CB Fry Posted 10 February, 2016 Share Posted 10 February, 2016 Amusing Mathew Syed and all those dissenting from the majority view desperately trying to not accept they were wrong. FSG didn't have such pride. Name of the game these days so many want to be the hipster contrarian. Hey the masses don't know what they're on about but hey I do. I wish one of the things I buy was cheaper than it is. It takes some arguing against, does that.
kwsaint Posted 10 February, 2016 Author Share Posted 10 February, 2016 If you support a team, I don't think boycotting or walking out of their games is the best way to protest or express your opinion. The attendance at the Ian Branfoot boycott game v Ipswich still delights Pompey fans to this day. They think it's one of the best things we've ever done. Liverpool fans could have used 'No to 77' placards and banners covering the whole Kop and it would have been televised nationwide and appeared on the back pages of all the papers. Instead they just turned the game in Sunderland's favour and possibly cost their team 2 points. On the plus side that may well prove to be the difference between us and them finishing 6th. I seem to remember that what did for that nice Mr Branfoot was Lawrie M being appointed director of football followed shortly by a cup match v Port Vale (1-1). At the end of which the directors box in the West Stand was surrounded by irate supporters giving the directors serious abuse. The message seemed to finally get through and he was gone the following week. There are many ways of getting the message across. Liverpool's seems to have worked now that the board has backed down. There is massive unrest at Charlton at the moment, which has not had much publicity. The chairman is utterly clueless about football. Talks about the value proposition of watching future premier league players before they are sold on! One supporter submitted her resignation as a director to companies house, complete with forged signature. Enterprising, although completely illegal and he will be in serious trouble if caught. Dark Munster Posted 10 February, 2016 Share Posted 10 February, 2016 A protest inside a football stadium about ticket prices when you've already paid the price to watch the ticket is laughable. The only way prices will come down is if people stop going. Protest outside the ground, don't go but protesting about something you are clearly already paying for is a joke. Would people book a train to London get on the train and get off at Woking to protest against train prices? Would people book a hotel room and leave it at 4 in the morning to protest against the price of hotel rooms? If you're not happy with the price then don't pay it and don't go, it ain't hard. When enough people start doing it then and only then will they take notice. Or protest inside a football stadium about ticket prices when you've already paid the price to watch. Turkish Posted 10 February, 2016 Share Posted 10 February, 2016 Or protest inside a football stadium about ticket prices when you've already paid the price to watch. The point everyone keeps missing is prices already had come down for most normal fans. 64% of season ticket prices had been frozen or dropped. The price they were protesting about where a tiny majority of top end tickets and the top end season tickets in the new stand. All they've done is make tickets cheaper for tourists, which are the people they were whinging about taking their seats anyway.

The fans protested. The club listened, and did so quickly and respectfully.
angelman Posted 10 February, 2016 Share Posted 10 February, 2016 To put this into perspective, season ticket prices...new sales/renewals for adults (ie the most expensive category) Family @ £584/541 = £30.73/£28.47 per game Wings @ £648/£599 = £34.11/£31.53 per game Goals @ £678/£628 = £35.68/£33.05 per game Central @ £737/682 = £38.79/£35.89 per game Kingsland premium = £825/737 = £43.42/£38.79 per game Itchen Premium = £853/759 = £44.89/£39.95 per game So all this talk about capping at £30 a game for away supporters (why just them?), in reality isn't that much different from most renewed adult STs in the ground. It's quite easy to get carried away with a rant about prices and that £30 cap is good, but I suspect those in the Family section and Wings and maybe Goals aren't going to be complaining too much, even if Goals is 10% more than that.
