Is this our solution for the lack of forwards / goals? I hope not ....

You hope not? What a strange thing to say, don't you want to see our young players stepping up or are you writing him off because he didn't set the world alight at MK Dons? If I was a young pro at St Marys and I read comments like yours it would not exactly fill me with confidence.

bring him back and break him gently, thats fine, but surely they wouldn't throw him on and say right it's down to you son! that wouldn't be fair on him at all. and really don't think thats the case. Welcome back though Sam and good luck :)

Point taken FF, maybe a bit harsh as an OP, but as of now we need a confidence booster short term, Sam is maybe one for the future.

Nice to see something is being done to vamp up the Academy and improve our options and future development. It's not only the first team that's been suffering but also the Under 21\s, Under 19's. Going out on loan provides one option but not6 when our entire future development suffers.

Welcome back Sam. I m certain you won't let us down and give more than 100% to your game.

They've just been recalled as they haven't been playing, which negates the point of them being out on loan. I expect them to go back out on loan this month, most likely to League One sides.

Stephens is better than League One quality now, he is good enough to get regular game time at a lower Championship team. Going back to League One after performing so well at the top of the table with Swindon isn't helping him progress.

In your opinion.

Bottom of Championship, Top of League One, not a huge world of difference in it either way.

Why isn't kingslands comment okay. It's what most will think. I like Gallagher but he should be doing better up there. I think you're a bit biased as you have close connections to him but nothing wrong with kingsland red comments. Sam has to prove himself and hasn't so far at all.

Mmm.....Gallagher and Stephens recalled......???

Now if I was being sceptical....something is afoot.

Are they available to boost the U21s tonight in the League Cup against Chelsea? Would be good for the U21s to get their cup defence off to a good start. Remember Sam's goal last season.

Gallagher has made 15 appearances for MK, its not the same situation with him. He had issues with his "growth spurt" which meant he was not getting in the team. AFAIK Jack is fully grown :-) Gives us more options if as expected caulker and possibly Juanmi are gone, the bench last weekend looked very thin.

it was a perfectly sensible thing to think, if he was scoring for fun in L1 then we would all think that we should give him a chance but!!!!! Kingsland is quite right IMO and I know like us all hope that he becomes a big star for us,but not being first choice for a L1 club hardly inspires confidence especially if we need some goals

This is puzzling me. He couldn't get in the team because of his growth spurt? Were they afraid he would burst out of his kit on the pitch?

A lot of those were short sub appearances.

Do you have anymore details on this growth spurt thing?

You think fans "hoping" he is not the answer is sensible?

I have this horrible reoccurring nightmare that I am in a WW1 trench with Dusan Tadic on one side and CB Fry (the keyboard warrior not the Corinthian) on the other. The whistle is blowing and it is time to go over the top. I look left, I look right but both my colleagues have nailed their feet to the trench floor. I go into no mans land alone but the bullet that cuts me down hits me not in the chest but in the back. But then I awake, it was all a dream and i turn to my computer to log into the Saints forum to see what's happening in the real world.

Maybe Gallagher will join Isgrove at Barnsley?

Barnsley. Close to loan deal for very promising young Prem striker. May even make paper.

Maybe it's Seager going out on loan and Gallagher slotting into the u21s while we monitor his 'growth spurt'.

Oh dear, this has 'cheap option' written all over it. As much as I would love to see Sam make the grade, he has hardly shown enough to suggest he can regularly score goals at senior level - something a striker really needs to do. Not exactly our version of Harry Kane is he? We urgently need a striker who can step straight into the next Prem game, be comfortable on the ball at the level and score a goal or two, preferably from outside the area.

Strange that you have a recurring nightmare about a forum poster, positively weird actually.

I wonder how different things would have been if he had slotted that chance home against Arsenal that night.

As for the growth spurt stuff, I seem to recall Steven Gerrard had a similar issue at a similar age, and possibly Gareth Bale slightly younger, but both when they were young first team players and it resulted in a very disjointed season for them as the growth spurt however small makes the internal gyroscope go a bit wobbly and eye-boot co-ordination with it.

So Pelle & Jay Rod are injured, Mane is being a ****, Jaunmi has not quite worked out (yet) & Long is not good enough......

I know, let's go & buy a striker for god knows how much without guarantees whilst moaning about losing £46m on Ramirez & Osvaldo..........

And then, let's give a young lad a hard time about not playing much at MKD.

I for one am glad he's back. Give him a couple of weeks & get him back in the first team squad, give him a chance. I would rather do that than spend £15-£20m on a foreigner who doesn't want to really be here.

or we could go for a very good championship striker, maybe?

Corky, sadly I don't think Sam is going to cut the mustard.

Are you suggesting that someone who cannot get into MK Dons team is going to be the answer to our goal scoring problems

Accepting my perceived bias I am intrigued why on the strength of a disappointing spell at MK Dons which was on account of various reasons Sam has been written off? Less than 10 months ago he hit one of the best goals ever seen at SMS and in a final too, but that seems to count for nothing.

Scoring one goal means nothing. I remember Jordan Robertson scoring an absolute worldy at a much higher level (C'ship) - have a look and see how his career has panned out.

I think a lot of people on here forget he is only just 20. Younger than a good few of those playing for the U21s last night. A big striker will nearl always take longer to develop than a small nippy striker or midfielder. Some still bleat on about jwp and his age, but he is a year older and had a lot more chance. Sam G is clearly still developing. He's not the answer to our current problems but still looks like he will be for the future. Probably would benefit from a good loan out for rest of season, Aberdeen might be a good shout, if not to a Dutch team.

I don't thonk anyone is writing him off, just not the immediate answer to our lack of goals atm. It would be unfair and detrimental to him to bring him back and expect him to starting knocking in goals growth spurt or not.

UTD STRIKER JOINS BARNSLEY ON LOAN

Barnsley have signed Manchester United striker Ashley Fletcher on a month's youth loan.

"I'm buzzing to be here," Fletcher told the club's official website. "I've come to get some league experience and help improve the team.

Duncan, I and others have not written him off, but surely you can see how bizarre it is that we ink he might start becoming a Harry Kane now. In time perhaps but the team need somebody to start slotting in goals now. To have a raw forward who did not pull up stumps at MK Dons is hardly awe inspiring. 2seasons time then we may see something, but now in the PL???
