Whitey Grandad Posted 7 December, 2015 Posted 7 December, 2015 A point will be a much needed boost towards the magic 40 points. But we can only dream. If we can keep hold of Fonte, Yoshida, Long and S.Davis next season we should be able to mount a semi-serious push the playoffs. So you think we're odds-on for relegation then?
eurosaint Posted 7 December, 2015 Posted 7 December, 2015 Long for pelle. Pelle too static, moans too much, doesn't get stuck in, at least long puts in effort and has bite Whatever his shortcomings, I cannot agree with that, as he always works his arse off ! All IMHO of course !
Saint Fan CaM Posted 7 December, 2015 Posted 7 December, 2015 We will lose this 2-0. Palace are a well oiled outfit now - Pardue has done a great job and we're on the slide.
Baird of the land Posted 7 December, 2015 Posted 7 December, 2015 Hopefully lineup will be Stek Soares Fonte Van Dijk Bertrand Clasie Romeu Davis Mane Tadic Pelle Vic doesn't deserve to start on basis of last couple of performances.
waylander Posted 7 December, 2015 Posted 7 December, 2015 Hopefully lineup will be Stek Soares Fonte Van Dijk Bertrand Clasie Romeu Davis Mane Tadic Pelle Vic doesn't deserve to start on basis of last couple of performances. Vic may not be fit anyway. Doesn't have an ankle problem?
LA77 Posted 7 December, 2015 Posted 7 December, 2015 I have 2 tickets for sale. Face value, if anyone is interested.
ericofarabia Posted 8 December, 2015 Posted 8 December, 2015 I have 2 tickets for sale. Face value, if anyone is interested. Ha Ha .... Good Luck with that, judging by the doom and gloom on here!!
Tommog Posted 8 December, 2015 Posted 8 December, 2015 A lot of talk about Long on here. Lets face it, he is pretty sh*te i know Pelle is off form and his constant moaning annoys me but he is still the best we've got. Longs got a place mind, coming on for last 15 minutes to run hopefully down a decent channel hes a half decent sub to have. I think the Black Box was trolling us though for what we paid for him
sadoldgit Posted 8 December, 2015 Posted 8 December, 2015 Long for pelle. Pelle too static, moans too much, doesn't get stuck in, at least long puts in effort and has bite For someone who doesn't get stuck in Pelle seems to get more than his fair share of yellow cards?
The9 Posted 8 December, 2015 Posted 8 December, 2015 For someone who doesn't get stuck in Pelle seems to get more than his fair share of yellow cards? Hm, dissent and kicking the ball away get you yellows too you know.
sadoldgit Posted 8 December, 2015 Posted 8 December, 2015 Hm, dissent and kicking the ball away get you yellows too you know. That's just showing passion though!
The9 Posted 8 December, 2015 Posted 8 December, 2015 That's just showing passion though! If you're a f'cking idiot, yes. On an unrelated note, 5 of my 6 cards in my playing "career" were for dissent (although 4 of them were from the same ref).

The9 Posted 8 December, 2015 Posted 8 December, 2015 (edited) In the same game??? Unfortunately not. 4 separate matches. He retired this season aged EIGHTY-F'CKING FOUR, and I can assure you he lost the plot in the last Millennium: http://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/12979136.Newport_referee__84__blows_whistle_on_career_after_nearly_40_years/?ref=mr&lp=15 Also once sent a team-mate of mine off, having first booked him for taking a free-kick too quickly. The9 Posted 8 December, 2015 Posted 8 December, 2015 "That's so unfair, Dad." My dad actually reffed the Sunday team I was running once, and disallowed a perfectly good goal that went through a hole in the net. I got revenge by picking him to play for us two weeks running when he was aged 42 - I didn't realise that actually was revenge until I tried playing in my 40s.
captainchris Posted 8 December, 2015 Posted 8 December, 2015 drop JWP, Pelle, & Tadic bring on clasie, juanmi & long Not sure where you have been this season but Clasie is clearly not good enough...
Saint Fan CaM Posted 9 December, 2015 Posted 9 December, 2015 0-2 to Palace - they're growing in confidence under Pardew. And we're not under Koeman for some reason.
The9 Posted 9 December, 2015 Posted 9 December, 2015 Not sure where you have been this season but Clasie is clearly not good enough... So far I've seen him showing decent spells on the ball, and probably not enough defensively. Way too soon to suggest "clearly" anything, he's at least as good and suited to the role as Ward-Prowse.

Way too soon to suggest "clearly" anything, he's at least as good and suited to the role as Ward-Prowse. The problem is, that is debatable so why did we buy him? JWP should perhaps be stuck out on the wide right again which is the only position he has shone in this year. Niether him or Clasie will take us far in a central role.. It's not as though we bought Clasie as 'one for the future' how long do we wait for him to get up to speed? To be honest being that small you have to be outstanding and very strong to survive in this league and I'm really not convinced he is.

