Shroppie Posted 7 March, 2016 Posted 7 March, 2016 No Jose, no Victor. I'd like to see 3 5 2 Forster Cedric Yoshida VVD Bertrand Targett Romeu Davis Clasie Long Mane/ Pelle Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
SuperSAINT Posted 7 March, 2016 Posted 7 March, 2016 Wish I had any optimism for this one -- I watched the highlights of their game at Stamford Bridge and they looked really impressive. Carved Chelsea apart at times. They really handed us our a$$es at St Mary's too. Will be great to have Shane Long back for this game though. Would bite your hand off for a point.
nta786 Posted 7 March, 2016 Posted 7 March, 2016 No Jose, no Victor. I'd like to see 3 5 2 Forster Cedric Yoshida VVD Bertrand Targett Romeu Davis Clasie Long Mane/ Pelle Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk Agree with this but mane and not pelle please. However i dont think this will happen due to lack of defensive options on bench, so expect 4 at the back with targett and martina as defensive options. A 3412 formation with Tadic behind mane and long would do me nicely too- davis on bench- lets go for it
Saint Garrett Posted 7 March, 2016 Posted 7 March, 2016 --------------Forster Cedric VVD Yoshida Bertrand Targett -------Clasie Romeu Davis ------------Long Mane Hope for the best....
igsey Posted 7 March, 2016 Posted 7 March, 2016 I have a horrible feeling Pelle and Yoshida will start. That's like starting the game 1-0 down with ten men.
doddisalegend Posted 7 March, 2016 Posted 7 March, 2016 I have a horrible feeling Pelle and Yoshida will start. That's like starting the game 1-0 down with ten men. Do we have an other option but to start Yoshida? Only other option is Bertrand/Martina playing as a make shift CB. Similar with Pelle. Unless Long is fit, we play Mane as a lone stiker or we play that academy kid we aren't blessed with options.

Mr Biscuits Posted 7 March, 2016 Posted 7 March, 2016 Back to basics and grind out a result no matter what the team. Everyone needs to step up.

I hope Long is back. If not, stick VvD up top.

Unless Long is fit, we play Mane as a lone stiker or we play that academy kid we aren't blessed with options. It would be quite interesting to see how Bertrand and VVD get on as a CB pairing. Might not be out of the question to try it given that Bertrand has been playing CB in the three. In fact, Stoke's main threat is the runners from deep rather than "big" front men who might give Bertrand a hard time. If Walters plays, VVD can handle him, so Bertrand could be an option in the middle of a back four. I'm not sure I would fancy a back 3 whether Fonte in to organise and keep things steady. Seeing as we are not really playing for anything we may as well try things out: --------------------------------Forster------------------------------------ Cedric-------------VVD----------------Bertrand------------------Targett --------------------------------Clasie----------------------------------- -------------------Romeu---------------Davis/JWP----------------------- -------Mane-------------------------------------------Tadic----------- -----------------------------Long/Pelle--------------------------------- .
Lets B Avenue Posted 7 March, 2016 Posted 7 March, 2016 How can we get anything, at what is, apparently, our bogey ground.
Baird of the land Posted 7 March, 2016 Posted 7 March, 2016 Make or break time for this season. This game and Liverpool one will decide if we've got any chance of competing for european places. Can't afford to lose either game. 5-3-2 Forster Soares Yoshida Van Dijk Bertrand Targett Romeu Davis JWP Mane Long

simo Posted 7 March, 2016 Posted 7 March, 2016 Out of the games we have left we only took 4 points in the reverse fixtures , a win would be excellent but would take a point !

Jack Posted 7 March, 2016 Posted 7 March, 2016 Stoke are excellent value at 19/10 with William Hill. They've got 3 wins and a draw from the last 4, we look shocking and are missing key players. Can only see one result here.
DT Posted 7 March, 2016 Posted 7 March, 2016 All i can say is eek. No Pelle please, go all out attack as we have no defence.
SaintTex Posted 7 March, 2016 Posted 7 March, 2016 I don't think we stick with the 3 CB formation considering we are losing one of our starting CBs. Back to basics. --------------------------------Forster------------------------------------- Cedric-------------VVD----------------Bertrand------------------Targett -------------------Romeu---------------Clasie---------------------------- ---------Mane----------------Davis-----------------Tadic---------------- -------------------------------Long----------------------------------------

