Saint Garrett Posted 20 December, 2015 Share Posted 20 December, 2015 I can't be the only one who thinks this lad can't be any worse than the current lot....at least he'll get stuck in. Thought Clasie was good yesterday, but think I'd still prefer Reed. Is there off field issues with him? Not really sure why he's not been given a chance this season, especially as Ron said about if there are two players on the same level, then the club will choose the academy player. Was fantastic in those few games he played last year.

Not really sure why he's not been given a chance this season, especially as Ron said about if there are two players on the same level, then the club will choose the academy player. Was fantastic in those few games he played last year. I was told he spent a lot of time frequenting a nightclub with his mates. Too much time. Also that the loan stories were true. Whether the nightime socialising has meant he has got into trouble with the club and therefore been dropped, who knows. It might be the other way round - that after realising Ron didn't rate him and his pathway was blocked that he's gone off the rails. Maybe a mixture of all of it. I rated him last season, wasn't he part of the team that did Everton with no Morgan or Vic? Les Reed thought he was the next great thing from the academy. By all accounts now he's gone backwards. Leicestersaint Posted 20 December, 2015 Share Posted 20 December, 2015 The treatment of Reed is mystifying - why hasn't he been given a chance to carry on from last season? Could he do worse than some of the present midfield? Why are no youngsters being brought through - does Koeman have a strategy?
ART Posted 20 December, 2015 Share Posted 20 December, 2015 The treatment of all the Academy lads is a mystery. You can't say one of them can't get some time on the pitch in every game. reed played a full 90 minutes last year against Everton where we won 90 minutes. He did a great job. And what about recalling Sam Gallagher. He's a big lad and there's more chance of him scoring than Shane Long. Jack Stephens should be recalled too sand should be on the bench and get at least 15 minutes every game. Matt Targett too needs inclusion more often............and so on. When we were 6 - 0 down to Liverpool what a great opportunity to blood a younger or two. Other teams do it, so why can we? The problem lies with Koeman who gerrymanders too much to his Dutch players and the usual failures, so that they never need to worry about being dropped. Remember when he disciplined Mane for turning up late? Following game he scored the fastest hat-trick in Premier League history. How does Pochettino manage to blood the younger players? Answer? By having one or two on the bench and giving them playtime during a match. So why can Koeman not do the same. By doing so you'll soon see the regulars up a gear or two. There are solutions and the failures lie with Koeman who won't take a chance, won't try something different. He needs to be old and pull his finger out. ally_uk Posted 20 December, 2015 Share Posted 20 December, 2015 agree with the above Koeman needs to realise that currently half of our squad are not up to this level / disinterested. ship out the dead wood and start bedding in some quality I dont think relying on youth is the anwser however they should be given a opportunity. derry Posted 20 December, 2015 Share Posted 20 December, 2015 Reed has tenacity and energy and he doesn't bottle tackles, we need that. I'm fed up with players that don't go in where it hurts.

disconnect Posted 21 December, 2015 Share Posted 21 December, 2015 Though I was impressed with Reed the few times he played last season, have watched a few u21s games this season and he hasnt really impressed, and picked up a few very needless cards. Maybe until his performances improve at that level Koeman isnt prepared to give him a chance in the first team?!
DuncanRG Posted 21 December, 2015 Share Posted 21 December, 2015 'Can't be any worse' is a really poor reason to pick a player. I like Reed and wish he had more opportunities, but we need a settled central midfield partnership. You can't chop and change in that position. For me, that partnership should be Clasie and Wanyama, though I can see the merit in giving Wanyama a boot up the arse by picking Romeu for a game or two. Bourne Valley Saint Posted 21 December, 2015 Share Posted 21 December, 2015 I'm sure that by being consistently overlooked and made to feel superfluous he is quietly becoming hacked off and this may reflect in his performances for the U21's. He did not let us down when he played last season and I for one as a paying spectator would rather see an academy player given his chance rather than some overpaid mercenary who wants to F off as soon as an agent comes calling!! Also, give Seagar a chance. He cant be worse than Pelle or Long are at the moment. Spurs gave Kane a chance and look what he did!! Whilst we're at it, bring back Stephens and Isgrove and give them some experience before its too late!!
sydenhamssocks Posted 21 December, 2015 Share Posted 21 December, 2015 Saw Harrison Reed having a real good game up at Newcastle last season, only to be subbed and not really figure that much again.. Odd, thought he looked ready to stake a claim. Only Ronald knows the answer....or does he !!

Seagar cannot compare yet, not even Sam Gallagher can. Agree with Reed though despite always being late to a challenge he was in an ideal position to get some gametime this season. This whole succession plan's not really working. You cant buy like for like because there are few players for instance like Morgan in the world, that's why he was so coveted, so you develop. I think Oriel was a contingency signing, 1) for Europe and 2) for Victor and 3) we couldn't say no when he came up for that price.

I agree with all of that Saint Garrett, but the main problem is.... that when he does " get stuck in "...he's rewarded with a plethora of yellow and red cards..... His disciplinary record is really frightening for one so young in the game......
david in sweden Posted 22 December, 2015 Share Posted 22 December, 2015 (edited) Kane spent a few seasons out on loan at a good level! Seagar cannot compare yet, not even Sam Gallagher can.. Sadly......you've hit the nail on the head exactly. Harry Kane had his first outing (aged 17) with Orient. He went onto to play for Millwall, Norwich and Leicester. In total he played 56 loan games and scored " a respectable " 14 goals . Add to this 34 games for England U17-U21 ..with a 17 goal tally he was next in line, and already back in the Spurs U21 side for Pochettino to use when he took over. All Poch. had to do.... was give him a shirt number. Likewise Ryan Mason (although older - now 24) had FIVE loan outs totalling 74 games in 5 years. He had played 23 times for the Swindon side - prior to Poch's arrival. Spurs squandered the inheritance from the sale of Gareth Bale on the biggest level of dross any Prem. side has had - with the obvious exception of Dembele and Eriksen. I would have thought that any of us - with an inkling of Spurs Youth set-up would have picked them ahead of the £ multi-million misfits Spurs had bought instead. Had Poch persisted with the " dross " and neglected these two, he would surely have been out of the door by last Christmas. As it was Kane was the man of the season. Seager and McQueen were both very promising already at 16, but both have suffered injury problems in recent seasons and had few games. Gallagher had a good season - up until the sad death of his father - followed by injury but I fail to see why someone with his obvious talent has been ignored by a poor Championship manager - whose side struggles to stay above the drop zone - in favour of "more experienced players" who quite obviously aren't DAJF them...... Red card in the U21 Cup Final last season .....? I'm was sure he got red-carded earlier this season ? I like this playing style, but with someone like Clattenburg as a ref. he wouldn't last till HT in today's type of games.
