The BIG QUESTION now is ......

the big question now has to be....Is the recent run of 5 games - a revival of fortunes, "a new dawn" or just a pleasant blip in an otherwise "indifferent" season?

Perhaps the next 5 games will give us an answer.

Swansea (A)

Chelsea (H)

Bournemouth (A)

Sunderland (H)

Stoke (A) IMHO .....10- 12 points would keep us in the running.

Good results at Man U and Arsenal make a pleasant change of fortune, but now we face a string of teams who are below us in the league.

One wonders how long the clean sheets will continue?, but after the inevitable 95 minutes are up, it's the points tally that counts.

The defence seems to have clicked-in OK, but we are still woefully lacking goal-power away from home. Perhaps by the time we return fron the Stoke fixture,

we'll know...which was the wind is blowing. ...Will it end with more Europa League action, or will it go down as a season of mid-table mediocrity?

With our recent form and results, we have no reason to fear any of those opponents. I would say the trickiest of them is Stoke away, as they are normally an incredibly difficult team to beat at the Britannia, although Everton made them look poor today so they are clearly beatable.

I think 8 or 9 would be a decent return, but given our recent form I could imagine us looking for more.

Swansea win

Chelsea win

Bournemouth draw

Sunderland win

Stoke draw

Am I expecting a little bit to much.

Yes. If this season has taught us anything it us that everyone is wildly inconsistent, except Leicester.

Can't see us going ten unbeaten. We will be terrible and lose to someone sometime - at least one of Chelsea, Sunderland, Stoke.

Either way it is looking very good for us to finish top eight again now which would be quite something.

3 points off the magic 40 point mark. We should be safe after that.

At which point the Dalek comedy roadshow rolls on to you hilariously pretending you think we are going to finish up with stupidly low points totals. Don't tell me, we'll relax and finish up on 45 points. Oh how we will laugh and laugh.

A reasonably accurate way of looking at what the safety points total will be at the end of the season is to look at how many points per game the team in 18th currently has (Norwich - 23 from 25 games) and add a point per game to the end of the desk. which is usually fairly reliable to giving you the points total of the team in 18th at end of season. This would therefore be 36 points, so it's probable that 37 points will see you safe at the end of the season. Of course if everyone at the bottom wins next weekend, you can re-calculate using this simple method. Simple but effective

Villa have been fairly consistent this season too.

Put him on ignore then. Your posts responding to his are just as formulaic and pointless.

I would be very happy if CB Fry did put me on ignore. In fact, he might do quite a few people a favour if he put them on ignore, then we could say goodbye to his constant trolling.

Based on corresponding fixtures we are on course for only 51 points this season, but in the same way we dropped off last year when Forster was injured, our form is improving with his return.

Positivepete, - 53 points, not 51:

We had 24 points after 19 games.

Using 24 points as our second half 'total' we have gained / lost the following:

Norwich -3; Watford +2; West Brom +2, Man U +3; Arsenal -2; West Ham +3

29 points

The recent performances have been very positive and it is great to start looking up the table rather than down. However, the stat that we have only scored 2 goals in our last 5 away games is something that needs to be put right (and has been an issue most of the season).

Unless this improves, we will struggle to get into a European position. I think that the game on Saturday is a great opportunity to see if our recent form has masked a fundamental issue that has yet to be addressed. Nobody expects us to score a hat full at Old Trafford or Emirates, but Swansea are not at the same level and we have to win this type of match if we are to climb further up the league.

Fingers crossed, that we see a decent 2-0 victory on Saturday.....

if we are the mid table side that the season to date suggests, then we shouldn't be surprised if our form goes again. Having said that, perhaps the new formation, the players coming back from injury, and the new players finding their feet might all add up to us being a little more than a mid table side. Fine lines, and unlike earlier in the season we are falling the right side of them.

Who knows, this has been a complete funfair ride of a season.

Since Newcastle (a) our form has been .........won 1 in 8 -> unbeaten in 8 -> won 1 in 10 -> unbeaten in 5 with 5 clean sheets.

Funny old season so far.

The only thing I am confident of is we're not going to get relegated.......I think.
