Saints Transfers Thread - Deadline Day

he may have done. although, that is pretty rare. He could have got swine flu and been hospitalised.

but Mane in our side is a better one than one with out him.

He could have been as good as Beattie in 2004 when he didn't want to be here, or Rasiak in League 1, or David Speedie, Wanyama in last years Europa league. You get the idea. Well, everyone else does anyway.

Did we have to sell our players so quickly?

Yes, Exactly.

Leave it late, maximise profit. Sell early, no competition. Weird.

Now we are wait, can't sign anyone, don't want to pay the going rate, can't sign anyone.

We sold too early, too readily. Now need to pay a premium to get anyone. To me, crap planning. In demand product, hold on to it.

We need to be hard arsed about things. Mane is a player well worth his price tag. Liverpool ultimately have a bargain, even at £30 million. Game changer was Mane. Redmond will get there, will take several years.

Next year it will be vvd. Long contracts haha. He will be gone, we all know it, and he is better by far than 42 million Stones. £50 million or no deal.

But no. We will roll over first week and sell. Pi**es me off how soft we are selling. Get some balls les. We have the product they all want. Play hard ball, or forget it. Dare I say it as per stones and lukaku. Pay up or F off ?

You should apply for the Chairmanship of Juventus. Those poor deluded fools p*ssing away their best asset for a meagre £86m. If only they'd left it to 9pm on deadline day, they could have got £200m for Pogba easily.

For me we're still two players off a really good team and an improved one on last year.

Austin

Tadic - NEW - Redmond

Hojbjerg - NEW

Bertrand - Fonte - van Dijk - Cedric

Forster

McCarthy, Yoshida, Pied, Romeu, Clasie, Rodriguez, Long

Targett, Gardos, Reed, Ward-Prowse, Davis

Such a shame that the DM isn't seemingly going to happen, I think we could get by with just a #10 but it'd be disappointing.

Shame we don't play that system.

Don't really see the point on holding on to Mane and Pelle, apart to stop a bit of moaning on this forum.

If we'd held on to them and sold them on deadline day there'd be effing hell to pay on here.

But we could have held on till January at least to give our season an early boost

Again spot on. I wasn't aware of the site and thanks for the link. Anyone who hasn't read it should take a look - our fans must understand that we can only pay so much in wages, and can't even pay as much as Norwich!

Happy to provide. Wish the club would just tell us it officially as sure the majority of us would understand it and then the pressure would be on the FA to change the rules, not the club to spend what they can't. Kat isn't taking any money out. We've a debt that needs to be paid for Osvaldo, but everything is manageable. We have money to spend, but we're limited on the wages we can offer.

There is some myth that has grown that he bedwetter say want the club to spend hundreds of millions on wages or signings?

Where are people saying that?

If the ITKs/papers are to be believed we have the ability to have a higher wage bill within FFP currently as we have just offered Fonte a pay rise...we have also had a bid turned down for another player - therefore have enough for that individuals wages and a rumoured second signing so we have the money for that within FFP rules.

Based upon those FFP is not currently restricting us?

So lets test that theory. Fonte's pay rise is budgeted. We can afford it. If he stays, I don't reckon we'll get a number 10 until Jan.

If he goes, then we have a chance to redistribute wages, which could result in more players.

The transfer fees are not the issue, its the wage limit. We're steadily increasing this and its the right way to do it. Not that I think we would spend over £16mil anyway. And there is nothing wrong with that.

Pot & kettle, Mr 'are I case of' warrior!

So everything is rosy with the team in your eyes then, 1 point from 2 games is ok with you?

Sorry for the whole grammar police think. I was a bit sloshed last night! Although my mistake was clearly just a typo.

Worth pointing out we had 1 point from 2 games last season and the season before.

Gonna create my own rumour since there is none about.

We should be interested in Nabil Fekir from Lyon who is 23yr's old, is an attacking midfielder in a team who already play's in the diamond formation.

In his break through season when he played 34 games he got 13 goals and 9 assists and won MOM 7 times.

Did his cruciate last year but has played twice already this season.

There needs to be. Otherwise will be battling relegation. All of the hard work of the last 7 years will just go to waste in one summer.

I am sure we are gambling on staying up but with the knowledge that if we go down we have more than enough to come straight back up.

We have a sustainability policy that will not change.

If you want to say mane was sold too soon then you have to accept that if we'd held on for more money L'pool could have told us to stick it and we got stuck with a player not wanting to play anymore.
well we didn't need the money to spend as its still in the bank.

Well if we still owe money for Osvaldo then the club is not being run as well as people tell us it is

Could this be Guan's "left sided attacker" that fell through?

Yeah, okay then.

We have a great start to the season, let's say we're in sixth again and still in Europa and then we sell Mane on January 31st.

The general forum reaction would be "oh well, fair enough, he gave our season an early boost", or, possibly, a meltdown the same as when we sold him. Which do you think?

If we do end up selling Fonte is he currently giving us an early season boost or is the whole thing just bloody annoyance dragging on and poisoning our season?

In the real world, the pro's and con's of decisons aren't measured by the reaction of a couple of hundred fans on a forum. Mane being sold so early in the window is dissapointing on the basis that we haven't replaced him even though the season has started.

In the clubs eyes we have replaced him. Redmond is his replacement.

Yeah, I know. Was kinda entirely the point of my post.

I think we need at least 1 more high energy/stamina plate for the "shuttle runner" position of the diamond. Davis is well suited to one side, but looked a bit off his usual standard against man u. I can't think of anyone else in the current squad who really fits this role. Up front we already have 2 pacey players in long and redmond, and if j rod returns up to his previous standard then he is perfect for this role; thus I'm not expecting anyone else up front. We need someone creative and skilful to compete with tadic at the tip of the diamond, so I'd like to see the club aquire someone to fit this role.
