Pneumococcal Injection

Just received a letter from the docs surgery offering me this injection that protects from pneumonia. Not heard of it before. It says it is safe and effective. Anyone else had one of these?

Yes, I had one three years ago after my heart problems. I had no reactions or problems with it. I was told that it offered some sort of protection against 19 different variants of the condition.

 

Whilst waiting to see the heart specialist last week I got chatting to an elderly lady who had recovered from pneumonia despite having been injected but she was told that her condition would have been much worse without it. It seems to me to be a simple way to avoid one of the many pitfalls in life.
