doddisalegend Posted 1 February, 2016 Share Posted 1 February, 2016 This will not make me popular but it should be remembered that the money sky pay means that you can watch one of the best leagues in the world at a vastly subsidised price (Only a fraction of club revenues now come from ticket sales). They do not do that out of the goodness of their hearts, but because they can make money and they do that by showing as many games as possible which means moving games to a variety of kickoff times. Eh what? is that why ticket prices have soared since the advent of the PL and Sky slightly old article but this gives a good indication http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/jul/28/premier-league-ticket-prices-football the 1989-90 season, for example, during which Lord Justice Taylor produced his final report on the wider issue of football ground safety, there were thousands of tickets in Old Trafford’s standing accommodation where fans could watch Manchester United against top opposition for £3.50. Adjusted for retail-price inflation in the 24 years since, that ticket would now cost £6.94, just under a 100% increase. United’s lowest-priced ticket for this season, of which there are very many fewer than in the days of standing, will be £31. At Liverpool, where prices have been increased significantly since the 2010 takeover of the then financially-troubled club by John Henry’s Boston-based Fenway Sports Group, the 1989-90 cheapest ticket price, accommodating thousands of fans on the Kop, was £4. This season, Liverpool’s cheapest matchday ticket will be £46, an increase of 1,150%.
angelman Posted 1 February, 2016 Share Posted 1 February, 2016 Just now received an email from the club advising of date change. Nice to see that that part of the club is so on the ball. Maybe if they sent it at the same time as they tweeted it, it might be better!!

ant Posted 1 February, 2016 Share Posted 1 February, 2016 I´d rather have my team playing in the 2nd best league in the world, seeing world class players and suffer the inconvenience of the odd kickoff change than watch a league on a par with the French league. It's a little more than an inconvenience at this notice. How sad it is that the people actually getting off their arses to support their team are treated as the after-thought. Noodles34 Posted 1 February, 2016 Share Posted 1 February, 2016 Not technically as good!!? It was technically awful. Do we really want to go back to that? I´d rather have my team playing in the 2nd best league in the world, seeing world class players and suffer the inconvenience of the odd kickoff change than watch a league on a par with the French league. ok, as long as you are happy then that the richest clubs get richer and then introduce rules to build a glass ceiling to stop the likes of us getting on par (Leicester excepted, once in the last 25 years). As I said, it wasn't technically as good, but it was still entertaining, and thats what i go for, a bit of entertainment and hopefully we win, not necessarily going to watch the other teams WC players. Its nice to see the likes of Costa and Silva and Sanchez (but the real WC players are at Barca, Bayern and RM), but then it was nice to see Hoddle, Waddle, Beardsley, Barnes too. I think you're over exaggerating it and have you seen the difference in points that PSG have in their league? Dont think it was like that pre EPL. angelman Posted 1 February, 2016 Share Posted 1 February, 2016 How naive can you get?! I think it might be an age thing. As one of those who was watching Saints many years before Sky and the PL came into existence, I can say that I enjoyed my trips to the Dell just as much as I do these days. I really wouldn't mind the whole of football having less TV money, which would mean lower wages to players. It might happen if Sky can't meet their obligations. Mattio Posted 1 February, 2016 Share Posted 1 February, 2016 Much better for me coming from London but it takes the p1ss that they left it so late, should have just been this slot in the first place or not on TV at all if there was a risk of a late move. What difference would an email have made to you confirming the date change, when you knew it might happen all along; and knee was happening after WHU drew, the club(s) tweeted the change, The club Facebooked the change, Sky tweeted the change and the Prem League tweeted the change as well? Batty is right, what difference would an email have made here?
The9 Posted 1 February, 2016 Share Posted 1 February, 2016 (edited) Err that's strange, the folks who sit next to my wife "sold" their season tickets back to the club before the Leicester game they couldn't attend sold out. Only if the club made a special exception. The T&Cs re: ST sell-back are very clear, only if the game is a sell out and the amount you get back is a credit against next year's ST. Which frankly makes it near as damn it pointless. Back to the OP, I'm pleased with the fixture move to 5:30pm, I'm very displeased about the complete lack of notice or regard for fan arrangements, I can only imagine how mental the Hammers fans are about it. Absolute nonsense. Ticket prices are increasing well above inflation and most of the added TV revenue goes to the players' wages. The only "benefit" to fans is that Premier League clubs can outbid all but a few foreign clubs for good players which means the standard of players (and theoretically football) on show should be higher - but that's very much a subjective criterion anyway and as we saw in the Championship in 2011/12 and League One before it, there are plenty of people who'd rather a competitive league with lower wages and less tv-faffery. Is that really the excuse you are going to bring up? How old are you? Although I was aware of the potential for change, I neither do twitter nor facebook, nor do many other people. I think I actually signed up for notification by email. All I pointed out was that the email should have gone out straight away thus allowing some who might not have been aware, an extra day and a half to make arrangements. It's called customer service. I do realise that that is virtually non-existent in this country these days, and that when people like you cannot see why the email should have gone out at the same time as the other mediums used, as opposed 2 days later, it possibly shows why **** poor service is so prevalent these days. Those wanting to travel by train might be very pleased, as I am, because the return train to London would have been a bus service between Winchester and Basingstoke. So unless you had made the 10.00 train from Central you would have been stuffed for getting home. Whereas there are no such complications on Saturday, plus a special £15 return fare to boot. In addition, I think everyone was aware of the possibility of a change but the key issue for me is that ST holders are the only ones penalised. I understand that SKY / TV will be the deciding factor as to when a match is scheduled but I think the club could make a gesture to the small amount of ST Fans that are effected by offering a refund due the late nature of the change as a gesture of good will. It wouldn't take a great deal of effort to arrange an would be a great gesture to fans inconvenienced.

