Sorry to rub it in, but he was quite brilliant live. Saw both his Maine Road gigs in the early 90s. The pick was the Diamonds and Pearls tour in 92 - a fantastic rendering of my favourite Prince album.

He also refused to release his Black album for years as he thought it was evil and would corrupt his listeners. That really is the kind of thing you want from your rock icons.

 

RIP - listening to nothing but Prince today. And I've painted myself purple.
