Matthew Le God Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 Its closer to £175m but hey what's £25m to an internet pedant. That doesn't include substantial agent fees, signing on fees etc. Plus I also said "circa".
JxgrSaint Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 West Ham are apparently close to getting Lacazette in for £20m to go through in the Summer, according to their obnoxious child transfer spokesboy....

Saint Charlie Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 I think West Ham will spend a fortune in the summer, probably in the top 3 or 4 of spend.
Give it to Ron Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 I think West Ham will spend a fortune in the summer, probably in the top 3 or 4 of spend. Well as they are virtually being given a stadium with increased capacity they can afford to. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Saint Charlie Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 Well as they are virtually being given a stadium with increased capacity they can afford to. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Indeed. Plus those owners love the attention.
Saint-Fred Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 He's missed a lot of games this season to be fair. QPR have played 28 games and he has played 16 of them. He may have been rested for cup games. He's missed the equivalent of over two months of the season. 10 in 16 in the league. Lots of interest in Austin because he scores goals and even in a crap team last year he scored loads. Plus he is English and his transfer fee won't be much because of his contract running down. But then on the other hand his contract situation means he will command more in wages and couple that with his injury record there are issues for any club that wants to sign him. Plus he'll want to be first choice...hard to make someone with his injury record first choice as you're putting a lot of money into a player who may not play more than 60% of your games. I can see him going somewhere in the summer. Yes two injuries this year but I think you will find he regularily played the vast majority of league games in past seasons so not sure what the "injury record" is and why it's perceived as so bad? I am sure he usually plays a lot higher %age than you describe. No chance of us signing him though!
itchen_dan Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 Jonjo Shelvey. Make a bid I say. Has terrific passing ability IMO. Could replace Schneiderlin in that sense. Loves a tackle also. I think he'd be a solid addition to the team, not just squad. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35284347
aintforever Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 Just cannot see Saints paying anywhere near £17m in Jan, too out of character for our business model! So so quiet as well, normally there are the odd rumours at least I don't think sliding towards relegation was part of our business model though.

Plus we rarely sign players from the PL.

doddisalegend Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 Dont really see the massive fuss about Austin, I cant believe there isnt better options out there for the money ? Added to his reported injury problems. Dont get me wrong Ill be reasonably happy if he signs but I just dont get the constant clamour to bring him in 18 PL goals in the worst team in the PL last season for £8 million seems like a bargain to me considering Bournemouth are shelling out £10 million for a championship striker and we paid £12 million for Long.
UpweySaint Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 18 PL goals in the worst team in the PL last season for £8 million seems like a bargain to me considering Bournemouth are shelling out £10 million for a championship striker and we paid £12 million for Long. Out of interest earlier I had a look and Bournemouth's net spend this season (excluding the agreed fee for Iturbe) is around 38 million while ours is the grand sum of 1. 1 Million. I'm not expecting us to throw money around and would love to see our vision of a sustainable club come true with academy gems filling the team but, for now, we are in need of short term investment to maintain our league status. That is exactly what the likes of Austin are. Short term buys to meet a clear need.
Wade Garrett Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 Billy Sharp was a short term buy that worked perfectly for us.

UpweySaint Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 Billy Sharp was a short term buy that worked perfectly for us. Did the job we needed at the time, no more, no less. Think we could do with same again.
Daft Kerplunk Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 We either 'risk' a short term signing for a decent bit of money and spend to get us back up the table so we look like a decent prospect for players to join/not leave in the summer or we sleepwalk to the end of the season and run the risk of being closer to Newcastle United than Man Utd. Damage needs to be repaired after the last close season's efforts.
Saints foreva Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/charlie-austin/club-after-january-transfer-window Our odds to sign Charlie Austin have shortened in the last couple of hours for some reason. It's probably nothing but I hold out slight hope that some ITK has just put a loada money on it.
Greenridge Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/charlie-austin/club-after-january-transfer-window Our odds to sign Charlie Austin have shortened in the last couple of hours for some reason. It's probably due to many of the other clubs linked to him going on record as saying they will not be signing him!
Pancake Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 Did the job we needed at the time, no more, no less. Think we could do with same again. Not sure Billy is what we need.
pangy Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 Not sure Billy is what we need. But no doubt we will end up with the Dutch league equivalent
UpweySaint Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 Not sure Billy is what we need. Oh come now, you know I meant an equivalent, though Sharp was a class act it has to be said.
DuncanRG Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 Jonjo Shelvey. Make a bid I say. Has terrific passing ability IMO. Could replace Schneiderlin in that sense. Please don't compare Schneiderlin with Jonjo Shelvey again! (Plus what others said about his temperament)
Patrick Bateman Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 Bad temperament. At the moment, I couldn't give a f**k about that in all honesty. We already seem to have a couple of dodgy players in that department. What we need is proven Premier League quality, Shelvey and Austin would both be perfect to come in, bang some goals in and maybe help us finish top 10 again - the extra £m for higher placed finishes is worth it. You never know, they may also find their "spiritual homes" and stay forever and be perfect angels ...
danjosaint Posted 11 January, 2016 Posted 11 January, 2016 Not shelvey but id take sigurdsson all day long

