Channon's Sideburns Posted 6 January, 2009 Posted 6 January, 2009 Came across the article written by Simon Jordan (Palace Chairman) regarding the hostility towards Rupey Baby before our 'saviour' Mikey 'Lord Lucan' Wilde gave us our club back..... Then gave it back again...... Never mind...what's done is done - but read Jordan's words and tell me you can't see that although he was new to Football as well when he took over at Palace, he at least UNDERSTANDS HIS 'CUSTOMERS'..... Rupey or your Butler, read and learn how to run a football club whilst keeping the fans happy... http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2006/feb/05/sport.comment1
SaintRobbie Posted 6 January, 2009 Posted 6 January, 2009 Like him or loath him, Jordan's pretty accurate on this assessment.
Dicko Posted 6 January, 2009 Posted 6 January, 2009 I like Simon Jordan, always speaks a lot of sense
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 6 January, 2009 Posted 6 January, 2009 What interested me is the mention of Ron Noades QUOTE- My predecessor at Palace - if you don't count Mark Goldberg, and it's best that way - was Ron Noades. He ran this club as a business. He drove into Palace with limited means and drove out 17 years later with £20m, two golf courses and the freehold of Selhurst Park. He ran the club exceptionally well - Palace's most successful era, with cup finals and fabulous league performances - but because of the divided agenda, the conflict between profit, stability and ambition, the club was held back from hitting the next level. END QUOTE Does any of that ring a bell? Well, we've had a Cup Final!
Big Ron fan Posted 6 January, 2009 Posted 6 January, 2009 I'm biassed because I can't stand Jordan, but if one were to look at it from outside both clubs, wouldn't they point out that Lowe has been far more successful than Jordan in terms of his club's league positions in his tenure? How many Premiership seasons did palace have? I'd suggest more successful in spending money and making sales too, although I might be wrong and that's a more subjective one. Still, seems to me it's just a matter of him seeming better because they're above us right now. Football is a very short term world it seems. I'd be surprised myself if Palace made it up, and amazed if they became a regular premiership side in the next 5 years or so. Plus, it's still the worst stadium I've been to, and I've been to fratton park. Lowe didn't take over a club in administration...he's taking one there! So you are not comparing like with like. For me the most interesting point is his observation (made nearly 3 yeras ago now) that Lowe doesn't have a clue about running a club outside the Premiership. It was the main reason Lowe got booted out in 2006 and it's even more apparent this time round!
Chap in the Chapel Posted 6 January, 2009 Posted 6 January, 2009 Lowe didn't take over a club in administration...he's taking one there! So you are not comparing like with like. It was the main reason Lowe got booted out in 2006 and it's even more apparent this time round! Very true. For 'chequebook manager' read 'Sky-cash chairman'. It's nice to hold the purse tightly when there's lots of money in it, but hold it too tightly and the purse will burst and all the money will drop out. It was the third weekend in January 2006 that we lost 2-0 to Ipswich and the first Lowe out protests really began. Three years on and Doncaster on the 17th is corresponding fixture. Lose to Donny and history may well repeat itself.
Leslie Charteris Posted 6 January, 2009 Posted 6 January, 2009 "If Rupert Lowe got football, got the proles who pay him to watch it, got the reasons why he's unpopular, he wouldn't be in the hole he's in now." Says it all. Rupert Lowe is a bean counter, end of. He never was, is not now and never will be a football man. He is someone who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. There is no hope until he leaves... permanently.

I need to point out that the majority of Saints' 27 years in the top flight were BEFORE LOWE ARRIVED ON HIS CHARIOT. I nearly ****ed myself when you reckon Lowe is better at spending money!!!! - Hmm...Delgado?? It's nothing to do with league position, you've missed the point. It's all to do with Lowe and his ATTITUDE. It's not a class issue....because Lowe HAS NO CLASS.
sadoldgit Posted 6 January, 2009 Posted 6 January, 2009 If Simon Jordan was at this club you lot would be at his throat as much as Lowes!!!
Plumstead_Saint Posted 6 January, 2009 Posted 6 January, 2009 (edited) If Simon Jordan was at this club you lot would be at his throat as much as Lowes!!! If we were in the same position we are now, then yes! But we probably wouldn't be in this mess. Edited 6 January, 2009 by Plumstead_Saint
Crab Lungs Posted 6 January, 2009 Posted 6 January, 2009 A good article, but it doesn't speak for everyone concerned, that's for sure. From an outsider it would be easy to take that as gospel and have everyone believe that RL hasn't done anything good. Regardless, a good read but I bet Jordan isn't so scathing on RL's academy asessment now: After all, he literally blew a fuse about John Bostock's move to Spurs and he's had just as much time to sound out the FA about poaching as RL did back then...
Doctoroncall Posted 6 January, 2009 Posted 6 January, 2009 While in the premier league, RL was a member of the FA committee and sub-committees, SJ wasn't, so could do little to influence the state of affairs with regard to contracts for u17s.