Toomer Posted 7 March, 2016 Posted 7 March, 2016 Expect the worst might get the best or am I dreaming.
Bobbyboy Posted 7 March, 2016 Posted 7 March, 2016 If our defence gets any thinner on the ground we may end up seeing Vokens on the bench!
Pamplemousse Posted 7 March, 2016 Posted 7 March, 2016 Stoke are a weird one. They do well away but at home they have been well beaten for instance against Everton and only got narrow victories against Newcastle and Aston Villa. Nevertheless, I would be extremely happy with a point. A loss would be a bad result, we can't afford for the teams around us to gain any more ground than they already have, if we are serious about Europe.
Pamplemousse Posted 7 March, 2016 Posted 7 March, 2016 The other worrying thing is that we haven't scored more than once in a match since January
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 8 March, 2016 Posted 8 March, 2016 We need to win this one to get the wagon rolling again. We can make Europe this season again. Lose this one and it's all over. I think we are playing very badly right now and Stoke are strong at home. So on the basis that we are starting with very low expectations, Saints to win 2-0, just because that's what we do.
Dalek2003 Posted 8 March, 2016 Posted 8 March, 2016 Stoke are a team with a fine Pedigree as I've said before. They had a dip in the 80's and 90's but they seem to heve cemented themselves as a solid Premier league team. Proper football fans, none of your prawn cocktail brigade. We must be underdogs, a draw would be a great result, but please no more injures.
david in sweden Posted 8 March, 2016 Posted 8 March, 2016 maybe ....we might get a point......if we're lucky enough to have " the wind blowing in the right direction ", .....but anything less than a convincing win won't disguise the fact that the last three games have cost us a Euro place next season, and maybe? .... a manager who will have to content himself with another season of mediocre, mid-table football .....until his contract runs out in 2017
DT Posted 8 March, 2016 Posted 8 March, 2016 I can't help but suspect that one of the reasons for our slump in form is that Ron has told the board that he's off, and that has got through to the players. Source: absolutely none.

Source: absolutely none. Off where? The list of clubs that would be a more attractive opportunity than Saints is relatively tiny. Koeman would face fierce competition for any of those roles. You say "slump in form", but we've gone through spells of both good and bad runs throughout the season. Go back a mere three games and we were on a 6 match unbeaten run, top of the form table, no goals conceded. Before that we had a long poor run, before that a long good run.

Just feels like a slump given how bad we were in the last two especially. Thought we were pretty good in parts against Chelsea and were undone by a blue ref. As to Koeman I think he'd jump at the chance of Holland or perhaps Spurs when someone poaches Poch. Or even Arsenal if Wenger throws the towel in finally. You never know.
Dalek2003 Posted 8 March, 2016 Posted 8 March, 2016 Could both teams play in their home kits, just to wind up the media and commentators ?
Saint Fan CaM Posted 9 March, 2016 Posted 9 March, 2016 Well I see nothing more than a loss in this game. No strike force of any substance, an impotent midfield and a leaky defence that includes the opposition talisman Yoshida (a shame really - I like the guy but every game he plays includes a horrible mistake and gifted goal. 2-0 Stoke...if we're lucky.
Pamplemousse Posted 9 March, 2016 Posted 9 March, 2016 http://oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/254932/southampton-game They seem fairly optimistic
captainchris Posted 9 March, 2016 Posted 9 March, 2016 Good to see Pelle standing still ball watching in training too! I thought he must be a world beater in training to get automatic selection every week after such atrocious performances .... ;-) Mane and Long please.... I suspect his name is already on the team sheet again this week ....

nta786 Posted 9 March, 2016 Posted 9 March, 2016 http://oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/254932/southampton-game They seem fairly optimistic I'd say we were optimistic for home game, so sounds about right. If i were a Stoke fan I'd expect to beat us too on current form.
JRM Posted 9 March, 2016 Posted 9 March, 2016 http://oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/254932/southampton-game They seem fairly optimistic They do sound confident, on a good run with important players returning to fitness shawcross will be a boost for them if passed fit. I think 1-0 or 2-1 defeat
doddisalegend Posted 9 March, 2016 Posted 9 March, 2016 http://oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/254932/southampton-game They seem fairly optimistic Saints and Stoke two pretty evenly matched mid table sides with inconsistent form through out the season means the home fans are normally the optimistic ones.
Verbal Kint Posted 9 March, 2016 Posted 9 March, 2016 They struggle to score goals and with Long back I think we'll cause them problems. 1-1 draw

fanimal Posted 9 March, 2016 Posted 9 March, 2016 How about Martina alongside VVD and Ryan in a bcd 3 with Cedric and Matt T keeping Shackeerie and Bun head at bay? Then Romeu, davis, Clasie with Long and Mane up front. Best team by far….. No Pelle or Yoshida to moan and groan at or worry about..

I see, so your passion is slagging off players and the manager and that is ok? Nice hobby. Perhaps you should take up gardening too? I suspect that if that had been Pelle getting tackled in the pictures and not JRod you would have a sarcastic comment for that. All you do is find a reason to slag off Koeman or certain players. Is it really that hard to be passionate about the positives and not just the negatives?