Nope- I can understand that travel may well be affected for a season ticket holder, but when you buy your season ticket you have to be aware that any one of our homes game could change at any given times. We buy a season ticket knowing that's the case.

But the sky money does not make the rich clubs richer, if anything it acts as a leveller, unlike in Spain for example where the big 2 negotiate their own TV deals and as such the rest are on a totally different playing field. We are now in a situation where Bournemouth have more spending power than AC Millan, where Palace can buy Cabaye, Stoke can buy Shaqiri etc etc. That is good for the league. But if it is entertainment, rather than quality you are after, there is always the option of supporting a local non league side. Most of the leagues are very competitive, games are close and high scoring, you are supporting the game and will be a hell of a lot better off at the end of the season. We buy a season ticket knowing that's the case. yes changes with advance warning but to change twice is unacceptable in my opinion. The warning that it may change back based a other teams results one week before the game is unacceptable. I certainly don't buy a season ticket based on being aware that this may happen. I think this is unusual situation and as such the club should think about treating it so. Ultimately It comes down to your tolerance of poor customer service and you are clearly more accepting of the treatment of the fans than I am. Personally I think its pretty poor and you don't but I guess neither of us is right.

LOL - how on earth can you tell how old I am? You may well be, but am impressed by your psychic powers. I know Twitter isn't scary, Ihave an account, but that rather misses the point. But I'm not upset about an email reaching me 2 days later, which again misses the point. Guess my standards about what customer service should be, are somewhat higher than yours. That's fine if you want to accept poor service, that's your wont. Probably best that way as you'll probably be rarely disappointed. As I say, no big deal. benjii Posted 1 February, 2016 Share Posted 1 February, 2016 The original date change, from Saturday to Monday, was only announced on 17 December. I find it hard to believe many ST holders have subsequently made irreversible plans for Saturday 6 Feb. Yes, it will annoy a few, but so will anything and I'm not really sure what the club is supposed to do about it. It's been a possibility ever since West Ham got through the third round of the cup. JRM Posted 2 February, 2016 Share Posted 2 February, 2016 Yes. It's the same principle. Exactly. My biggest gripe is the fact the Saturday slot was available all along they could have put the game there from the start and avoided any doubt at all. Cass Pennant and the ICF are pleased with the change as they can take advantage of the reduced train fares instead of needing to get the official bingo bus. Barry the Badger Posted 2 February, 2016 Share Posted 2 February, 2016 Would all the people moaning about this have done so, if it had been us having the replay? No, that's something that cannot be helped being late notice, it's the nature of the cup. If you can't make it's unfortunate but you accept it's unavoidable. A league game being moved because of somebody else's replay at 1 week's notice having already been moved once is completely avoidable. Either play the cup replay on another date (1 week later for example) or don't put a Monday night football match that week.