Clasie has nearly played ten games, nearly, so yeah, let's fu ck him off now as a bad job.
hasper57saint Posted 10 December, 2015 Posted 10 December, 2015 I think we expect our players to perform brilliantly at SMS week after week when we all know that sometimes we go off the boil and flap about.Had luck been with us against Villa we could have had six before half time.Away against Palace on Saturday we can be at our best and still draw. It should be a good tactical game. COYS

Are you completely forgetting that he got injured in pre-season and spent a long time out of the first team before he even had a chance to establish himself? Even the most talented players will struggle to make an immediate impact in that situation, so I think Clasie deserves a little more time to prove himself before we pass any kind of judgement on him, don't you? Leicestersaint Posted 10 December, 2015 Posted 10 December, 2015 I have low expectations about the Palace game - and Spurs as well. We are not playing very well and having difficulty scoring.
Saint86 Posted 10 December, 2015 Posted 10 December, 2015 One thing...Long isn't the answer to anything. It has already been shown that Long is more effective than Tadic... Please keep up. Away from home we need fast, mobile and attacking players. That is Mane, Long and Juanmi. We are not going there to dominate possession as palace will rip us several new ones on the counter. RoKo would never gamble on that however.
igsey Posted 10 December, 2015 Posted 10 December, 2015 No changes in the squad for this week - Fonte still out then.
Depressed of Shirley Posted 10 December, 2015 Posted 10 December, 2015 No changes in the squad for this week - Fonte still out then. Or still in seeing as he played last week.
Saint Charlie Posted 10 December, 2015 Posted 10 December, 2015 It has already been shown that Long is more effective than Tadic... Please keep up. Jesus wept [emoji38]
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 10 December, 2015 Posted 10 December, 2015 I'd have Mane in the number 10 role. Maybe Long on the right with Tadic Left. Wanyama and one of Romeu or Clasie at DM.
Saint Charlie Posted 10 December, 2015 Posted 10 December, 2015 If Long starts it has to be up front instead of Pelle because he is largely poor out wide, especially away from home. He is a striker and doesn't have the technique to play what is effectively a midfield role. He was also pathetic at tracking Pieters in the Stoke home game - runs well forward but not back.
igsey Posted 10 December, 2015 Posted 10 December, 2015 Or still in seeing as he played last week. Or that! I stopped remembering last week happened after Villa scored.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 11 December, 2015 Posted 11 December, 2015 I'd have Mane in the number 10 role. Maybe Long on the right with Tadic Left. Wanyama and one of Romeu or Clasie at DM. I have to agree with this - it's time to be brave and start dictating the play rather than be dictated to. Palace will press hard though and if we try to play through midfield I suspect we will be found out. There is little confidence in the team at the moment.
niceandfriendly Posted 11 December, 2015 Posted 11 December, 2015 (edited) So you think we're odds-on for relegation then? Oh, I don't think that can be denied by anyone. No one would seriously suggest anything otherwise given the way we're playing. When in free-fall it's impossible to get a result at places like Palace. 4-1 but we'll take the lead through Sadio Mane. niceandfriendly Posted 11 December, 2015 Posted 11 December, 2015 (edited) Not sure where you have been this season but Clasie is clearly not good enough... He hasn't set the world alight (yet) but in comparison to JWP, Clasie is Paul Scholes on steriods. I think the more prevalent point being made in brianu's post was just get JWP as far away from the first team as physically possible, which is a given and didn't really need saying anyway. Just think how some of the top players in our side must feel when looking around the dressing room and seeing him there. Sadio, Van Dyke, Tadic, Pelle etc. Must be so demoralising and insulting too. He needs to improve a few areas of his game, but he's a good set piece taker, has a very good cross on him, he's only 21 so he will improve.
Shance Posted 11 December, 2015 Posted 11 December, 2015 I don't think we'll get anything from this. Palace like their wingers and they have two very effective ones. Cedric or Yoshida will get destroyed on our right hand side. This will be Palace's main tactic imo. Win the ball in midfield and knock it wide where one of bolasie or zaha will cause us big problems.

To be honest being that small you have to be outstanding and very strong to survive in this league and I'm really not convinced he is. We bought him because we're not short-sighted enough to think you can buy the finished article for what we paid for him and have a history of developing players and selling them at a big profit. As far as I'm concerned he's about as good as I was expecting, with the 2 month setback for injury factored in. Mane hadn't done much after 10 matches either.

The only difference I've seen so far is that Clasie's forward passing is more impactful and Ward-Prowse takes better corners.
svetigpung Posted 11 December, 2015 Posted 11 December, 2015 they're more confident away from home and away from the groaning st marys crowd. I would stay not. Against Villa last week i thought the atmosphere was quite good thoughout the game, even though we were loosing and our finishing was pants. Thought most the crowd actually got behind the team. From where i was sittning anyway.
