Before 1998 is what I can tell you :/

My prediction is gonna be 1-0 Everton- a Ross Barkley goal to settle it from distance.

Everton have a busy fixture list - a game on Wed night (13th) before our game (only 2 & half days rest) and then a derby against Liverpool a few days after our game (20th). And then their most important game (S/F of the Cup) is 7 days after our game (23rd).

We could be playing them at the right time.

They were excellent when they came here, thought they might end up top 6. It hasn't happened and with hindsight maybe they took advantage of our tiredness whilst we were still in the midst of European ambitions. Tough game, would take a draw.

It's fair to say that Goodison Park, over the last twenty years or so, has been about as lucky for us as SMS/The Dell have been for Newcastle. You could argue we are overdue a win up there, but we will have to earn it with a decent performance.

Everton are very inconsistent and have badly under-performed this season. I know a few Everton fans, and there are rumblings of unhappiness in the club with Martinez over his continuous attempts to gloss over their failings and present an 'everything is rosy' image. If they don't win the FA cup (and perhaps even if they do) then I fully expect him to be shown the door at the end of the season, especially with their billionaire investor coming in.

I think the key to us getting a win is to get at them early and get the crowd on their backs a bit.

If Everton lose away at Palace mid-week, they'll be bottom five come Saturday. I'd imagine the crowd may not be best pleased with their current standing, so if we get off to a good start we could properly rachet up the pressure on Martinez.

And rightly so - where they are now is atrocious for a team with a thirty million quid striker on the books. He needs a decent end to the season or he is out the door - he's been "given time" to use the magic phrase and they've got worse and worse.

Best team I've seen at SMS this season they smashed us that day. Cedric got a great big "welcome to the PL" from Lukaku that day. But since then they have become very average I think we can get a result against a team that can't defend for errr toffee.

VVD wasn't playing that day. Physically he's more than a match for Lukaku.

Despite the fact Everton are out of form, have one of the worst home records in the division, are playing midweek away to Palace on Wednesday night and have the distraction of the FA Cup semi final the following week every Saints fan should prepare themselves for a defeat in this one, over the years we just do not perform at Goodison so it is better to go there with the lowest possible expectations. (i notice there are plenty of tickets left in the away end for this one despite other aways selling quickly - looks like most fans are opting for a visit to Villa instead)

I remember the Kevin Davies wonder goal in about 2000 and also winning there 1-0 in 1992 Cockerill scored i think , other than that about 20 forgettable games.

Lukaku is bound to score as well.

Looking at the table i can see Liverpool getting something at Bournemouth, Man Utd will win at home to Villa, West Ham have a tough trip to Leicester , important for us to get something to stay in contention for the top 7.

There's also the small matter of the Merseyside derby after us on Wed 20th Apr and before their FA Cup match with either the Hammers or Man U. If there was ever a good time to play them then this is it. Hopefully driving my two Everton season ticket holding step-sons home post match will be a smug affair...for me!

If we are to win at Goodison this is the year to do it. Everton are having a very poor season by their standards and with the players they have at hand. Lukaku is most obviously the biggest threat, although their defence is weak enough to counter act this if our attacking players are up for the task. I'm going to say we'll actually win this one and that we should. 0-2 is my prediction.

1997/8, I remember it well, because I know who I celebrated it with (and how). Although in hindsight she was a Liverpool fan...

Just looked it up - 2nd Nov 1997.

I remember the game well and recall feeling very privileged to be in the away end that day, our away support was bad enough in those days but due to being live on sky on a Sunday I don't think we had more than 250 fans there as even then Goodison was a ground we 'always lost at' . Think we might have also won at Anfield that season .

-----------Forster

Martina VVD Fonte Bertrand

----Wanyama Clasie

Mane---- Davis --------Long

-----------Pelle

Harsh on Tadic, but feel we need another body in the middle on Sat.

Can't see Davis being fit, he's meant to be out for 2-3 weeks with that ankle injury and it's not even a week yet.

Obviously 3 points please however..... I have to echo what others have been saying - we just don't ever seem to get anything up there. Ron isn't going to give up though so possibly he'll pull something out of the bag.

J Rod coming on to score would be fantastic.

Exactly.. Martinez is going to have to do some pretty serious player management and prioritize effort.

Sat 9/4 - Watford D (1-1)

Wed 13/4 - Palace

Sat 16/4 - Saints

Wed 20/4 - Merseyside Derby

Sat 23/4 - FA Cup Semis

that is packed! If they win on Wednesday and are on 42 points, do they rest players against us in preparation for the Derby and the FA Cup?

A few people have made somewhat pessimistic suggestions that because we have lost at Goodison in the past, we will struggle to win or draw this week-end. Part of being a Saints’ fan can be to look on the black side but being logical about this, past results have no bearing on this match. We are 7 places above Everton in the table and we are better than them on current from so this is an eminently winnable game.

Going back to the use of past results as a guide, back in the 1990s, my son who was 16 at the time, travelled up from here to Liverpool with a group of Everton Fans. He said that they were all kind to him as a Saints’ supporter because they expected to thrash us. The previous year, 1996, they had won their home match against Southampton by 7-1. Although we had managed a draw when they came to The Dell he said that on the way up they were extremely confident of giving us another thrashing. He enjoyed the train ride home, after we won up there by 2-0, the goals scored by Matt Le Tissier and Kevin Davies. All goes to show that previous season’s results just don’t come into it.
