david in sweden Posted 13 March, 2016 Share Posted 13 March, 2016 In bygone years, many of us look to the media to keep us informed of ....the news......in many issues. Of course politics and lobbying can " shape" the news output to some extent, but somewhere the truth is there ......between the lines.. ..so consider the comment today from Graziano Pelle...who said ..he likes it at Saints. He has no intention of seeking a move, (back to Italy)...and looks forward to staying at SMS. All those stories of a summer move (he says)....are just media invention..... and we all thought he was on the way out after the Euros. The Media today is ..in general. .an absolute disgrace and many " so-called journalists / football experts " are no more than crystal-gazing and spreading lies. It seems that some of them only live by the maxim that it is OK to print.... " lies, and dam* lies " .....as long as it gets " a headline " In any other branch of business, they could be sued and pay damages to the " injured parties " they abuse in print. It also seems that a % of the fan base have lost faith in Pelle, (who has also had injury problems to contend with) and started to condemn him and see him departing in the summer. Graziano, (like Koeman) has another year left on their contracts and the thought that either of them might leave in the summer..will continue to make headlines - even if there isn't a iota of truth in either story ... What was the old phrase? - PUBLISH AND BE DAM*ED .....(I wish some of them would!)
Saint86 Posted 13 March, 2016 Share Posted 13 March, 2016 I don't care about the press. I was annoyed in someways that Pelle got 2 goals today because Koeman already has a weakness when it comes to him and this will just encourage him to play him more. He is lazy, inconsistent and generally slows down our play, gives away possession and wastes opportunities. Don't get me wrong, he can play really well from time to time and score some cracking goals. QPR Scissor kick, chelsea away this year, our second today etc... But he is a confidence player that is just as likely to hit the corner flag as he is to score most of the time. As for his laziness, it was still evident today even though he was having a good game. 2 passes before stokes goal, the ball is cleared out of the area and Pelle is the closing player. As soon as it goes to Imbulla who is immediately in front of him he stops, stands, makes a point of standing as if to expect someone else to close him down / push up, and then refuses to go the extra 2m and stop the pass.... a couple of passes later they score. All he had to do was press and that goal would not have happened. Against Chelsea at home, he gives the ball away and puts us under pressure with his ridiculous flicks and is directly responsible for a goal as a result. No amount of days like today make him worth starting atm, Long is better and Austin is more dangerous when fit. Pelle has been a good servant for the club, and as I said he can have great days, but we are team built around a solid core and then fast hard working attackers that create chances for each other... this is not Pelle. I agree that the media destabilise players and clubs printing stories. Whether that is intentional or as a bi-product you'll have to decide alone. Quite. Former Netherlands and Barcelona captain and Champions League winner Ronald Koeman ought to listen to the opinions of nobodies on this forum far more. hasper57saint Posted 13 March, 2016 Share Posted 13 March, 2016 A lot of these 'Sports Journoes' don't even go to a match yet report it as if they had. They just pass their stories to each other and as long as there is a marginal difference the papers don't seem to care.Last Sunday's report on Saints v Sunderland contained half a column inch on Saints and all the rest on Fat Sam. I won't even comment on Darren Lewis!!

angelman Posted 13 March, 2016 Share Posted 13 March, 2016 Pelle lazy? He covers a lot of the pitch, harries defenders and goalkeepers. Often tracks all the way back into the box.
angelman Posted 13 March, 2016 Share Posted 13 March, 2016 Wish the press gave more coverage to teams like us. I get Mail online as the app works. It's a **** publication. We aren't even in today's sports page. We barely got mentioned yesterday. No mention of dodgy red or penalty. No wheeling out of ex-refs to give their opinion. If it was a big club then there would be pages and pages. So through the press, big clubs get the exposure and therefore appeal to new supporters. Fair enough as papers are commercial so have to appeal to the biggest audience. But they take it to extreme.
