Saint Charlie Posted 28 November, 2015 Share Posted 28 November, 2015 Sister thread to the other one, name the seven worst permanent Saints Managers in your lifetime (there should be a fair few to select from). 1. Wigley 2. Branfoot 3. Sturrock 4. Redknapp 5. Gray 6. Burley 7. Wotte

ericofarabia Posted 28 November, 2015 Share Posted 28 November, 2015 Can't look beyond Redkrap and Branfart Wigley, Gray, The Dutch Duo and Sturrock were, way out of their league, picked by The Board as Cheap Options. Can't blame them for grabbing the opportunity. Branfart could be included as well, but his totally alien style of football and treatment of MLT was unforgivable. # 1 on my sh!t list is Bagpuss. From day 1 he was never interested in the job. I remember his 1st comments were along the lines of "How the hell am I supposed to keep this lot up, I need at least 5 new faces" So much for the self professed Master of Man Management. WAC. At the same time Bryan Robson took over a seemingly doomed WBA who really were up sh!t creek without a paddle, but he praised the battling spirit and ability of his team and had faith in them ..... guess what ... they stayed up. mrfahaji Posted 28 November, 2015 Share Posted 28 November, 2015 I wouldn't add any other names to the ones listed already, but I'm surprised Gray isn't a bit higher. I thought he was shocking. Perhaps the Le Tissier last game at the Dell substitution rescues him a bit? I suppose it was a decision which led to the best moment of my life, so I shouldn't begrudge him that! Saint Charlie Posted 28 November, 2015 Author Share Posted 28 November, 2015 Burley really was a miserable ****er. Wasted some good talent too. Classic case of playing safe appointing someone like that rather than an upcoming Manager like Adkins was when we chose him.
Sydenhampton Posted 28 November, 2015 Share Posted 28 November, 2015 1 - Ian Branfoot. Yes he took us to Wembley but the football was turgid. I can remember holding up that bit of paper with "GO" written on it back in the 90's. Absolute tool. 2 - Jan Poortvliet. Terrible, terrible manager. Just didn't seem to care. Give him a bit of paper with "PTO" written on both sides and you'd amuse him for hours. 3 - Steve Wigley. Bad, bad idea to appoint him. OK so we beat the charity thieves during his time but it's him that got us relegated, not Old SaggyChops. Lord Duckhunter at his best. 4 - Paul Sturrock. Should have ignored the bright lights and stayed at Plymouth, way out of his depth here. Lost the players from day one and couldn't stay off the sauce (allegedly). 5 - Stuart Gray. Tactically inept, a dice-roller. I remember being at Upton Park for the media-billed "sack race" match between him & Roeder! Of course we lost. 6 - Mark Wotte. I'm going to be nice about Wotte. He took one hell of a poisoned chalice with the club in meltdown and tried, really gave it his best. Sadly that wasn't good enough and down we went. 7 - Old SaggyChops. Horrible human being & not a good a manager as the media would think. Can only perform when given silly money to spend. Threw away too many games in the last few minutes. Saint Charlie Posted 28 November, 2015 Author Share Posted 28 November, 2015 He was sacked by the master of madness Lowe. He shouldn't have been appointed in the first place. He was never in a million years cut out for the PL. Ultimately it led to us being relegated because it quickly became apparent all hell would have broken loose had he stayed. And then we ended up with Wigley. And Redknapp.

Palace and Norwich away and west brom at home were crucial.

Saints Fan Dan Posted 28 November, 2015 Share Posted 28 November, 2015 2 - Jan Poortvliet. Terrible, terrible manager. Just didn't seem to care. Give him a bit of paper with "PTO" written on both sides and you'd amuse him for hours. I think Poortvliet did care, he was just extremely out of his depth. The cheapest of cheap options. He paid his own compensation to get the Saints job. I remember him sarcasticly applauding the referee for sending off Matt Paterson for nearly decapitating Nemanja Vidic in FA Cup. Lord Duckhunter Posted 29 November, 2015 Share Posted 29 November, 2015 There can be only one winner of the award of worst manager , Ian Branfoot. Look at the way we played before him & then after him, with similar resources . He had Alan Shearer one season and was still shiete . Jimmy Case , Matt Le Tiss , the bloke was ****ing clueless. Second worst Redknapp , that team should never have gone down. WBA were shocking & Robson a crap manager, yet they stayed up. Chucking away 2 or 3 winning positions and then the bottling of the skate game particular low points. Third , Wotte. Was involved with Jan P from day one . Whereas Jan seemed a genuinely decent guy , Wotte was a arrogant chump . One bloke I never really took to was Dave Jones but his record keeps him out of my bottom 3 . Kingsland Red Posted 29 November, 2015 Share Posted 29 November, 2015 1. Poortvielt - bizarre appointment, way out of his depth 2, Branfoot - desperate football 3. Redknapp - disinterested, lazy, Davenport , Olivier Bernard, his 'good for 20 minutes' son staying on beyond 20 minutes 4. Bassett / Wise - caretakers , not good enough 5. Gray - very poor results 6. Wigley - useless as a man manager 7. Wotte - Always seemed a bit of a back stabber, although may have been under the control of the Duck Hunter

Dark Munster Posted 29 November, 2015 Share Posted 29 November, 2015 Top two by a mile, Saggy and Br*nf**t. Both were appallingly bad, and on top of that utter ****s. 1. Saggy wins it, for getting us relegated and not giving a toss, blaming the players almost from day one, and then crawling back to the skates after "mission accomplished". ****ing bastard. 2. Br*nf**t was also a disaster, but didn't get us relegated and actually won 5 in a row (God knows how). 3. Wigley 4. Poortvliet 5. Gray 6. Wotte All drooling incompetent disasters. No better than Br*nf**t, but not as obnoxious. 7. Souness One or two good performances in between mostly dross. Miraculously didn't relegate us. Dark Munster Posted 29 November, 2015 Share Posted 29 November, 2015 (edited) He shouldn't have been appointed in the first place. He was never in a million years cut out for the PL. Ultimately it led to us being relegated because it quickly became apparent all hell would have broken loose had he stayed. And then we ended up with Wigley. And Redknapp. Disagree completely. Luggy was a decent if unspectacular manager for us. And it wasn't his fault that the ruddy cheeked bastard replaced him with that walking disaster Wigley. One would have thought that Lowe would have learnt from his Gray fiasco. Edited 29 November, 2015 by Dark Munster
