Pancake Posted 3 March, 2016 Posted 3 March, 2016 Use whatever we beat them 8-0 with last season- I'd go to 4231 probably. Forster Cedric Fonte VVD Bertrand Romeu Clasie Davis Mane Tadic Pelle (Long depending on fitness) Bench: Stekelenburg, Yoshida, Martina, Targett, JWP, Long/Pelle, Juanmi (if Austin and J Rod are out though) Prediction: 2-1... with Mane and Clasie to get his first, Defoe to pull one back keep the faith! This all the way.
Batman Posted 3 March, 2016 Posted 3 March, 2016 (edited) Austin out for 3-4 weeks Long is a lot better but will miss the weekends game Edited 3 March, 2016 by Batman

Pamplemousse Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 I wonder how this Adam Johnson thing will affect Sunderland on Saturday.
scotty Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 I wonder how this Adam Johnson thing will affect Sunderland on Saturday. Can't see why it would affect them at all, apart from not having him available to play.
JRM Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 Fair play to Sunderland selling over 2200 tickets, good numbers to travel such a distance, if we can sell out block 43 it will almost be a sell out http://www.safc.com/news/ticket-news/2016/february/southampton-sold-out

alehouseboys Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 They do get good travelling support but this is the second year running they've done a cheap trip for their fans down here, more than they've brought before. But fairplay to them, that's twice as many as they had at West Ham last weekend. Still only one long trip the other end of the country, we'll probably have 4 to the North East next season.
Saint_Tony Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 Looks like Pelle will be in for this one. Not feeling too confident, can see Sunderland nicking this 1-0 Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk
Shance Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 We have to win this. What is more annoying about anything else lately is that had we picked up a point or three in our last two outings, we'd be in serious touching distance of 4th. Feels like we've seriously missed a trick this year.
Batman Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 On another note See that Roy has said that Rashford could be in contention for the Euro's Is that true???? taking the pish!!!!
Shroppie Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 On another note See that Roy has said that Rashford could be in contention for the Euro's Is that true???? taking the pish!!!! It's simple. Vardy plays for Leicester so not in contention. Kane at Spurs, reasonable chance. Rashford Man U. Must be an obvious choice. Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk

mrfahaji Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 On another note See that Roy has said that Rashford could be in contention for the Euro's Is that true???? taking the pish!!!! When I saw the headline I found it maddening. But if you read the article, it seems like "in contention" has been extrapolated from Roy saying "I won't rule him in or out". That's slightly different to saying he is "in contention". If I turn out to be wrong and he goes to the Euros, then I agree it is a joke. Especially because this year we actually have a batch of good strikers. It's Connor Wickham 2012 all over again.
trousers Posted 4 March, 2016 Author Posted 4 March, 2016 IIRC, Hodgson has described Ward-Prowse as "in contention" before. I also read this morning that Hodgson is keen to take Luke Shaw to the Euros even if he doesn't feature for Man Utd before the end of the season. Would dent Bertrand's chances somewhat.

I mean, England are really struggling for Left Backs at the moment...
Shroppie Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 Bizarre. I mean, England are really struggling for Left Backs at the moment... I refer to my earlier answer. A Man U left back on crutches is still better than any other option. Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk

Seems odd as he has said before that he will only take fit players who are playing for their clubs?
Charlie Wayman Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 Let's start from the premise that Hodgson doesn't have a clue about modern Premier League level football. He is rooted in the past along with his sidekick . Still thinks WBA used to play beautiful football when he was there.

We could start from another premise about roy hodgson, but I've said my piece about that so many times I'm in danger of sounding like dalek banging on about relegation.
DT Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 To be fair Hodgson did quite like us once. Seemed to be at St Mary's every fortnight.
benjii Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 I would go for this line-up: --------------------------------------Forster----------------------------------- Cedric----------------Fonte--------------------Virgil---------------Bertrand ----------------------------Romeu---------Classie---------------------------- -------------------------------------Davis-------------------------------- --------Mane---------------------------------------------Tadic-------------- -----------------------------------Pelle---------------------------------------- Another option would be to have JWP or Davis in Mane's role (particularly as Van Aanholt, Sunderland's left back, is probably one of their best attackers) but it's important for the team that Mane plays himself back into form so I don't want to leave him out. If Pelle is starting, which he obviously will, then the 5-3-2/5-2-3 isn't going to work very well so let's go back to having Tadic and Mane flanking him and allowing Cedric and Bertrand to get past them. Bench: Gazza, Targett, Yoshida, JWP, Juanmi, Reed, [Gallagher?] Gone from a strong bench to a ****e one in no time! Bench:
Chris27687 Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 We always play so badly when Stevie D isn't in the team - finding someone who can do the same job must be #1 priority in the summer as he can't have long left in him.
Shroppie Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 To be fair Hodgson did quite like us once. Seemed to be at St Mary's every fortnight. Only to tell our best players they needed to be at "bigger" clubs. Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk

