Defoe put Allardyce's men in the lead in the 85th, but VVD pops up with a 93rd minute goal to level it. Phew...

 

 

Straight red for José Fonte, suspended now.

Do they spend the week beating the confidence out of the players or something?

 

Good effort to get something out of that in the end but not a very satisfactory performance overall.

Absolute ****. Fonte out for a game now as well. Pelle was awful, as was Tadic. What does Juanmi even do?

Appalling performance. No passing ability, not much fight, poor tactics from Koeman and Pelle stays on for 90 minutes when my fridge could have played better. Yoshida in defence against Liverpool? Eek.

Thought red was harsh, but bad defending from Saints to put themselves in that situation.

Yoshida terrible for their goal. Guy has had an awful season by and large.

Pretty inspipid display. Think we may end up keepinbg hold of Mane because he's playing so poorly.

Pelle thought worked hard with awful service.

It's only one match for a professional foul isn't it? I thought it was only 3 games for serious foul or violent conduct.

 

Anyway, what an utterly crap performance. What is it with Pelle? How can a player look so good in the early stages of a season and then go on to be such utter turd for the rest of it?

 

As for Mane - he's just a waste of a shirt at the moment. Can't control the ball or even be bothered to make the runs he used to make. We would honestly be better off playing one of the U-18s.

 

Once again it falls to a defensive player to provide the finish with all of our attackers firing blanks for the umpteenth time this season.

 

I really hope Long and Austin are back soon. We will struggle to score more than 10 more goals this season at this rate.

Only a 1 game ban isn't it? It was a goal scoring chance stopping red not a violent conduct one.

Pretty abject, apart from a very crisp finish at the death. If you put VVD in central midfield or up front he'd probably be our best player in those positions too. Says a lot about his talent, and a lot about the rest of the squad.

Wasn't harsh, it's the standard punishment for dragging back a player who's through on goal.

Surely to god all you Yoshi supporters have had enough now? He's a liability. 11 men, 10 men, it doesn't matter. He makes individual mistakes game after game. He shouldn't be in the premier league let alone playing for us. Does my head in.

Yes it was crap. You do know we scored at the death because Pelle played a smart ball out to Bertrand who then fed Tadic yes?

Pelle who also fed Tadic earlier in the game who forced Mannone into a save.

Pelle who fed Martina late in the game who forced Mannone into a save.

 

I'm happy to admit he's been well below par for quite a while. But there are 9 other men out there not exactly setting the world on fire.

Most frustrating thing for me is that we know we can play SO much better than the dross we've served up the last two games. We've thrown away a strong position in the league with lifeless performances and dented our goal difference.

Positives were Bertrand, VVD and Romeu who I'm liking more every time I see him.

Why don't refs follow the rules for injury time?

 

- Ref decides there will be a minimum of 4 mins injury time.

- van Dijk Goal in 93rd minute

- Saints players celebrate and it takes time until Sunderland restart the game

- Ref blows full-time at 94:08 when Saints were on the attack.

 

Goal in injury time should = longer time... not 8 seconds.

Will ultimately take the point, but we sounded pretty woeful.

 

Thank goodness Shane Long is back for the next game - No surprise that with our attack being so cr*p, we needed a defender to score.

 

Jose will be a miss.

keep selling your quality and the whole thing erodes. It is impossible to keep replacing the best players.

We went from 8th (2013/14) to 7th (2014/15) in the last two seasons.

 

We are currently 8th and only 2 points behind 7th (a team we play next weekend).

Thank God we got a point at the end which should see us safe. Only bright spots were Bertrand, Romeu and VVD, rest were dire. Martina - wtf, shades of Olivier Bernard in his positioning.

 

Big clear out needed this summer and £30m net spend please board with the new TV deal.

 

Manager position bound to be under review as clearly tensions behind the scenes. I like Ron but only 1 year left on deal and the apathy in the last 2 games has been a major concern.

Great to get the late equaliser. Not Saints best performance but Romeu in mid-field was superb and VVD outstanding all day. I thought Mane had a bright second half and can't understand the negative comments from posters about his game. Pelle on the other hand was awful - he should have made way for Yoshida, not Mane. Bertrand's first half was very good, and although Martina gave the ball away twice in dangerous areas he actually got down the line into attacking areas often; he's not that bad as a fill in for Cedric. The late point makes all the difference to the rest of the weekend.

Not often we come back at the death to save a game, so I suppose we should cherish that.

 

We deserved a draw, but nothing more than that.

 

Where did that form and confidence disappear to?

 

I guess that's what mid table sides do, win a few, lose a few.

Stonewall red for Fonte but he had little choice once Borini was in.

 

Midfield passing was poor most of the game until Romeu decided in the last 10mins to push us on. For most of the game the passing lacked any creativity, Clasie included.

 

Martina was woeful unfortunately. Gave the ball away so many times and isn't PL quality.

 

Said before Chelsea that any less than 4/5 points would be poor from the next three and we got one...such as shame as we had a good chance of 5th/6th with a solid end to the season.

Forster - Made a couple of decent saves, could do little about the goal

 

Martina - Rubbish in both directions

Fonte - Had no choice but to attempt a challenge when he got sent off as the striker was through and Fonte didn't have the pace to catch him

VVD - Good, bailed us out at the end with a decisive finish our front three can seemingly only dream of about right now

Bertrand - Best player first half, faded in the second

 

Romeu - Tried hard, but didn't really dominate the midfield. Not that he had much help.

Clasie - Ineffective off the ball, too slow on it.

Davis - Not at the races today.

 

Tadic - Was not that bad first half, useless in the second until the assist at the death though.

Pelle - Very lucky he was the only fit CF today. The fact that such a player is a strong contender get into Italy's euros squad shows how far their attacking depth has fallen.

Mane - Won't be weeping when he leaves in the summer, likely for an entirely inappropriate amount of money.

 

Subs:

 

Juanmi - Ineffective.

JWP - Barely noticed he was on

Yoshida - Managed to produce the piece of comedy defending that gifted them their goal almost instantly.

hang on!! You were slagging off Pelle in one of your earlier posts!!

 

I said he had a bad game, but a couple of posters slag him off every single post and it's boring. He did some good things but on the whole was bad but people who want to constantly slate him only look at the bad.

We have been very poor against Bournemouth and Sunderland and messed up a winning position versus Chelsea.

 

I expected we would pick up a lot more than 1 point across those games.

 

As did everyone.

 

I think we will be overtaken by Liverpool, Chelsea and Everton before the end of the season and in reality we are a midtable quality team, but had a good chance to finish higher. A week ago we were above West Ham who are now well in the race for 4th.

We just dont have any consistent quality attacking players they are good but not outstanding

 

So top 10 side is OK by me
