Rut Posted 29 December, 2015 Share Posted 29 December, 2015 Did Motorhead do a bad song? Am mainly into Punk but could always handle a bit of Motorhead. Great metal/Punk crossover. A few decent lyrics chucked in as well. Not many true rock 'n' roll legends left nowadays. They are all all dropping... Could pick many a song to link up but this nails a lot of things:
Lord Duckhunter Posted 29 December, 2015 Share Posted 29 December, 2015 Rip , seems he was only diagnosed a couple of days ago. Not really near the top of my lists, but an interesting bloke , incredibly knowledgeable about music and led an incredible life. I just felt that he became a bit of a parody the past 30 years, although I did get persuaded to see them in concert about 82 and it was pretty good, some hot dirty women there too . Was once given the On Parole album to listen to by a fan who thought I'd like it . It was before the classic lineup and was I believe the first recorded album, but wasn't released until they'd had a couple of hit albums . I thought it was pretty good , not so aggressive and ott as they later became ,but still with that punk/metal edge to it . It also contained what I think is their best song" Leaving here". Lemmys vocals are far better than they subsequently became . They were a touch to fast and heavy fir me , but I can see the attraction .Certainly a one off , and we need more of these types and less xfactor rubbish . sussexsaint Posted 29 December, 2015 Share Posted 29 December, 2015 RIP , only saw them once but he was the quintessential rock legend. How he made it to 70 is a miracle. Sadly , another one of the good ones bites the dust

sadoldgit Posted 29 December, 2015 Share Posted 29 December, 2015 He started out as a roadie for Keith Emerson and The Nice. It was him that gave Emerson a pair of Hitler Youth knives that Emerson used to stab in his keyboards. RIP.

Someone once said that, after a nuclear war, all that would be left would be cockroaches, Keith Richards and Lemmy. Looks like it's just Keith and the cockroaches now. sussexsaint Posted 29 December, 2015 Share Posted 29 December, 2015 Nice words from Brian May http://www.brianmay.com/brian/brianssb/brianssbdec15.html#30 A lot of people who don't know these guys will assume they are brain dead anarchists, although the truth is usually the polar opposite; most are intelligent sensitive thoughtful people and when they leave this world it becomes a little bit more ****
Saint137 Posted 29 December, 2015 Share Posted 29 December, 2015 Somehow Rest in Peace is inappropriate - he never bloody stopped and was never quiet. Love the quote on the BBC obit about if they moved in next door to you they'd be so loud your lawn would die. And interesting to hear from Brian May how they had the backline turned up - so they got to feel what the fans felt.
TopGun Posted 30 December, 2015 Share Posted 30 December, 2015 (edited) Many years ago, about 1987 or so, was sitting in the New Inn in Bevois Valley, and in came Lemmy and a small entourage. No idea why. I think the New Inn is long gone also (down a bit from the Hobbit) although not been in Bevois Valley for years. I didn't speak with him though as I was a bit overawed! cambsaint Posted 30 December, 2015 Share Posted 30 December, 2015 While not a fan of Motorhead, while watching the Beeb I realised I would probably have seen him in Reverend Black and the Rocking Vicars at The Clevelets Hotel near Blackpool around 1965. They mainly did covers of "Them" songs and Gloria was top of The Radio Caroline North charts for several weeks. I used to see them and hear RCN when I went to my Aunty's to have a free holiday at Thornton Cleveleys near Blackpool in the early to mid sixties. At the same time I watched The Trogs and Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky Mick and Tich learning their trade at The Winchester Lido Sunday Club for two shillings or 10p just before they became famous. Also watched The Family do a stint at Manchester Uni Wednesday free dances just after they had formed. Of course my wife beats all by reminding me she went to The Marquee every Friday night in the sixties. We were very lucky to see great groups in intimate locations for very reasonable prices in those days.
