Saint Charlie Posted 3 February, 2016 Posted 3 February, 2016 (edited) What would you do? For me Forster is an absolute no brainer to extend as soon as we can. He would be a very attractive free transfer aged 30 in 2018 and has more than proven himself as a quality PL goalkeeper. Mane you would obviously extend if you could but it will be nigh on impossible. The others I would leave for now and only potentially consider Tadic, but wouldn't even be hugely shocked if he left this summer. We may feel Long is worth extending if only to slightly protect the high fee investment but its far from crucial at this stage. Pelle - expires summer 2017 Tadic - expires summer 2018 Forster - expires summer 2018 Gardos - expires summer 2018 Long - expires summer 2018 Mane - expires summer 2018 Most of this summers signings signed 5 year contracts which is generally much better and gives us a bit more scope especially as we tend to find it hard to extend the deals of our best players. The9 Posted 3 February, 2016 Posted 3 February, 2016 Sign them all to extensions except Gardos, if they'll sign (I'm expecting Pelle and Mane won't. Long and Forster might).
Chris27687 Posted 3 February, 2016 Posted 3 February, 2016 i would extend everyone but pelle - seems he's being sold in the summer and seems a good deal for everyone. He's one of the more popular figures in the dressing so setting him up with a decent aerie a team will probably win some Bon homie and 5-8 mil.
nta786 Posted 4 February, 2016 Posted 4 February, 2016 I would attempt to give a new contract to all our 2014 signings this summer except Gardos maybe- offer him one next year. I'd offer Pelle a 1 year contract extension, and the rest, try to extend it to 2020.
CB Fry Posted 4 February, 2016 Posted 4 February, 2016 Forster will not leave on a free in 2018 so let's stop worrying about that. If he carries on as he is and maybe displaces Hart then likely to attract top 4 interest but would need to become a £20m+ keeper in the process. Not bad business but in a year, I think. Tadic won't get a better offer so he will extend. Gardos probably moved on. Long likely to stay on in a Steven Davis way. Mane will only extend if his agent tells him he isn't going top 4 after all (which is possible, he's good but not sure he really is that good yet). Pelle is gone this summer.
Saint Charlie Posted 4 February, 2016 Author Posted 4 February, 2016 I don't think Forster will leave on a free but if we don't extend then he will pretty much have to be sold next summer to avoid losing him for nothing the year after, which would be a shame given he already missed most of this season. The top sides are quite well set for keepers at the moment so hopefully that helps our cause. He is more likely to sign a new deal than Wanyama or Mane.
Baird of the land Posted 4 February, 2016 Posted 4 February, 2016 Most important one to renew is Forster. Fortunately Liverpool gave Mignolet a fat new contract. Maybe that will stop them coming a courting. After that Tadic & Mane(though obviously Mane may reject it) Maybe offer Long a one year extension. If there's a move that suits both parties then sell him. Otherwise let his contract run down. Gardos needs to prove himself next season before we think of extending
doddisalegend Posted 4 February, 2016 Posted 4 February, 2016 (edited) The issue hasn't really been about offering players contracts ( apart from Cork) more that players don't want to sign new ones. Case in point victor has stalled contract talks amid interest from Arsenal (allegedly) http://www.footballgossip.org.uk/index.php/2016/02/04/arsenal-target-wanyama-stalls-over-contract/ Edited 4 February, 2016 by doddisalegend

Case in point victor has stalled contract talks amid interest from Arsenal (allegedly) http://www.footballgossip.org.uk/index.php/2016/02/04/arsenal-target-wanyama-stalls-over-contract/ It is somewhat about timing though. Once a player approaches the last 18 months of a contract their agents are then in overdrive and the player starts to gain more and more control. Spurs with Ali is a good example, they've wasted no time in offering a new contract as soon as it became apparent that he can exceed at the highest level.
mattiiiboiii7 Posted 4 February, 2016 Posted 4 February, 2016 Would Forster do what JRod did? We recovered JRod from a huge injury and he paid us back by signing a contract. Do we think Forster would feel he owes us when it comes to extending his?

Why is it that other clubs are so much better at everything than we are? So annoying.

Do we think Forster would feel he owes us when it comes to extending his? I think Forster has already shown his injury hasn't impacted his longer term prospects and it's unlikely to be a factor to put others off, not sure Rodriguez can say the same and was probably a lot more keen to extend his contractual security at this level. I could see Forster going to Man U if De Gea eventually goes, or Arsenal as Cech is probably on a bit of a slope at the very top level.
The9 Posted 4 February, 2016 Posted 4 February, 2016 Why is it that other clubs are so much better at everything than we are? So annoying. Yeah, especially Spurs, well known for their sensible and successful transfer deals, particularly spending the Bale money.
Saint Charlie Posted 4 February, 2016 Author Posted 4 February, 2016 Yeah, especially Spurs, well known for their sensible and successful transfer deals, particularly spending the Bale money. Which they have clearly learned from and corrected.
The9 Posted 4 February, 2016 Posted 4 February, 2016 Which they have clearly learned from and corrected. Absolutely, and Mitchell and Pochettino probably had a lot to do with it, and they MIGHT continue on that path - but too many people are swallowing this as a completely new Spurs, and erm, one summer doesn't make a swallow.
Saint Charlie Posted 11 February, 2016 Author Posted 11 February, 2016 Bojan and Payet both sign new deals today. Be great if we could get Forster, Mane or Wanyama to similarly. Ever since we got back to the PL, getting our best players to sign extensions has been a nut we haven't really cracked.
Window Cleaner Posted 11 February, 2016 Posted 11 February, 2016 Yeah, especially Spurs, well known for their sensible and successful transfer deals, particularly spending the Bale money. Bought some decent players and then hired 2 shîte managers.
