Everton's a massive step backwards to him imo, sort of him admitting he's not very good and just convenient money move. He should either stick it out at Utd or move abroad if a top premier club won't take him.

doddisalegend Posted 30 June, 2016 Share Posted 30 June, 2016 The club should definitely try for Morgan if Man U don't want him but it would be understandable if he thought coming back here was a failure. Having said that his desire to play european football isn't likely to be well served by going to Everton. Spurs would probably be his choice but Victor beat him to it. Hate to say it but I could see him at Liverpool.

Not many people are up for doing that, least of all a professional footballer ! I understand that reasoning, but IF he has the choice of basically being told he won't play at Utd or going to some other non-top 4 Premier League team (basically saying Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, City, Spurs won't go for him) then out of the options of say Everton or West Hame why not come back to us? Already held in high regard here, Europa league football, will slot straight into the first team, loved by fans, knows the club and area and presumably liked it. They'll be no mention of failure from our fans, so we can easily nurse his bruised ego. Sure if Liverpool or PSG or Atletico Madrid or something come knocking for him he'll be there, but based on the current rumours I think it's worth a go for us. Ian Rush and Mark Hughes quite successfully returned after big albeit foreign moves, Zaha is a more recent one of course as well, so is Kaboul and Defoe both returning to Spurs. ratio_decidendi Posted 30 June, 2016 Share Posted 30 June, 2016 I'd take Morgan back in a heartbeat, and without a doubt he'd be able to start in the team straight of the bat. He was a positive influence whilst here, and ability wise is a class above Clasie and Romeu (as they currently are in their own development). However, would he want to return (should the board make him the offer)? Only he can decide that. As others have mentioned, there's examples of similar players returning to home clubs and thriving. But, at the same time, would he want to be seen as a failure after only one season at Manchester United? Indeed, would he even regard returning to Saints as a failure in his career? We simply don't know his personal attitude to it all. So, rather than speculate, let's move onto links which are slightly more concrete. (Although if I was to speculate, I don't think he'd want a return here, nor do I think the board would want him back.)
stu0x Posted 30 June, 2016 Share Posted 30 June, 2016 Don't get the obsession with re-signing ex players. Its just nostalgia at work. They've moved on and so should we. Never go back. It makes us look weak and desperate, like keeping your ex-girlfriends number in your phone 'just in case'. Jai27 Posted 30 June, 2016 Share Posted 30 June, 2016 Signing Lambert would be nostalgia. Signing Chamberlain, Walcott or Schneiderlin would be a huge improvement to our team. Spot on. All three are players of huge talent and would be fantastic additions. Walcott especially if he stays fit and is starting every week. Obviously the issue which we couldn't get past are the wages though... Player weekly wages Walcott: 110,000 Chamberlain: 65,000 Schneiderlin: 100,000 Maybe we could just about afford Chamberlain at a push...

They'd all probably take a pay cuts I reckon, certainly to 're-build' their careers and we must have been offering mane at least £70-80k to stay. Remember Gaston's, Osvaldo's, Mane's and Wanyamas wages have just gone and they were probably our highest earners before the likes of VVD and Forster signed new deals. We also have to be realistic, the amount of Premier league TV money, top half clubs will be offering their top players close to the £100k a week. Failure to qualify for the CL apparently. So anyone on say 100K a week will only get 75K, then again I'm sure it's not quite as straightforward as that, the percentage cut is real though. tajjuk Posted 30 June, 2016 Share Posted 30 June, 2016 Ask any footballer if he wants to lose a million a year and see what he says. £500k tax man will take pretty much half and depends if they want to be an actual footballer and you know play some games of football. Depends what your motivation is. I'd personally rather play for a club that wants me, where I'd be a fan favourite, playing ever week and living in one of the nicest parts of the country and still get £80k a week, over sitting on an extra £500k to sit on the bench or play for the reserves in Manchester. There is also future earnings to think about, he's only 26 dropping out not doing anything at Utd for a year or two will hurt his earnings in the long run. I would think it extremely unlikely, what has Gonalons to gain by leaving Lyon ? He's already amongst the highest paid footballers in France,in fact I might think he's way beyond our salary range, we could have kept Victor for that sort of money. They're back in the Champion's League and will be playing in front of 60,000 or so at home. Then again nothing is impossible I suppose.

Window Cleaner Posted 30 June, 2016 Share Posted 30 June, 2016 Out of interest, how is it he has so few caps for France? It seems strange that he is not the heartbeat of the French midfield? Because he's not a Deschamps type of player, he also has off days when he's pretty crap. He was a regular up until about the start of 2014 but dropped out of the side with the emergence of Morgan, Guilavogui, Kondogbia etc and above all the return of his favourite Diarra.Of these none are real regulars any more except for Diarra who he picked for the original Euro 23 even though he'd been on one leg for months. Deschamps has a current fixation on Kanté, next year it will be someone else. As long as he's got Pogba, Diarra and Matuidi the others stand little chance. tajjuk Posted 1 July, 2016 Share Posted 1 July, 2016 Not playing much and dropping out of the french team won't do much for his future earnings. But I can still why he'd want to stay and fight for a place. Right now he's the best CM at utd yet apparently unappreciated. Early last season they wondered why they were suddenly keeping endless clean sheets and praised Smalling's form, but I doubt any Saints fan was surprised. Surely Mourinho isn't stupid enough to overlook his ability? If I were him the first job would be buying a great CM partner for Morgan and building the team from that platform. No I agree with that, for me he is there best midfielder, maybe he didn't hit peak form last season but to write him off after one season seems odd, though Mourinho always has his favourites. If he gets Matic and Pogba in like they are talking about then he'd be down the pecking order. ----------------------------- I like Brady, but he's essentially a left back now isn't he?, arguably that is one of the positions we are strongest, unless of course Bertrand is going................ Also out of those teams listed surely he'd chose Leicester?