Batman Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35281746 wonder if he will be any good. Been pimped about the premier league for a little while
Patrick Bateman Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 And now he has his own chef he must be in peak condition Is that true? Brilliant, I like him even more; "sorry lads, enjoy your bog standard chicken and pasta lunch, I'm having a 3 course meal in the corner on my own"
skintsaint Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 Maybe not for this window, but Pickford from Sunderland looked assured last weekend and my PNE supporting mate was raving about him when he was on loan there. Might be worth a punt if Sunderland go down with Stek leaving the club also.
saint lard Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 Swansea agree £12m fee with Newcastle for Shelvey........so we can scrub that idea. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Sour Mash Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 Papers having a laugh at the moment? Agents? http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/633776/Liverpool-boss-Jurgen-Klopp-shock-approach-England-defender-Steven-Caulker-News-Gossip
Sour Mash Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 Guess, theoretically, same reason we went for him? Not many CBs available as short term cover, that have a reasonable amount of Premier League experience.
Saint Garrett Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 Even if Swans didn't want Shelvey, If i supported them, I'd be ****ed off selling him to Newcastle who are a direct relegation rival, and he could win them a game. On his day he's a decent player, but tries the hollywood pass far too much.
warsash saint Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 Caulker going to Liverpool... :scared: Where has that one come from ??
Dig Dig Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 Klopp was impressed with him in the 6-1 rout. Maybe he wants to build the confidence of his strikers up in training.
VectisSaint Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 Papers having a laugh at the moment? Agents? http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/633776/Liverpool-boss-Jurgen-Klopp-shock-approach-England-defender-Steven-Caulker-News-Gossip They are if they think he is going there on a loan. The only way Caulker will leave is if Rangers can sell him. Its just made up nonsense. More plausible are the noises being made about him being sold to Palace or Boscombe.

positivepete Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 Klopp was impressed with him in the 6-1 rout. Maybe he wants to build the confidence of his strikers up in training. Well to be fair that was his best game for us....
Saint Charlie Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 Koeman saying we aren't closer to bringing anyone in and IF we do then it will just be one player.
VectisSaint Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 I know, it was so stupid an idea, and based on all the talk that had come out with regard to Rangers wanting to sell. Be honest, you really didn't think it was serious either.
disconnect Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 Koeman saying we aren't closer to bringing anyone in and IF we do then it will just be one player. He better be a really good player on the level of Schneiderlin / Alderweireld then, or I can see a lot of upset. If it's a bargain basement loan or £3/4/5 mil player they are really taking the mickey.

Batman Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 Koeman saying we aren't closer to bringing anyone in and IF we do then it will just be one player. something is not right somewhere then. RK clearly wants a new player. He has been pretty open about it.
doddisalegend Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 Why exactly ? yeah I thought everyone wanted to pack the squad out with academy boys who can't do any worse than the 1st team (apparently) if we get anyone in we are just blocking the pathway....
Batman Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 They are if they think he is going there on a loan. The only way Caulker will leave is if Rangers can sell him. Its just made up nonsense. More plausible are the noises being made about him being sold to Palace or Boscombe. that went well
doddisalegend Posted 12 January, 2016 Posted 12 January, 2016 something is not right somewhere then. RK clearly wants a new player. He has been pretty open about it. on the other hand we never really bring in anyone in Jan so it could just be business as usual....
