Gabriel Posted 14 April, 2016 Share Posted 14 April, 2016 Saints fans, Written up some thoughts ahead of your game against Everton - http://www.TheFootbalLab.co.uk/2016/everton-v-southampton-grafters-and-match-winners/ Say you finish 7th/8th this season, what would be the target going into next year? With a couple of quality additions, is it realistic to aim for a top four challenge? Cheers and good luck for the rest of the season.
Shance Posted 14 April, 2016 Share Posted 14 April, 2016 We've had a tiny push for top four this season but tbh next season will be a hell of a lot more difficult. City will have Guardiola, chelsea will have Conte, Everton will probably have a new manager as well plus all the teams around will be buying as well including Liverpool who have Klopp. Top 7 would be fantastic and maybe another push for Europa league! If not then a genuine shot at the FA cup.

Feel your lot are only a couple of top attacking players away from breaking in there.

NB. ...and not lose anyone from the first team in the summer...

Feel your lot are only a couple of top attacking players away from breaking in there. It's luck as much as anything. We were better than Leicester are now two years ago and we finished 8th. They have shown any bunch of cloggers can do exceptionally well if extremely lucky. We could finish anywhere. I would expect Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs and City as a minimum to finish above us jest season. Chelsea is hard to predict - not sure how Conte will do. I agree that City won't suddenly be amazing overnight but they should still finish high with the offensive players they have. Something like 7th to 10th is now "par". If we got a couple of great signings in we could go higher (West Ham absent Payet is not really very good) and if we have a bad run or mess up we could easily finish in the bottom half. UpweySaint Posted 14 April, 2016 Share Posted 14 April, 2016 Not sold on Soares then? Potential, just been caught out defensively too often and our other options aren't great. Don't think anybody has written him off yet but not quite hit the heights - has the makings of a decent modern full back.
ScepticalStan Posted 14 April, 2016 Share Posted 14 April, 2016 Not sold on Soares then? Nope. Not solid enough defensively in the tackle or shoulder-to-shoulder and nowhere near the flying full-back going forward that a lot of people hoped he'd be. I might be doing him a bit of a disservice there as he's not **** by any stretch, he's just very average and a clear step-down from Clyne. You have to do better than players of his level to make the top four.
