Saint in Paradise Posted 4 February, 2016 Share Posted 4 February, 2016 for being fast off the mark in the academy and black box type situations do you think that they will do like Wolfsburg have done? IF they do can you see much benefit for Saints? http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/35488782/wolfsburg-sign-one-of-the-uks-best-fifa-players "David Bytheway from Wolverhampton has been playing FIFA at a professional level since he was 17. Last year he represented England at the FIFA Interactive World Cup and has travelled to Las Vegas, New York and Rio de Janeiro to compete. But he never thought he would get to play for an actual football club. The 22-year-old signed for Bundesliga side Wolfsburg last month"

imported_Saint_G Posted 4 February, 2016 Share Posted 4 February, 2016 admittedly taken from Wikipedia, but "In 2013, it was estimated that approximately 71,500,000 people worldwide watched competitive gaming. The increasing availability of online streaming media platforms, particularly Twitch.tv, has become central to the growth and promotion of eSports competitions. Demographically, Major League Gaming has reported viewership that is approximately 85% male and 15% female, with 60% of viewers between the ages of 18 and 34.] I imagine you sell sponsorship of the our e-player, they'd wear our kit, promote our brand and create a new revenue stream. No brainer in my mind, its the way the world is going so may as well get on the train at the first station.
The Cat Posted 4 February, 2016 Share Posted 4 February, 2016 Appeals to the yoof most fans under 15 don't realise football exists outside of the xbox..... A lot of my son's friends don't watch much football but they all play FIFA. There's a shed load of money being made by people playing games on Twitch or uploading FIFA clips to Youtube. For example there's a bloke called KSI who started adding FIFA stuff to youtube about 4 years ago who is now massively famous. He has millions of subscribers, has a track with 13 million views, drives a Lamborghini. It's no surprise that some clubs might want a slice of that pie. The9 Posted 5 February, 2016 Share Posted 5 February, 2016 Appeals to the yoof most fans under 15 don't realise football exists outside of the xbox..... But how does that translate into people actually giving the club money? It's a fairly tenous link to make between people who love online football gaming but haven't worked out there are real clubs they can go and watch, isn't it? The response suggesting clubs might sponsor in return for a share of winnings and sponsorship is a viable revenue stream, but if that's the case, we should also be doing the same kind of sponsorship for traditional other sports with mass participation and big winnings for the very elite players. Like tennis...?

angelman Posted 5 February, 2016 Share Posted 5 February, 2016 Daughter's boyfriend gets paid for playing League of Legends. Can I ask roughly how much? For a middle aged codger like me, the idea of paying someone to play computer games, is a strange concept (Google helped me with what League of Legends was! For those that don't know: ). Truly bizarre.
ADutchSaint Posted 5 February, 2016 Share Posted 5 February, 2016 If your any good in games you can make very, very good money. Not that long ago i saw a podcast about it and i was blown away with the money they make from sponsors, streaming and winning tournaments. You need to flip hamburgers for years to earn what these gaming kids make in a month. Its a legit option these days to make some serious money. ADutchSaint Posted 5 February, 2016 Share Posted 5 February, 2016 But what's it got to do with running a football club? Well i was responding to angelman who asked what those guys make but my guess, branding/marketing? Im no expert on it, i just watched a podcast and a short documentary from VICE about this whole competitive gaming world but i can see why it could be interesting. That gaming market is huge where gamers have thousands of fans and millions of people tune in. Put a gamer in your jersey and the chances are that his fans will buy that jersey as well and offering your shirt sponsor a whole new market might be interesting as well, im sure VEHO wouldnt mind for example. So lots of possibility's really, maybe you can even persuade a few of those gaming fans turning into fans of the actual football team? But i dont know enough about it all but from what i understand, its huge and a market that big is always interesting.
The9 Posted 5 February, 2016 Share Posted 5 February, 2016 Ok, genuinely interested in how this is only a thing for online gaming and not other mass-participation events though.
