Lallana's Left Peg Posted 9 March, 2016 Share Posted 9 March, 2016 To echo the comments of others it appears he has a lot of technical ability as a footballer but unfortunately his physical attributes severely impact his ability to show them in English football. It's not just the physicality of it but also the speed at which the game is played. Add to that he doesn't appear to have a natural position where he fits in our team I imagine at £5m he was a value signing but it just hasn't worked out thus far. I'm increasingly weary of us signing small players who aren't physically robust. The way the game is evolving in this country it will be hard to find ways to play small players who aren't strong or robust.
derry Posted 9 March, 2016 Share Posted 9 March, 2016 I question his mental approach, he just doesn't appear to have that steely determination to overcome. I don't believe that he doesn't have the physical strength to resist challenges. for me he doesn't have the attitude to relish and win the physical challenges. I saw him play for the U21s and he didn't look like he was an international either with superior touch or the ability to be better than development players. Nobody gets a free ride, he has to perform or be shipped out.
david in sweden Posted 13 March, 2016 Share Posted 13 March, 2016 He's clearly only bench-warming this season ATM... ...with Long and Pelle up front, Jay Rod nearing return and Charlie Austin putting in a few minutes by the end of the season, Juanmi should play out the season in the U21's not as a punishment, but an opportunity to show what he can do. If he can't cut it at that lower level.....then we have a real problem on our hands.