Finding someone who does a similar job but can shoot and play an incisive pass would be better.
ErwinK1961 Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 Finding someone who does a similar job but can shoot and play an incisive pass would be better. Someone like Payet would be good... (I'm in no way stating we should go or have any chance of getting him).
Pass the Dutchie Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 For me: --------------------------------------Forster----------------------------------- Cedric----------------Fonte-------------------Van Dijk-------------Bertrand ----------------------------Romeu---------Clasie---------------------------- -------------------------------------Davis-------------------------------- --------Juanmi---------------------------------------------Tadic-------------- -----------------------------------Pelle----------------------------------------

Heard today that because Noble rebuffed his attempts to sign him for West Brom Roy got the hump and will never pick him for England! ?
Dark Munster Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 Heard today that because Noble rebuffed his attempts to sign him for West Brom Roy got the hump and will never pick him for England! ? Reminds me of Glenda's treatment of MLT when England manager, possibly due to MLT rebuffing Glenda's attempt to sign him for Chelsea previously.
Appy Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 Who gives a **** about who Hodgson picks? This is the Saints v Sunderland build up thread.

ALWAYS_SFC Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/arsenals-jack-wilshere-guaranteed-place-7489927 Pathetic as it is, that's not a surprise Some players are in under any circumstances This is why we will never win a major tournament again
ecuk268 Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/arsenals-jack-wilshere-guaranteed-place-7489927 The bloke's got glass legs. If he does play it'll be a wonder if he lasts more than a couple of games.
Batman Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 Pathetic as it is, that's not a surprise Some players are in under any circumstances This is why we will never win a major tournament again There is a serious chance that rashford will be called up for the next round of games. What the hell???

It's Connor Wickham 2012 all over again. Connor Wickham's in fantastic form, 2 goals in his last match.
The9 Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 There is a serious chance that rashford will be called up for the next round of games. What the hell??? Well he's had more impact on Man U in 3 matches than Rooney has all season, so I don't see why not.
Mr Biscuits Posted 4 March, 2016 Posted 4 March, 2016 There is a serious chance that rashford will be called up for the next round of games. What the hell??? Do you honestly think it's going to make any difference at all? I'll be surprised if England make it past the quarter finals
PeteCampbell Posted 5 March, 2016 Posted 5 March, 2016 Forster Fonte VVD Bertrand Cedric Classie Davis Romeu Targett Mane Pelle I would be surprised if it is anything different to that
Deano6 Posted 5 March, 2016 Posted 5 March, 2016 Couldn't be less up for a game than this one. Totally inconsequential.
Mr Biscuits Posted 5 March, 2016 Posted 5 March, 2016 Couldn't be less up for a game than this one. Totally inconsequential. Well that's not true really. If the club want European football next season, every single point between now and the last game is vital

ALWAYS_SFC Posted 5 March, 2016 Posted 5 March, 2016 There is a serious chance that rashford will be called up for the next round of games. What the hell??? I was talking about wilshere
GarrettIvo Posted 5 March, 2016 Posted 5 March, 2016 Well that's not true really. If the club want European football next season, every single point between now and the last game is vital Well at a minimum I want a top half finish, but yes the closer to Europe the better. And all things being equal, we should be beating Sunderland at home. Anything that pushes them closer to the Championship is fine by me.
Saint_clark Posted 5 March, 2016 Posted 5 March, 2016 Well he's had more impact on Man U in 3 matches than Rooney has all season, so I don't see why not. It won't be at the expense of Rooney though. The strikers should be Vardy, Kane and Defoe going by this season, with Rooney included purely because of who he is.
whelk Posted 5 March, 2016 Posted 5 March, 2016 It won't be at the expense of Rooney though. The strikers should be Vardy, Kane and Defoe going by this season, with Rooney included purely because of who he is. Defoe? Are you having a laugh?
Graffito Posted 5 March, 2016 Posted 5 March, 2016 This is one where an early goal either way will be vital.
Saint_clark Posted 5 March, 2016 Posted 5 March, 2016 Defoe? Are you having a laugh? He's still a natural finisher. Deserves to go more than Rooney.
