Leicestersaint Posted 17 January, 2016 Posted 17 January, 2016 Fraser has now played two games and both have been clean sheets. Coincidence? I don't think so. He has made a huge difference - confidence is up and you can hear him in the stands shouting instructions. Welcome back Fraser Forster and please don't get injured again!
Matthew Le God Posted 17 January, 2016 Posted 17 January, 2016 Forster being back is certainly pleasing, but it isn't the reason why we've had two clean sheets in the last two games. The outfield players have played so well in those matches meaning Forster barely had anything to do apart deal with a small number of very tame shots, a couple of crosses and some back passes. I'd prefer Forster in goal over Stekelenburg, but the latter did little wrong when he played. He recieved a lot of harsh stick on these forums for goals he had no chance of saving. His kicking and distribution was also good.

Our is it more to do with us going five at the back with two defensive mids in front and keeping Yoshida away from the starting 11 perhaps? Easily our best keeper but he's not had to do anything since he came back as the two teams we've played have mustered one shot on target between them even Kelvin Davis would look good with those sort of stats.

I'd agree Forster hasn't had anything to do in order to make a tangible difference, but you can't tell (or measure) the intangible difference to the defence with him being back - we'll never know with that one. Stekelenburg did little wrong but he didn't make the saves a half decent Premier League keeper does. As the season went on it became clear he is nowhere near as good as Forster. However, as a 6 month stop-gap he was a decent signing.
angelman Posted 17 January, 2016 Posted 17 January, 2016 He did something that I haven't seen for a while. 2nd half, corner came in......he CAUGHT it. Can he really have had that much of an affect on the team? Certainly the defence know that they have a good keeper behind them. The performance vs Arsenal sums Stek up for me. HE didn't command his box at all. Can't recall whether it was Jose of Virgil who left a ball for him to collect, and he was stuck on his line. I wholly understand why we brought Stek in, but he isn't very good, and certainly in the long run (and with hindsight) giving Gazza the game time might have been better. Thank God FF is back, and long may he stay fit.
Matthew Le God Posted 17 January, 2016 Posted 17 January, 2016 Your inability to even vaguely have an objective opinion on saints is getting a little embarrassing. Can you enlighten me as to how saying Stekelenburg did little wrong isn't an opinion? It just happens to be one that doesn't match yours it seems.

Noodles34 Posted 17 January, 2016 Posted 17 January, 2016 At least we have a keeper that can kick a ball properly!
Shance Posted 18 January, 2016 Posted 18 January, 2016 Yes Forster does marshal the back four very well but so did stek. I don't think Stek is that bad at all and he's certainly a good no.2 to have. Forster is obviously a better keeper but there's too much hate towards Stek imo.

Millbrook Saint Posted 18 January, 2016 Posted 18 January, 2016 wonder if he'll ever learn how to wave Distancing himself from the fans as he's already been tapped up by the scousers ready for his summer move lol
jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 18 January, 2016 Posted 18 January, 2016 Lets all be honest Steklenberg is very average. Saves F all. Even Bertrand said after Watford game Forster installed confidence into the team. Yes 5 at the back has obviously helped but I can guarantee the team prefer Forster in goal.

The thing with FF is that he is a mountain and you cant see much of the goal with him standing in front of it!

Batman Posted 18 January, 2016 Posted 18 January, 2016 Agree with this. The thing with FF is that he is a mountain and you cant see much of the goal with him standing in front of it! 4 CM difference in the two
Golden Balls Posted 18 January, 2016 Posted 18 January, 2016 Anybody who has ever played in goal can see Stek isn't anywhere near PL standard these days. His positioning is awful. Hence why so many goals fly past him. He doesn't look like he makes mistakes as they aren't obvious clangers like Boruc would sometimes make. But a PL keeper would have saved quite a few that he let in and the defence knew it too. They didn't trust him at all. Kelvin has his faults but he pulled off more saves in that 1 game he made as a sub than Stek ever did.
St_Tel49 Posted 18 January, 2016 Posted 18 January, 2016 wonder if he'll ever learn how to wave I think that he prefers concentrating on the job in hand.
Special K Posted 23 January, 2016 Posted 23 January, 2016 3 clean sheets is excellent for a returning keeper. The defence and defensive midfielders have much more confidence in the big keeper and this shows in their play. Yes, they are playing better, but in no small way is that due to Forster returning between the sticks.
