West Ham Build Up

they have a fair few injury problems I think

in all parts of their side and have been on a poor run like us recently

far more confident after the drubbing we gave arsenal

draw at least IMO

I think it is at 1730 due to us playing at 1945 against arsenal. to give us a tiny bit extra of recovery time

Bit of a shame that Clasie is still struggling physically. Cramp after 65mins is indicative of poor conditioning.

Guess he won't start so Romeu comes in.

Will both CBs play again?

Will Martina be able to play two in two days after never starting before?

Tadic could well start in place of one of the midfielders. I get the feeling Romeu and Wanyama never works from the start so perhaps Tadic in for Clasie with Davis dropping deeper alongside Vic?

Looking at clasie career he hasn't struggled with injuries. Cramp isn't definitely poor conditioning tho. Also, if you have had cramp no reason you can't recover in a couple of days.

One of our Dutch friends on here pointed out that conditioning / fitness would be a problem for him.

I've just twigged that we'll go ninth (even eighth) if we win this game, with only Liverpool still to play. Everton and Stoke are playing each other so we'd leapfrog one of them regardless of the result. Anything other than a win and we stay 12th, so time to put ourselves back in the hunt!

It's going to be tough - I think we should go for Vic & Romeu in this game.

Song / Kouyate are a couple of units we need to deal with in central midfield.

I hope Clasie can stay fit because there's been glimpses of class from him. My starting 11;

Stek

Martina

Fonte

VVD

Bertrand

Wanyama

Davis

JWP

Long

Mane

Tadic

I've not seen anything to suggest Romeu and Wanyama can play effectively together.

Think we'll be lucky to only make 1 change from Arsenal.

Romeu for Clasie, if Clasie is not fit, only change I would make unless Cedric is fit (and it would be harsh on Martina to drop him after his attacking performance yesterday). We need to bear in mind that Romeu, JWP and Fonte are all on 4 bookings, they all need to avoid a yellow tomorrow in what may be a very physical game, as Wet Spam have reverted to physicality since their injury-list inspired slump in form. Just hope that some of our players who ran themselves into the ground yesterday (Long and Davis especially) are fit to go again for 90 minutes less than hours later.

This has got draw written all over it.

Having said that, one of our best away performances last season was away to West Ham so let's hope for a repeat. But I'd be happy with a draw.

A draw with that Donkey Carroll scoring I reckon.

Anyways, team for me would be this (forced to make changes unfortunately)

Stek

Yoshida, Fonte, VVD, Bertrand

Wanyama, Romeu

Tadic, Mane, Davis

Long

3 change- however wouldn't be surprised at all if Caulker or Targett starts.

Carroll's injured and likely unavailable. They're decimated by injuries. And rhe rest of the side is looking pretty leggy (presumably Song was rested against Villa for our game). If there's a game that couldnt be better timed, it's tmrw.

They think Carroll will be back. Cresswell is out having gone off yesterday and Tomkins doubtful. Lanzini may make the bench.

Sakho, Payet, Moses, Reid all out definitely.

Think they have drawn the last 5 but haven't scored many. Certainly nowhere near as fluid as at the start of the season.

It should go when the lactic acid which caused it is oxidised - usually no more than a couple of hours

This is going to be be the hardest side to predict as we don't have the medical information and all this " red zone " stuff that clubs go on about . We really don't know whose knackered or carrying a knock that'll make playing again so quickly dodgy and put them at risk of missing more games . It's not like sat is a cup week , Ron will also have one eye on a very winnable Norwich game .

Is Shane Long capable of 2 games in 48 hours , followed by another one 5 days later . His style is to give it all and he hasn't played that much since his last lay off . If Pelles out for Norwich , I'd be tempted to rest Shane for this one and play Mane & Juanmi as a front 2 . Obviously that depends on Mane and how he feels after Sat . Tadic should come in & OR , as they should be pretty fresh , and JWP hasn't had as much game time as Davis or Big Vic so I'd be tempted to rest them with him to stay in . I'd also give Reed a run , again because of his freshness , but cant see Ron doing that . If any of the back 4 are suffering then let's get Yoshida in , I can't believe Martena can play 2 games in 48 hours after not featuring much .

It's not about picking your best 11 but a balancing act , giving you the best chance of picking up points , but limiting injuries . Remember last season when Big Vic pulled a hamstring minutes before he was going to be subbed. So I'd go with an old fashioned 4-4-2

Stek

Yoshida

Fonte

VvD

RB

OR

Reed

JWP

Tadic

Mane

Juanmi

with long coming in for Mane if Pelle will make Norwich.

Interesting quote from Shane Long I read this morning. Think Koeman had it spot on decent players lacking confidence. Hopefully the Arsenal game has given the team a big confidence boost for wham and the boys will play how we know they can.

Also sounds like Long might not be able to put in the same shift again so maybe put Juanmi in for a start?

“After the Tottenham game the gaffer said to us it wasn’t our formation which was causing us problems, it was more mental and confidence. He made it a bit more fun this week, had the lads joking and you could see the results of that on the pitch. I’ve never been so tired before in my life.”

I thought Long had a superb game and he ran the two cb's ragged. I bet he was exhausted!

Just think we will struggle with the short turnover time, less than 48 hours is ridiculous. We ran ourselves into the ground on Saturday. Having said that, West Ham are low on numbers and confidence. Think we will have to settle for a 1-1 draw.

I think many foreign players take time to adjust to the pace of the Prem. and the fact that Clasie was out of action with two months with (new) injuries, doesn't indicate he's " injury-prone ", but is certainly suffering from the lack of " a good pre-season ". As a midfileder, he's required to be " in the action " more than the average player.

Coming back from any injury doesn't mean they can pick up where they left off..as we will undoubtedly see when JayRod (eventually) returns.

I always recall Alan Shearer's famous comment.." there's a lot of difference between ....being able to play, and being... "match-fit"

Not ridiculous - they only run 6 miles or so - I used to manage playing saturday and Sunday. Ok so won't be at their peak but so what? imagine it being all sensible and being German - poor sods have no football for a month. And league is normally wrapped up by Bayern by now. But of course they will be ruthlessly efficient come France in June and England will be crp.

Think Yoshida will definitely start, especially if Carroll is fit. Could be three at the back.

Romeu in for Clasie, Tadic For JWP.

Long will be on a high from Saturday and may still start being replaced by Juamni later.

Assume Pelle not fit. I'd prefer not to start him anyway, but could happen if Long is struggling.

I recall Marsden once had no pre-season whatsoever yet was picked for the opening game and had a blinder. Don't know how long Clasie's lack of a pre-season is going to hold water to be honest. Not sure you can overcome inherent stamina issues.

I'm fairly sure that with today's sports science, you can.
