how do you know how much it is going to cost? does the app give you an agreed price up front or is it an estimate?

Yeah the app gives you an estimate of what it will cost say £6-£10 (no higher then the top price)

Used Uber to go to Bishops Waltham from Thornhill yesterday afternoon. Usually £20 (£18ish+tip) but 3 minute wait for an Uber and a fare of £12.80. Living out in the sticks but spending a fair bit of time in Southampton means this will save us a fair few quid, not to mention having to restrict ourselves to certain companies that didn't see driving out to BW as a "dead fare".

Presumably you'd struggle to get an Uber to start a journey out there, though?

Yes, no chance of Uber operating out here for a good few years yet I expect. But helps (amongst other times but decent example anyway) for football home games, last bus back from town is about 6pm, getting in is easy enough (lift, bus, train rom Botley etc) but now I can have a few beers after and get home relatively cheaply and without having to book ages in advance for one of the local firms out here to collect me (a lot of City firms don't like driving out my way as it's a dead fare, which I fully understand to be honest).

Searching through Canadian news sites (looking for the threesome scandal) and saw that there has been a huge council meeting after Ottawa have just legalised Uber. 2000 taxi driers up in arms and Uber will continue to operate illegally until September.

Did you find out who they are?... The threesome I mean.

No are you going tell us ?

OK, just googled it and found it within about 15 seconds. Not all that exciting really, don't know what all the fuss is about. If they hadn't bothered with the super injunction, no one would give a ****.

No because I doubt Steve wants it on this forum.

Put a basic search into twitter (celeb injunction threesome etc) and it's there pretty obviously.

And then you can tell everybody.

Anyone use uber much , any taxi drivers seen a shift in customers etc

They're struggling to get drivers. Partly because any driver who does a small amount of research will find out what they're all about - and then wouldn't go anywhere near them. Their business model is awful for drivers. It goes something like: Take on as many cars and drivers as possible; use lies/promises of earning potential; omit to tell drivers that they won't limit vehicle numbers, regardless of whether there is enough work; push their affiliated vehicle leading/finance schemes to as many people who can't actually afford or otherwise obtain credit; when they have saturated an area with vehicles, then cut fares and increase commission (knowing too many drivers are tied in to their finance agreements to leave); contribute to take off 25-30% of every fare, while drivers are forced to work 70-80hrs a week to cover their costs and net minimum wage, thus putting themselves and passengers at risk; siphon off most of their commission earnings as 'royalty payments' to their holding company to tax havens and pay little or no tax in this country.

It also helps that, for once, all of the major taxi and private hire firms in Southampton have stuck together - barring drivers from working for Uber whilst on their books; and warning that if drivers leave to join Uber, they will not be allowed back to the other companies.

Basically, any driver who is foolish enough to jump ship with or without understanding what they are letting themselves in for, deserves all that Uber do to them.

Who's the actor that screwed Wayne Rooneys hooker?

Not sure. But it appears Uber in the MAIN, are in a DOWN TURN with their efforts to get up and running. Need a HUGE effort to make it a success
