Nothing we didn't know already. We've known for a year that Wanyama and Mane will probably go. Tadic has hinted he might be off, Pelle is probably done here and as he says Juanmi will more than likely go.

He says there might be "2 or 3 departures". I don't think that'll be the end of the world if the black box keeps doing it's job!

Hopefully its the black box from summer 2014 rather than the virus-ridden 2015 version (Van Dijk aside).

This comes across as a classic case of a journo asking a leading question, and trying to sensationalise the response. Given the amount of players who have left over the last two summers, and the fact that pundits and commentators still can't stop banging on about it, we have to expect this kind of thing in the run-up to the transfer window I guess.

And yet were not far off another good finish this season. If you swapped Leicester and Chelsea in this seasons table people would think we'd had another decent season. It's only Leicester doing what they've done that is making a lot of mid-table sides feel they've under performed this season.

WHU have been getting allsorts of plaudits this season and yet are one place above us and inline to win the sum total of diddly squat.

If we secure another top eight finish, even after losing Morgan, that's got to be pretty postive Imo.

I understand that Koeman also believes that if a football is damaged during a match at St. Mary's, Southampton FC needs to be prepared to provide a replacement ball so the match can continue.

Good to see were slowly dragging you down to our level

Great we lose Wanyama who most people on here says has been ineffective. Tadic most people on on here says has been ineffective, Mane who most people on here says has bee ineffective. But at least theres a groundswell of opinion to get Ramirez back, who most people on here seem to think shows a lot of potential.

I can come up of a list of 5 first team members who may go (Mane, Vic, Forster, VVD, Pelle whose replacement now has a big question mark about his fitness).

I reckon this could be the worst summer yet... :(

If you want to go "full meltdown" - you forgot Bertrand.

I did indeed.

Whilst I kind of have faith in the club to replace many of these players given time, just how bad will we be in August trying to build a team again, espeically if we havent got a manager ?

The downside this year seems a nightmare...

Ahh well the relegation fight could make for a different type of entertainment.

I dare say the club will be already talking to players and manager to see what can be done.

Tbh the best response possible is to ignore the media who will spend the summer printing any and every rumour they find on the Internet and attempting to portray it as gospel truth. Expect to lose at least two players, hope to keep VVD and a few others. Trust the club to have already planned replacements

Hopefully the club closes its doors before we have to endure the worst summer in the history of football for any football team since the time of football began.

Surely that's not possible, we sold all our best players over the last 2 summers and replaced them with dross, so logically it can't be any worse unless of course, you only look on the dark side and you wouldn't do that, would you Alps ??

Anyway welcome back, it's been a bit too positive over the last few weeks, what with the great comeback v Liverpool etc. etc...

I'm resigned to Vic going; Pelle goes with my best wishes and so would Tadic; I worry about VVD being sniffed out by "big Clubs" but expect he will at least spend a second season with us. The player I hope stays with us is Mane - if there's the slightest chance the Club can keep him they must pull out all stops.

Fonte off to a club in Portugal, add that to your wrist slitting list of doom.

VVD is worth about 4 Manes

I doubt very much that RK is bothered about who he loses this summer, don't forget, he's off to Arsenal anyway.... allegedly....

Mane and Wanyama are pretty much certainties, despite both having pretty poor seasons.

VVD is the concern as he's been brilliant, but we've lost a CB every year, and replaced them with someone as good. Think he'll stay as long as Koeman does, for atleast another season.

Clubs may be after Forster, however I can't see him going just yet. Liverpool would make the most sense.

Posted

If anything I think we're more likely to keep players now that I thought we were at the start of the season. Can't see anyone in for Cedric, I doubt Van Dijk would Lovren us, Wanyama and Mane have underachieved compared to last season and are slightly less certain to leave, Pelle going was always a possibility, Bertrand, Tadic and Forster aren't really up there in the "being talked about" stakes either. Could be relatively settled, maybe only 3 first team starters going this year and 2 of them have been pretty much guaranteed for nearly a year.

Then again there's loads more money in the pot so maybe they get much bigger deals and don't go either.

That's because you're mental.

I don't think I'd be sad to see anyone other than VVD, Bertrand or Forster leaving and even then I'm sure we'd replace them.

Mané and Wanyama I don't think have done enough to a) attract serious interest from bigger clubs and b) command the sort of money Saints would want to part with them.

I'm not saying they wont leave but whoever buys them will be getting relatively poor value for money IMO.

People are starting to cotton on to the fact that Wanyama is distinctly average. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lack of bids for him and if he did leave, I think he'd disappoint a lot of his potential suitors. At Arsenal for one he'd do nothing but slow them down going forward and he'd almost certainly be the subject of many an Arsenal Fan TV episode with the likes of Angry Claude calling for the re-inclusion of Coquelin (or something like that).

Likewise with Mane, I've seen plenty of forums with opposing fans who don't want him. They see him as a bag of pace with no end product etc. Liverpool might be different given that he's scored 4 goals in 3 games against them (albeit only 3 in the other 30-something) (that's in all competitions of course).

Tadic isn't good enough to play for anyone better than us and if he did leave I wouldn't give two hoots.

Nor Pelle (although as our main target-man he'd need replacing).

Bertrand and Forster I'd be disappointed to lose. Liverpool will almost certainly bid for the latter.

VVD is a hell of a player and it'd be annoying to lose him. Hopefully his relatively poor performances for the Dutch NT provide a bit of a smokescreen.

But hey, players can always be replaced. Look at Atletico Madrid.

Torres > Forlan > Aguero > Falcao > Costa > Griezmann.

Pretty much agree with all of that.

On Forster, I'm not too concerned this year (famous last words). I think Klopp would be more inclined to look in Germany for a GK. For the price we would want, he could probably get a quality goalie from there for less money.

Issue will be if he doesn't sign a new contract and we get to next year with 1 year remaining. I'd like to think he would have a bit of loyalty and at least give us a year or two extension seeing as we saw him through his knee injury.

The two for me we must not lose are Bertrand and VVD.

Posted

We've done well to qualify for Europe and possibly place upper mid-table (whilst flirting with the top 5 on several occasion) for 3 seasons in a row with all these average players who people wouldn't mind seeing leave

Posted

Nothing at all in Koeman's comment, he was only speculating about what might need to happen should we lose one or two players. At no time did he suggests we would lose them. He was answering a question about OC coming here and he sort of implied we probably don't need him if everyone stays.

I do understand the fans pouring scorn on the fans showing concern about the chance of the spine of the team again being torn away. it has not happened as yet and of course we have survived the last 2 summers of the same happening.

I do have concerns about the complacency shown by many in their replies,do you all really believe this can happen year on year and we can still do well? Add to the players leaving there is a chance the manager might go as well.

It went Ok before of course, but what top manager will want to join a club knowing that they cannot really build.

I have been told from a very odd source that if RK leaves, his brother will take over.I myself am not sure that would happen but.....
