Shance Posted 12 February, 2016 Share Posted 12 February, 2016 Do any of you participate? For those who haven't heard of it. It's basically a stock exchange for footballers. You buy shares in players and those shares fluctuate depending on how much they are in the press etc. There are saints players on there too. Because it's starting to get popular, the more people that put money into it, the more it drives up the price. Then when you've made a big enough profit, you just sell your shares off. If nobody buys your shares then the site eventually buys them back. Because of it's growing popularity it's pretty much free money atm. Have a look. (I am in no way affiliated with this site btw, so i'm not spamming. My mate told me about it so I did some research).

Tony F Posted 12 February, 2016 Share Posted 12 February, 2016 Shance, Surman has posted a picture of a pyramid. It does sound like it is just another pyramid ultimately will go somewhere else. Shance Posted 12 February, 2016 Author Share Posted 12 February, 2016 I see. I know what a pyramid scheme is and this isn't one. It's just trading shares. The first people will earn more money yes, but that's what happens when building a new market. I'm not going to defend it too much though as like I said, i've only just joined today but because of the growing amount of interest in it, the share prices are going up and up. Looks fun but limited to 500 players so presume its a lot of short selling rather than long term investments. You can keep your players for as long as you want. For instance, John Terry is really cheap atm but between now and summer his price will sky rocket because of his contract. I'll be keeping my shares in him for a while. Might buy a few in Luke Shaw as well as when he gets fit he'll be in the papers a lot, especially if he makes it back in time for the Euro's. Yeah but if all those 500 players are established players then half the appeal for me would be lost as I would rather invest in relative unknowns or emerging players and wait for their big move or their profile to be raised and cash on. Otherwise you are by and large basically just predicting periods of form for known players? Short selling is not the same thing as short term trading. Fair enough - I mean short term trading rather than long term investments in prospects.

Of course it is a pyramid. In real shares you actually own the share of the thing (company) you bought shares in. You don't own anything at all in the Football Index. What type of players should you be getting? The more they are trending in the media the more their price goes up. John Terry's has been going up because of his contract at Chelsea and will continue to do so as he is linked with more and more clubs. There's a thing on the site called the buzz. If your player wins the buzz for that day you win 20p per share I think. John Terry has won 4 lately. Top players will always rise as the site gets more popular and I chose Messi as he's got a tax evasion trial coming up soon. He'll smash the buzz with that. You'd have to be stupid to lose in the websites infancy. Ah well, I went and had a look at the site and see that it is run by BetIndex Ltd who are registered off shore Our revolutionary platform is changing football betting forever. Football INDEX allows you to buy footballers for real money, build a portfolio, earn dividends, trade players and sell at a profit. Bet on the footballer, not the fixture. Your bet stays open with multiple win opportunities until you choose to close it. You’re effectively betting on a player's future value, performance and success. Saying that you can't see how you lose money is somewhat incongruous when dealing with betting companies, as if they didn't make money, they wouldn't be in business. Still, my view on life is that you generally have to pay something to enjoy yourself, so if you lose a bit, so be it. If you are lucky, you'll win. Having said that, I wonder whether the claim of earning of dividends and trading might possibly fall foul of FSA regulations, but then I'm sure they know what they are doing, even if the company was incorporated in July 2015 and seems to be very popular with the Daily Mirror, who you would hope would do soem simple checks. At least they are registered with the Gambling Commission.

After taking a quick look at the site: 1) It's NOT a pyramid scheme as some above are suggesting, nothing like one. 2) You're explanation above about trending in the media is how players win the Daily Buzz, for which the daily winner receives a 20p "dividend". It has no effect on the players price which is solely based on supp;ly and demand for tat player. 3) It uses EBay as an example to clearly explain that when you want to sell a player you have to wait till another player wants to buy him (as in an EBay sale, simply listing him for sale gets you nothing till a buyer comes along) . You can't simply decide to "cash out" and guarantee getting funds at any given moment. So in true Dragons Den stylee " ... so for that reason , I'm out"

When you say your mate made hundreds has he simply seen the value of his holding increase or has he actually received back cash more than he put in? They're not the same thing. Sounds a fun game but not something I'd want to be risking real money in. But good luck with it, I'd be happy for you if you prove me wrong.
