The rumour that we bid 17m euros for Sturaro was in Italy's biggest Sports newspaper a few days ago

The talk that we will go back with an increased offer is new, although according to original Gazetta piece Juvntus have no interest in selling the player.

Maybe he's good, but 3 goals in his career, this seems another DM signing. Would it be optimistic to think we're ditching Clasie? Or is it just a wanyama replacement? Feel sorry for Reed, we've wasted money and frozen out a decent prospect.

Would quite happily sign this guy and ditch Wanyama and Clasie to be honest.

Bet you were just as excited about Clasie. Doesn't take you long to make your mind up though does it

I'm sorry, but my message to the board - STOP BUYING YOUNG PLAYERS WITH NO PREMIER LEAGUE EXPERIENCE (at least in this transfer window) - there are some decent players available with Premier League experience and players that are British.

Agreed. We need players that can make an instant impact and the chances of that are better taken with those who are currently playing PL football. Not to say someone from a foreign league wont, but they are far less likely too, imho.

Why clasie? Improving every game imo.

1. Similar to Wanyama - except faster and much better technique

2. Currently not playing because he's behind Pogba, Marchiso, etc

3. Juve are after Gundogan so would potentially sell Stuaro if this happens

4. 22 so won't be cheap!

5. Should be excellent in prem and certainly a quality quality addition and/or replacement of Wanyama

Survey says: Won't happen too good to be true unfortunately. Next!

Day 1: Rumour in Italian press.

Day 4: Alex Crook's apprentice writes about it for the Mirror

#standard

PS - neither of the strikers mentioned are anywhere near good enough for us

Luuk De Jong was dreadful at Newcastle

it's one thing ....if he's a potential replacement for Wanyama, OK maybe (?)....

but WE REALLY NEED A STRIKER who can score goals. We create loads of chances but no-one can score.

.......Is that so hard for the Board to understand? .

Arguably the big difference between this season and last is our DM is a shadow of last season. With Morgan gone and Victor's form gone to pot I'd imagine getting our defensive stability back would appeal to Ronald so I can see why the club would be interested. Agree though we need someone who can get the ball in the back of the net.

This. Although you should have put WE REALLY NEED A STRIKER in bold font.

I would have thought Juventus were more likely to consider the prospect of losing Pogba, and therefore keen to retain this bloke for that eventuality, irrespective of Gundogan.

We all know we need striker, I'm sure the board knows and certainly the manager knows BUT almpost every club in the Premiership and in the Championship and In La Liga and in Series A etc are looking for a striker so it aint going to be easy----or cheap

Just my opinion, but I think he's a complete waste of space.

He isn't at all. I'm in complete agreement with you about us buying average players who do nothing but block youngsters, but Clasie is far better than any of our young midfielders. His passing is vastly superior. Physically it is worrying how long it is taking him to adjust but on the ball he is miles ahead of Reed, JWP, Davis etc.

There were lots of people who thought the Morgan/Wanyama partnership was the best thing going, but the reality is we had to get a better passer in there somewhere. We moved the ball far too slowly and we had reached our maximum with those two as a pair. A Clasie type player is essential, it's just a shame we no longer have Morgan to partner him

and if we did sign him,if he turned out to be any good will be off the following season just like wanyama and van dyke will be oh and mane also.

Interesting definition of "the following season". Victor Wanyama signed for us in 2013.

First time poster on here, started watching them in '66 but left the area in '70 and the country in '90, sadly don't get to see them live much. Agree this story is likely to be bilge, it's reported only in the Gazzetta dello Sport's English-language website, which regurgitates mainly English tabloid stuff. May have missed it, but nothing visible on the main Italian site. Same goes for today's Pelle to Fiorentina rumour, either there on Sky Sports Italia (which Gazzetta World quotes as the source). Yet each Italian site has loads of transfer rumours of their own. Probably the wrong thread to say it, but nearly all this press transfer stuff has to be complete rubbish, out of curiosity I've been listing Saints rumours since 1 November (yes, I should get out more), and have recorded "links" to no fewer than 36 possible incoming players, probably missed a few. Can't believe it's agents doing this (why on earth would stuff in the Daily Star make a club interested in a player?), but is it more likely to come from betting companies drumming up business?

Nice try Ronald, I'm on to you.
