sad saints fan Posted 22 April, 2016 Posted 22 April, 2016 I am in Birmingham already. What pubs are away friendly tomorrow and is there a particular pub we are going to be in.
Pamplemousse Posted 22 April, 2016 Posted 22 April, 2016 I'm not sure Europa entices players. CL yes but other than that it's just money and the prospects of the team next season. We can still compete well with any non CL club Europa League is just a few extra games. What entices players is playing in the Premier League. Clasie, Van Dijk etc. didn't come here because we were playing Vitesse and Midtjylland. It was the opportunity to compete against Man Utd, City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Vancouver Saint Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Well I sincerely hope we don't fall victim to the 'newly liberated' team that's just been relegated putting themselves on display for buyers and playing out of their skins...we've all seen it before. We need a couple of quick killer goals to snuff that out...then go on and put another three or four in. Just thinking out loud.
Shance Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 I think it's been a great yet frustrating season at the same time. Great because we have managed to finish there or there abouts of last seasons finish having lost 4 very important players (which lets be honest is bloody impressive) but the frustrating part was going on such a horrid run mid season losing 8/10 games. All those loses in one hit really knocked the teams confidence imo and made it more and more difficult to bounce back.

It happens every year around the Xmas period, the club needs to work out why this is a problem?
Redslo Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Lawro predicts 2-0 to us (fair enough) but thinks we are on course to follow last season's eighth-place finish with something very similar. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36091973 I would rather follow up last season's fourth place finish with something similar.

Clasie, Van Dijk etc. didn't come here because we were playing Vitesse and Midtjylland. It was the opportunity to compete against Man Utd, City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea. Should the club's goal be to win the 8th place trophy every year and, thereby, cleverly avoid the burden of the Europa League? (Kind of like a poor man's Arsenal.) Or is progress year over year something to strive for?
Saint Charlie Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 ...the frustrating part was going on such a horrid run mid season losing 8/10 games. All those loses in one hit really knocked the teams confidence imo and made it more and more difficult to bounce back. Whilst that run was obviously poor its worth remembering that when we beat West Ham on 6th February we were above them and also won our next game at Swansea. That gave us a great chance of European football at that stage. Unfortunately, as seems to happen when we are on the cusp on something (like a cup semi final) we seemed to wilt under the pressure: threw away a lead against Chelsea to lose, didn't turn up against Bournemouth and then were poor at home to Sunderland. Add in the disappointing return of 1 point from the Leicester and Everton games where we should have had 4 and thats why we have slipped behind. You probably shouldnt be able to reach 6th or 7th if you lose 8 in 10 during a spell of the season. But we could have done.

I agree with this I can understand Champions league, or the realistic prospect of, will attract players but I guess the main draw will be the players weekly wage and the additional wedge a players agent will obtain as an 'Arrangement Fee' plus the profile of playing in one of the world's top leagues
Shance Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Most players don't give a **** about playing in the Champions League. It's a yard stick used as an excuse to leave for more money.
Supersubpuckett Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 we made them look good at sms and i've a horrible feeling they will beat us - we're not realistically playing for anything anymore and some of our players might be thinking about their next move 2-0 villa with mane and pelle missing their usual selection of gilt edged chances

Lighthouse Posted 23 April, 2016 Author Posted 23 April, 2016 Anyone watching Soccer Saturday? Merson's rant about hair styles was priceless.

Which players told you that they don't give a **** about the Champions League? Sure the money helps but its also a chance to play in some massive games if you get to the latter stages.
Batman Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Anyone watching Soccer Saturday? Merson's rant about hair styles was priceless. just watched that

ericofarabia Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Have a feeling today will be one where it comes together in attack, after the frustrations of last week. A win does nothing for villa fans. It's not like a gallant side that just aren't good enough and have been playing with any degree of pride. It's a mess of a side with no quality and not enough effort and even their longest serving player seemingly not giving a toss. Score early and they'll fall apart. 0-5 With planned demos by the fans already, a monumental collapse could well lead to pitch invasions ... could be a strange afternoon today. I'm well prepared with a pint of Margarita before I set off to the beach to watch the game with @dubaisaints, many of whom are at a Beer and Cider Festival ... could be a messy afternoon methinks!!

Pamplemousse Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Interesting that Pelle and Mané have been dropped
Batman Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 I have a new man-crush on ronald with that line up. now watch it fail spectacularly
Lighthouse Posted 23 April, 2016 Author Posted 23 April, 2016 That'll do. No excuses, I expect J Rod, Long and Tadic to rip holes in this lot.
Saints foreva Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Think that lineup says a lot about how Koeman sees our season. Dead as ****.
Jonnyboy Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 we made them look good at sms and i've a horrible feeling they will beat us - we're not realistically playing for anything anymore and some of our players might be thinking about their next move 2-0 villa with mane and pelle missing their usual selection of gilt edged chances Unlikely now I think.
Batman Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Think that lineup says a lot about how Koeman sees our season. Dead as ****. not at all. apart from maybe mane. that is as good as it gets IMO
Jonnyboy Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Think that lineup says a lot about how Koeman sees our season. Dead as ****. You don't rate JRod then?
austsaint Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 not at all. apart from maybe mane. that is as good as it gets IMO Any ideas/theories on why Mane has been dropped to the bench?
igsey Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Mané super sub to come on and score a second half hattrick. Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 not at all. apart from maybe mane. that is as good as it gets IMO But.....but......what...Pelle always plays....whatever....
Patrick Bateman Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Think that lineup says a lot about how Koeman sees our season. Dead as ****.
Batman Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 But.....but......what...Pelle always plays....whatever.... what do you think of the line up and how do you think we will get on today? 1-3 to saints IMO

ALWAYS_SFC Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 what do you think of the line up and how do you think we will get on today 1-3 to saints IMO I would expect us to win, early goal to make the already angry home crowd even more on the players backs
Saint-Armstrong Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 (edited) SAINTS: Forster; Cédric, Fonte, Van Dijk, Bertrand; Wanyama; Romeu, S. Davis; Tadić; Long, Rodriguez. Edited 23 April, 2016 by Saint-Armstrong
Saints foreva Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 not at all. apart from maybe mane. that is as good as it gets IMO Form wise Pelle is our best striker.....
Pamplemousse Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Think that lineup says a lot about how Koeman sees our season. Dead as ****. 1.2/10
Shance Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 (edited) Yes. Rodriguez starts!!!!! I was really hoping he would. That's a quality attacking line up. Very very mobile with lots of pace. We should tear these apart!! Hopefully it lines up as a 4231 with Long and Tadic either side of Jay Rod and Davis behind them in am. Don't like Davis on the right wing as he's completely **** there imo. Edited 23 April, 2016 by Shance
Chalkboy Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 I like the line-up. We have Mane and Pelle to come on should we need to change things. Let's hope for an early goal and if it's from Jay Rod even better
Sheaf Saint Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Long and Rodriguez running against the slowest and worst defence in the PL this season. As long as they get the right balls played through to them, it could be a massacre.
saint lard Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 I'm liking that line up.......hopefully still do after 90 mins. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Plastic Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Watching NHL in the buildup. These guys are crazy.
