ART Posted 5 April, 2016 Share Posted 5 April, 2016 Rangers finally clinched promotion back to the Scottish Premiership tonight. If my memory serves me well, Steven David's contract contains a release clause. That is to say, if he so wishes he can return to Rangers on a free. Anyone in the, know who can confirm this. rpb Posted 5 April, 2016 Share Posted 5 April, 2016 Their fans were not very happy about him leaving rationalising that the captain should stay with the sinking ship - I doubt that he would be welcomed back...

I find that very unlikely to be true. Even if it were I'd struggle to see why he'd want to go back, plus Rangers wouldn't be able to offer him wages remotely close to what he is on at Saints. We did them a favour by even paying them a fee. There is no way we agreed that. Box of frogs.

ErwinK1961 Posted 6 April, 2016 Share Posted 6 April, 2016 (edited) I'm sure I read somewhere when he joined that he'd like to go back there at the end of his career. Absolutely no way we'd put a clause in a contract saying he could leave on a free. Edited 6 April, 2016 by ErwinK1961

Professor Posted 6 April, 2016 Share Posted 6 April, 2016 Hampshire is such an awful place to live, what with the climate, the miserable countryside, the crime rate, drunks spilling out of town centre pubs and the aggressive attitude amongst some of the locals. Why would Steven Davis want to remain here when he could be living in Glasgow?

A god fried who's a Rangers supporter says, although not as welcome among many Rangers fans, others would see his return positive in the light of his Northern Ireland connection, and that he is getting closer to maintaining his level of play in the Premier League. I think in the light of information posted Rangers would get first chance should we decide to sell him and that a fee could be expected.
bazza Posted 6 April, 2016 Share Posted 6 April, 2016 A return to Ibrox for Davo would be controversial to say the least. There's no way rangers could compete financially for his services either these days. It isn't going to happen.

In light of having actually read the article, it says nothing whatsoever about the "release clause" you initially mooted. Glad you put "I think" in front of it. You think wrong. Davis may choose to return to Rangers, but there's nothing at all been mentioned in that article, or anywhere else, about his contract saying either that he has to go back there or that we have to sell him, both of which would be outcomes of a release clause - that clearly doesn't exist. As for the article, the most it commits to is Davis "going back as a fan first, then POSSIBLY as a player later". If they knew of a clause they wouldn't be faffing about saying "possibly". Fan The Flames Posted 8 April, 2016 Share Posted 8 April, 2016 Glasgow is a great city, I used to go up there a bit when I knew people there. Anyone that thinks it's like the stereotype hasn't been there. I've been to a few Old Firm games and they lived up the the stereotype, which was nice. The9 Posted 8 April, 2016 Share Posted 8 April, 2016 I only ever saw him play in the Championship but I didn't think he was THAT bad. He was comically ineffective in the Premier League. You know when you're about 6 and you try to do a skill trick to beat your dad and he just laughs and takes the ball away? Like that. He once did a shimmy against Stephane Henchoz on the wing and Henchoz literally waited for him to finish sodding about and then just ran off up the pitch with the ball.
