benjii Posted 12 January, 2016 Share Posted 12 January, 2016 Who is everyone's player of the season so far? There aren't many candidates. I think only the following have played enough to be considered: Stek Fonte Virgil Bertrand Wanyama Davis JWP Tadic Long Mane Pelle Everyone else is a reserve or has struggled to hold their spot for enough starts through injury or rotation (ie. Cedric, Romeu, Classie). So, my top 3 would be: 3 - Virgil Still learning and makes mistakes but has slotted in well and shown massive potential. 2 - Mane Always entertaining and has been by a distance or best player in quite a few games. Just missing a few more goals. 1 - Tadic When he plays well and we get him on the ball we look like a much more complete team. He creates loads of chances. Outside those, I would say Bertrand and Pelle have been decent and Fonte pretty solid. Long and Davis - consistent (not always in a good way). Wiggles31 Posted 12 January, 2016 Share Posted 12 January, 2016 Dissappointingly this is a hard one to pick. Would probably agree with you tbh.
Colinjb Posted 12 January, 2016 Share Posted 12 January, 2016 Van Dijk. No other player deserves it. He at least looks like he wants it.
DuncanRG Posted 12 January, 2016 Share Posted 12 January, 2016 (edited) Van Dijk has been our only consistently strong performer across the season. Others have had great spells (Pelle, Mané, Fonte, Davis) but not maintained them. That said, we're holding them to a high standard. Few in the first team have really been poor for more than a couple of games. The problems are team problems. ScepticalStan Posted 13 January, 2016 Share Posted 13 January, 2016 Bertrand has remained pretty consistent throughout the season and deserves it IMO. People expect him to go the extra mile, get to the byeline and whip in crosses like he did last season - but you need a midfield that can actually win and keep the ball before you even think of the luxury of getting overlapping full-backs seriously involved from an attacking point of view. In terms of his bread and butter, which is keeping the opposing right-winger quiet, he's done his job well.
Saint Charlie Posted 13 January, 2016 Share Posted 13 January, 2016 Shows how poor the season has been that it is hard to really make a good case for anyone. All those who were here last season were better then and of the signings only Van Dijk is a possible so far.
Saint Billy Posted 13 January, 2016 Share Posted 13 January, 2016 I think Tadic's consistent performance in the Freemans catalogue puts him in with a shout.
Saint Garrett Posted 13 January, 2016 Share Posted 13 January, 2016 I was thinking about this the other day, and couldn't pick out one player who has done particularly well consistently. It's either Van Dijk (who I don't think has been that great) or Davis (who for a creative player doesn't score or assist) Tough one - the award is there for the taking in the second half of the season. Interesting I see it the total opposite as a team we are not playing badly IMO teams aren't hammering us or playing us of the park. What's costing us individual mistakes, poor decisions and some players having dropped off the form they showed last season. Player of the season so far is most likely VVD but he really isn't getting much competition. There are some talented players in the squad but they really need to raise their game. I'd add to that poor formations, which goes down as poor decisions by the manager.
lickierambert Posted 13 January, 2016 Share Posted 13 January, 2016 Literally no-one has been better than 6/10. Maybe VVD for Player of the Season thus far if I had to choose
doddisalegend Posted 13 January, 2016 Share Posted 13 January, 2016 I'd add to that poor formations, which goes down as poor decisions by the manager. I don't see that as a problem that is a manger trying to find something that works. Last year we were so solid defensively and that gave us a platform for our success. Pretty much all those formations are about Ronald trying to get that defensively stability back to give us a platform to work from. Sadly for Ronald our defence has become extremely prone to brain farts which pretty much nullifies the benefits of a formation change.
