Batman Posted 28 February, 2016 Author Share Posted 28 February, 2016 Beautiful City win. So happy it was not Liverpool No doubt there will be reams of press and hours over the airwaves about how brave and inspiring Liverpool have been. david in sweden Posted 28 February, 2016 Share Posted 28 February, 2016 If Man.City qualify in top four, then their Euro Leaugue place doesn't go to losers ?...........somebody who knows the rules please..... If they win CL.....they qualify next season as winners?....does the 4th CL place go to 5th placed team ?....in which case an extra place in Euro League ..? or ?.... If a top four side wins the FA Cup..then is an extra place available in Euro League ....?

markr27 Posted 28 February, 2016 Share Posted 28 February, 2016 (edited) Last year Chelsea won the League Cup and finished top 4, therefore its place in the Europa League went to Spurs (6th). Edited 28 February, 2016 by markr27

Same goes for the FA Cup, if the winner is in the top 6, then the EL spot goes to 7th position. Let's just say City winning has given us a better chance at getting back into Europe. Also if City finish 5th, the Capital One Cup Euro spot goes to the PL 6th place. If a top four side wins the FA Cup..then is an extra place available in Euro League ....? Being cup runners-up no longer qualifies for Europe. If City finish in the top 4 and also win the CL there is no extra CL place for the PL, but if they finish 5th and win the CL the top 5 qualify for the CL, with Euro Cup going to 6th and 7th. If on top of that, a top 7 team wins the FA cup, then 8th would qualify for the Euro Cup.

vince Posted 29 February, 2016 Share Posted 29 February, 2016 what if united finish 5th and win the europa league? Not sure if this fully explains it in enough clarity, but https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016–17_UEFA_Europa_League says: "If the Champions League title holders or the Europa League title holders have qualified for the Europa League through domestic performance, their berth in the Europa League is vacated (not replaced by another team from the same association), and cup winners of the highest-ranked associations are moved to a later round accordingly" I think that means a domestic cup winner from the highest ranked association that isn't us would benefit. Good find. I knew a 5th or lower placed winner of the Europa League or CL would give the PL an extra CL place, but now we know it wouldn't help us if we finish 8th!
