placed them, in my eyes, lower than Pompey. I know... must've been bad, huh?

Yup.

Can't stand the club, supporters... anything about them, quite frankly.

I did go to the Goldstone ground in 1986 for the Cup QF, however. Saints won 2-0 thanks to Steve Moran & Glenn Cockerill. What a fine day that was! :D:smug:

I would like Wednesday to be promoted. I'm not sure why, probably just sentimental reasons. The town has been devastated from careless political decisions that have destroyed it's industries over the years and also Sheffield Wednesday's had a hard time. The Premier League should have representation from a large city like Sheffield - it's Wednesday's turn.

Whenever I have seen Derby on Sky Sports highlights reels over the last few seasons I've found them to be really entertaining and the atmosphere in the ground looks brilliant. Whenever I take the time to watch one of their games they look absolutely ****. Hillsborough was rocking last night, think I'd like Sheffield Wednesday to come up, but also a big fan of Steve Bruce so likewise would be happy with Hull coming up. Definitely, absolutely, positively, certainly not Brighton.

One of my more accurate predictions so far. Hull looked good today.

Totally with that idea it is crazy that the biggest club from the 3rd/4th/5th (depends who you ask) biggest city in the country isn't in the top flight plus I need a local game back was great in the lower leagues!
