whelk Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Just wait for his exclusive!!! How's he meant to keep up with u-turns? Big ones at that
Saint_Tony Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Great news, we should have done this in the summer, but I guess the price was an issue. You really can't argue with his goal record. Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk
SNSUN Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Great news but as he's not fit, is this it or can we utilise the extra loan spot Caulker's leaving has afforded us? Austin has proved he's a goalscorer and that's exactly what we need. For 4 million? Bargain.
Smirking_Saint Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 He has officially signed by the way From the horses mouth
Saint_clark Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 His all round play is a lot better than people give him credit for...
saint lard Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Nice work Saints! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
angelman Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Wow looks like I was wrong about Charlie Austin to #saintsfc. Big u-turn from Koeman who didn't fancy him a few weeks ago. CAn't believe he tweeted that about RK. Has he not thought that RK might not have wanted to show his hand?
Colinjb Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 According to the QPR forum he only had 6 months on his contract, hence the low fee.
angelman Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 He has officially signed by the way From the horses mouth Makes a change to sign someone in demand, rather than be selling them!!!!
Saint Charlie Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 His all round play is a lot better than people give him credit for... First and foremost he is as Koeman would say "a scoring player" rather than a "running player" (Long) or a "strong player" (Pelle). Austin and Long could work but its very hard to see Austin and Pelle playing together. Neither are capable of playing wide, so Pelle's days numbered I reckon. Austin and Mane, Jay Rod would combine well.
Pedro Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Pelles knee and Jayrods fitness obviously forcing the issue.

Reckon we could squeeze a profit on Pelles transfer fee if we're smart about it. We've proven to be a lot more dynamic with Long and him and Austin could be a cracking partnership for a few years to come yet...
Baird of the land Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 I've never been his biggest fan honestly. There's also the worry regarding his knee. Very low fee and a british player who has scored goals in the prem isn't to be sniffed at. I'll be hoping to be proved wrong in regards my opinion and fears regarding him.

The knee I think is an issue for many, although I remember last year him pointing to it after having scored somewhere, in a "**** you" gesture to show that it wasn't an issue. Anyway, if it was, then surely the medical would have picked it up.
DuncanRG Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Great price which goes some way to allaying the injury concerns. Hope he has a stormer.
Shance Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Absolute ****ing bargain!!!! Well done Saints!!
DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Really happy with this Nice to see us doing this kind of business before pellet has decided what to do !!
Suhari Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Great signing. And for only a third of a $long. Unbelievable.
whelk Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 CAn't believe he tweeted that about RK. Has he not thought that RK might not have wanted to show his hand? Yeah naive at best but he is a clown.
Mallagroth Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 bit of excitement we desperately need to lift spirits. Can't knock signing a known English striker with a consistent goalscoring record. And at 4M injuries or not it's a bargain. You normally buy average championship support strikers for that sort of price.

simo Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 "That must mean we're signing Shane Long" Is the assumption from a lot of my Liverpool supporting friends!
S-Clarke Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Makes you wonder what Bournemouth have been smoking. £20m on Afobe and Grabban, yet £4m for Austin
Batman Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 £4m for an English striker, 26 years old who scored 18 premier league goals last season in a relegated side what the hell is not to like. Great bit of business for real quality
S-Clarke Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 "That must mean we're signing Shane Long" Is the assumption from a lot of my Liverpool supporting friends! Well, they're not. We want another striker, so we've got one, we're not going to sell and then put ourselves in the same position again.
hasper57saint Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Now make our day by thrashing the Baggies this afternoon.
S-Clarke Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35333790
DG Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Exactly what was needed. Great signing and a bargain too.
doddisalegend Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 He has officially signed by the way From the horses mouth ohhhh does that mean you get to be the new Vman.....
doddisalegend Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Get the **** in we are lacking a finisher so bringing a guy who got 18 last season in one of the worst PL teams ever has got to be good. well done saints
Batman Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 This is the sort of signing to get you excited. well done saints. brilliant signing
Poggs Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Probably a replacement for a striker we may lose!!
Saint Charlie Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Good signing. Easily equal to anything any othet club has done so far in Jan and gives our squad a strong look. Shame his first home game so far away!
Toadhall Saint Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Get the **** in we are lacking a finisher so bringing a guy who got 18 last season in one of the worst PL teams ever has got to be good. well done saints To a team that doesn't lack in creating chances
Chalkboy Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 F*ckin' A Look forward to Ron saying "It's a great player" : )
Shroppie Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Sky now reporting done deal Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
angelman Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 As others have pointed out, £4m for him vs Bournemouth's £12m & £8m signings!!!!
Webby Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 On the OS now http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/20160116-charlie-austin-announcement-southampton-qpr-2904717.aspx
John Boy Saint Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 Long Mané Austin that is a bit of a scary front line if they make the pitch together. The issue with the alledged knee if there is an issue you know he is in the right place for repairs if necessary
captainchris Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 It's good business as long as we don't sell Long :-))) We have needed a good goal scoring player for a 'long' time. Pelle only makes us play 'long' and when we do that we are a 'long' way off the pace. A great signing and 'long' may it continue.... ;-)
Soggy Bottom Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 4 1/2 year contract guess there is no issues with his knees
whelk Posted 16 January, 2016 Posted 16 January, 2016 From Sam Wallace Southampton a rare example of club where owner, manager, recruitment dept work as one. Means they can agree deals like Austin on the quiet
