nta786 Posted 28 December, 2015 Share Posted 28 December, 2015 (edited) Brilliant first half. Poor second half. Really, a draw would've been fair enough but a bs Antonio goal and luck meant they won. Koeman made wrong decision with Gaston. Should've put Clasie on who I would expect could play 30 minutes at a good intensity at least- even if it is 44 hours since our last game. Gutted really- but we haven't won our last fixture of the calendar year in a while I think. Here's to a good 2016. EDIT: you have to go back to 2010 to find the last time we won our last fixture of the calendar year: league 1 fixture vs Huddersfield! Batman Posted 28 December, 2015 Share Posted 28 December, 2015 played brilliantly the 1st half Brilliantly. should have been 3-0 at HT very poor, slow, hoof and tired in the 2nd half that is why we will fight it out with WBA, Norwich and Bournemouth this season to stay out of the bottom 6 cant blame the arsenal game for that 2nd half, we have been doing it all season bar the odd game Long played well, mane, davis and Rom IMO.. Martina was shyte. Yoshida was involved in a goal going in again. almost every time he is on the pitch deffo need a RB sooner or later. A massive weak area for us. DG Posted 28 December, 2015 Share Posted 28 December, 2015 Throwing away too many games like this, can't get that killer goal then turn to crap in the 2nd. More shooting practice required followed by getting the players to write 100 lines of there are two halves not one. January transfer window soon, plenty of areas that can be improved upon. Saint-Reece Posted 28 December, 2015 Share Posted 28 December, 2015 not sure how bringing on Juanmi and gaston to attempt to win the game was a bad decision? the only thing poor about that game was not taking our chances in that first 45, after that utter dominance I think we all knew if we didn't get another we were in for a hard time because West Ham couldn't have been that bad again 2nd half. The one thing we do need is a backup RB that is actually capable of playing there in the PL. Both Martina and Yoshida were at fault for both their respective goals. But to blame the double sub for the loss is strange to me.
Sheaf Saint Posted 28 December, 2015 Share Posted 28 December, 2015 We absolutely had them on the ropes in the first half and should have been at least 3-0 up at HT. Not for the first time this season, the opposition manager makes a tactical change at half time and we failed to adapt ourselves. We ran out of steam in midfield but Ron decides to change the wide players instead of making the CM change that everybody could see we needed to make. Bad management again from Koeman. How many more goals are we going to concede down our right hand side this season? We desperately need a good quality RB to shore up the defence. That way we at least stand a half chance of getting some points when the attackers fluff their lines, like they have done all too often this season. The one thing we do need is a backup RB that is actually capable of playing there in the PL. Both Martina and Yoshida were at fault for both their respective goals. But to blame the double sub for the loss is strange to me. We were lacking muscle in midfield as Romeu tired, so a lot of fans were expecting Clasie or JWP to come on. Neither Ramirez or Juanmi can win the ball back. That's obviously not why we lost but it didn't help. Bringing Carroll and Lanzini on at half time gave West Ham impetus which we couldn't match. Anyway, keep that intensity and belief from the first half and we'll get our way out of this dodgy run.

Agree, but no game time whatsover. Yoshida shouldn't be allowed anywhere near that team, absolute liability. badgerx16 Posted 28 December, 2015 Share Posted 28 December, 2015 In a game of two halves, we failed to create enough chances in the first to kill off the game, and made our obligatory defensive howler in the second to follow up a fluke equaliser. Dalek2003 Posted 28 December, 2015 Share Posted 28 December, 2015 Could see that coming. Can't waste chances like that first half. Our goal problem remains, an own goal and a loss. Did we use them all up against Arsenal? Very frustrating loss. Good to see people blaming Ramirez though. Handful of minutes one game and he's good, handful of minutes in another and he's rubbish. That'll happen when you don't play much. I never really expect us to come back in games like this. Think we're very easily defeated mentally and don't think we'd have got near Arsenal if they'd got the first goal. Think people will be disappointed if they think this team is going to put a run together. Some almost seemed to hope for a relegation battle to make life interested but they're far too good for that. It's just going to be erratic wins and losses all over the place until May, ultimately 9th-12th I would think. In a way I hope you are right. We are little too close to the bottom three for comfort. We need at least a point at Carrow Road.
Saint86 Posted 28 December, 2015 Share Posted 28 December, 2015 I blame koeman a bit today. We were comfy first half (and should have been out of site!) Second half it was clear from 50min that we had lost the centre of midfield... But as he often does, he brings on 2 wingers in like for like changes rather than addressing the gaping hole in the middle. He needs to stop doing this imho. A shame because we gave it a good go and deserved a draw. The players worked hard but with no control in the middle we just didn't retain possession and made it very hard for ourselves. Not sure why we took off tadic or mane, and no idea why we used Gaston. We have a serious issue that we never came close to replacing Morgan. Wanyama and romeu are big lumps, and claise can tackle but is a deep lying play maker. Morgan did both... Tonight we had no possession in midfield and no creativity. And it showed second half. Trust Antonio to come back and haunt us. Anyway. Signs of progress in recent matches. It is mid table this year and we all know it anyway so there is no point getting too worked up over things. Recruitment needs to be significantly improved this summer. We should have a good chunk to spend once we sell wanyama and mane and we need to really target those funds like we did in koeman's first season! Onwards and (hopefully) upwards! Now to retreat before the wrist splitters take hold!
Edmonton Saint Posted 28 December, 2015 Share Posted 28 December, 2015 Great first half, but 2nd half West Ham made a couple of subs and ever present fragile mentality comes into play and we throw it away. Wanyama and Romeu were non existent 2nd half, and serious questions need to be asked once more, why did we sign Clasie if he cant play more than an hour a week? Our back up right backs are simply not good enough, Martina at fault for the first, Yoshida for the 2nd. I for one, would rather see Jason McCarthy given a go then either of these. Our defending this season has been poor, poor positioning week in, week out, and we have let in some awful goals. Something is definitely wrong there, Has Fonte gone backwards? Or is Van Dijk not as good as we hoped. Notice James Collins screaming at his team first half when things were not going well. We need a leader like that on the pitch to stop us becoming such a walkover. Very disappointed as I hoped that Saturday was the turning point, but it seems that was a false dawn, and the real Saints were on show 2nd half today. derry Posted 28 December, 2015 Share Posted 28 December, 2015 That was a decent display except for two bad goals given away. The least said about the first the better. The second was an awful goal to give away. What the hell was VVD thinking of, he came out to pick up I think Valencia as he was controlling the ball, he should have kept going and closed him down but changed his mind and went back towards the goal and left Valencia to cross at his leisure. His decision making is being found out in the Premier League, against Palace he was ball watching along with Cedric and let Cabaye round the back, God knows what he was doing against Kane for the first goal, now today indecision let the cross in. That was three points dropped after a pretty good display. Ramirez was poor out of position on the right and Juanmi has a lot to do.
St Marco Posted 28 December, 2015 Share Posted 28 December, 2015 I don't blame Koeman for that result at all. It is so easy to say he should of brought xyz on as that would of helped us win. JWP has a grand total of 3 tackles all season so was never going to be a defensive option. Calling for him is laughable. We had a bucket load of chances and we should of put more than one away. Can't blame Koeman for that. Individual errors by players not up to this level is what cost us. Again. Overall I thought we played well. Davis and Romeu put in good shifts. Tadic and Mane were a menace and Long in the first half was great. My only criticism is for the individual players. Yoshida and Martina have cost us again. VVD in my opinion is nowhere near as good as some like to make out. For their second goal he just backed off their player and ran back into the box giving the guy a ton of space to put his cross in.
