St Lej Posted 8 April, 2016 Share Posted 8 April, 2016 I think that goal in the 2011 Asia cup final got a lot of people very excited and enhanced our expectations of him , thus buying him a lot of leeway for picking up constant niggles and generally being a bit turd. A classic case of a player who was all fart and no ****. Over-hyped to the max by various local media , but actually wasn't very good.

david in sweden Posted 9 April, 2016 Share Posted 9 April, 2016 (edited) Strange thread? ...so many people are quick to judge players in their first season, and often before they've had a chance to settle in. Tadanari Lee was such a player. I can think of several contributors on here who condemned Sadio Mane (..worse than Ali Dia )..said one, early on in his first season. ..and Shane Long (get rid of and try to get money back)....when they arrived. Noted that RK recently said that Long " was a bargain at only £12 million." He made barely a dozen starts before being crocked, but the You Tube clip Tadanari LEE 2011-12 shows a bit of action from just a few of the televised games. Seemed to me, he had quite a bit of pace, and more than a little skill.. I counted 3 assists as well as that spectacular goal (v.Derby) seen in the first 20 seconds. We'll never know what Lee may have achieved had he stayed, but the injury he sustained certainly put pay to any thoughts of a successful Prem. career. beatlesaint Posted 9 April, 2016 Share Posted 9 April, 2016 To answer your question seriously I dont believe he was our most overrated player ever. To me he looked quite useful, i know everyone talks about the goal against Derby as his finest moment but I remember his contribution against Barnsley the same season. Then he got injured, dropped out of favour and that was that. Who knows what might have happened but for that injury. Shame really.

Has he even made an appearance under RonK? With Shane Long out last week, it was the ideal time to play him. Alas, Ronko obviously didn't see it that way. A shame, a real shame. Joneth Posted 9 April, 2016 Share Posted 9 April, 2016 I didn't realise he was still here to be honest. Did he sign on a 5 year deal or something? Much rather see the youth players get an opportunity ahead of a player who other than a handful of bright games about 4 years ago has effectively stolen a living. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk It's a real shame he has to sit in the Staplewood Cafe preparing tea for the players instead of training! Bloody Cortese signing! In reality, I don't think he was overrated at all. His goal against Derby was good, and I think I just remember fans being genuinely pleased for him when he scored; however, he also had several contributions later on which were pretty important. Someone mentioned that Barnsley game, another was the Leeds game (1-0) when he assisted Rickie with a lovely cushioned header across goal for Lambert to smash home. He was actually quite a smart player, his runs were normally fast, on-side and direct...we just lacked the final ball to find him. He was also a hard worker. He tracked back alot and did alot of covering for players out of position. Not quite sure why this thread had emerged, but it provided a nice trip down memory lane.. Faz Posted 9 April, 2016 Share Posted 9 April, 2016 Was he rated that highly? I thought he was alright, needed more luck with injuries but probably could have been a really good championship striker. bpsaint Posted 9 April, 2016 Share Posted 9 April, 2016 To me Tadanari Lee was signed more so to get the club some exposure in the Far East more than for his football ability. Was an OK player but clearly didn't suit the English game. Certainly not our most overrated player though, Gaston and Osvsldo are way ahead on that front. Dark Munster Posted 9 April, 2016 Share Posted 9 April, 2016 I think there is a misunderstanding of the term overrated. It means an ordinary player who is/was widely rated by many. Gaston and that head-butting shit, for example, weren't overrated, simply because most of us never rated either of them. Likewise Mr. Lee. My nomination for the most overrated is mistress Oakley. CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 10 April, 2016 Share Posted 10 April, 2016 Never going to beat Gaston Ramirez Aye - the proverbial "next big thing" who soon became a object of small desire. But that Saganowski had about two good games, acquired a dedicated group of fans on here, and then did bugger-all for the rest of his contract here. On the other hand I would say that Michail Antonio was probably one of the most underrated players St Mary's has seen in recent years.
